About us

Women and Girls Network (WGN) was established in 1987 and has spent over 30 years supporting women and girls across London affected by gendered violence. This includes childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape, prostitution (including trafficking and sexual exploitation), female genital mutilation (FGM), and so-called ‘honour’ based crimes such as forced marriage.

Our goal is to promote, preserve, and restore the mental health and wellbeing of women and girls, to empower them to make a total and sustainable recovery from the experiences of violence. VAWG crimes, which include domestic abuse, rape, sexual assault, stalking, and harassment, accounted for 20% of total police recorded crime in England and Wales between 2022 and 2023.

About the role

We are excited to be advertising this newly created role as part of WGN’s recent growth. Reporting into the Financial Controller, the Finance Business Partner works closely with stakeholders across the organisation, including Executive Leadership, with a specific focus on working closely with the project leads for all our funded services. Although the organisation is well established, this is a growing sector, and the organisation has gone through rapid change over the past few years and is therefore offering the right candidate a great opportunity to deliver change and make a real difference to WGN’s staff and clients.

About you

If you are someone who thrives on supporting service teams in ensuring their budgets are on track, enjoys liaising with funders, including reporting, wants exposure and wants to make a real difference, this could be the role for you!

The ideal candidate will have experience in working within the charity sector in a similar role, a commitment to WGN’s goals is key requirement, as well as a proactive and collaborative working approach. It is essential that the candidate has strong relationships management skills as well as a passion for financial analysis and reporting.

New Horizon Youth Centre has been commissioned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) as part of an Alliance with Safer London, St Giles Trust and the Anna Freud Centre to deliver on their Children and Young People’s Violence and Exploitation and Reduction support service. The commission will run from June 2024 for three years. As part of this, an additional service will be set up within the NHYC Youth Justice team specifically to deliver on the Alliance contract. This will include a team of Housing Caseworkers who will carry out assessments and advocacy work with young people under 25 who are fleeing violence and exploitation, in order to move them on successfully into both emergency and long-term housing options. You should be passionate about working with this client group, able to manage a fast-moving caseload, and committed to working collaboratively with a team across multiple services.

These young people have often survived very difficult experiences and have often experienced high levels of violence in their lives. This can mean at times we have to work harder to secure their trust and build relationships with them. The experiences these young people have had in their lives means they can feel frustrated, angry, and upset. We need someone committed to showing care, respect, patience and understanding, someone who understands that challenging behaviour can be a demonstration of the impact of multiple traumas. This is a fixed-term role for 12 months

Role Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

• Casework Support: Provide comprehensive casework support to NPFB service users, assisting with welfare benefit claims (PIP, ESA, Universal Credit) and addressing independent reviews.
• Debt Support: Offer basic debt advice, focusing on priority debts, applying for Local Housing Allowance, and facilitating referrals to specialists for complex cases.
• Financial Capability: Help clients create realistic budgets and develop essential financial skills to foster independence.
• Income Maximization: Deliver tailored advice to maximize household income through benefit checks, applications, and challenges to ensure clients receive their rightful support.
• Outreach Coordination: Manage outreach clinics and community events, collaborating with partners to enhance service delivery.
• Client Engagement: Provide advice across various settings, including the NPFB office, community outreach, and digital platforms.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate case records and ensure timely completion of funding reports and evaluations.
• Training: Stay updated on welfare legislation and provide training sessions for staff and volunteers on welfare rights issues.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in delivering social welfare advice. 
• Ability to empower clients facing welfare benefits and debt challenges through empathetic support.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage challenging situations effectively.
• Proficient in managing a caseload and meeting deadlines to ensure timely client support.

• delivering meaningful engagement with residents, empowering them to develop their own networks and co-design projects and programmes which support them effectively 

• managing a local grants programme which pilots and develops effective responses to community needs 

• co-producing and developing our Community Weeks programme as a platform for community support and engagement 

• gathering feedback and carrying out evaluation of our projects and of those we fund.
