This is a unique and exciting role for someone with a keen eye for a story to turn vital policy and scientific thinking into eye-catching campaigning. You will be playing a big part in a small organisation while also delivering invaluable collaborative work on behalf of our huge network of 86 members. You will be working with household names like the RSPB, Butterfly Conservation and the National Trust, as well as a range of dynamic nature and animal welfare charities large and small.

Great campaigning and events experience, sharp writing skills, and excellent communication are more important than having worked in the sector before. A brand-new role to Rape Crisis South London, we are looking to appoint a Monitoring Impact Evaluation and Learning (MIEL) Lead as part of our change and transformation journey. 

The successful MIEL Lead will be an individual who champions data-driven decision making and ensures our work creates meaningful impact. As a standalone role, the MIEL Lead will work with various internal leads and external stakeholders. Examples of what the MIEL Lead will be doing include designing and presenting programme evaluations and outcome monitoring tools (using analytical tools such as Power BI and Excel) and processes. 

Prior experience within a similar role is required as the MIEL Lead will be part of our newly formed Fundraising and Communications Team. With strong organisational and analytical skills, the MIEL Lead will work closely with colleagues to provide data insights to inform funding reports and future funding strategies. What we’re looking for in our Core Humanitarian Standard Co-ordinator include:

• Ideally degree-educated with a Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Social Sciences or a related field
• Minimum of three years in humanitarian or development settings with a focus on quality, accountability and standards
• Extensive knowledge and understanding on CHS
• Experience of applying CHS, Sphere Standards and other humanitarian quality and accountability frameworks
• Possess strong project management and coordination skills to steer work from start to finish
• An experienced communicator able to converse with multiple teams and at different levels
• Proficient in data collection, monitoring and evaluation
• Competent and literate with IT applications

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

Family Support Lead

As Family Liaison Officer, a big part of your role will be providing tailored support, information and advice to families from diagnosis onwards.  This will include:

o Responding to enquiries from families

o Assessing support needs and signposting to external services as appropriate

o Providing follow-up remote support where required

o Providing face-to-face support at occasional clinics (normally based in London)

o Designing and maintaining support processes and systems

o Monitoring engagement and using insight gained to make recommendations for service improvement

Emotional Wellbeing Lead

As our lead emotional wellbeing practitioner, you will assist in the design and delivery of several of our projects and events.  These will include:

o Providing support and facilitating daily group sessions with young people aged 11-25 at our annual USHthis! summer camp (in 2025, the camp will take place from Friday 25th July - Friday 1st August and you will need to be available for these dates)

o Help to deliver our one-day events in the spring and autumn

o Co-create the Empowerment Programme for 17-25 year olds with Usher syndrome.  This is a pilot programme that aims to support our young adults in developing self-advocacy and identity alongside mentoring through the key milestones in young adult life

o Facilitate 1:1 and group sessions on the Empowerment Programme

o Facilitate monthly virtual USHchats for parents and carers (these take place one evening a month)

Across all aspects of the role, you will need to ensure the safeguarding of and promote the welfare of children and adults at risk who are engaging with Usher Kids UK.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Experience and Knowledge:

o Over 2 years’ experience of providing emotional wellbeing support to:

- children and adolescents

- parents/carers and family members

o Experience of supporting families with additional needs

o Experience of supporting families with sensory or dual sensory needs (desirable)

o Experience of family support case management

o Experience of facilitating 1:1 and group sessions

o Minimum of Level 3 qualification in a relevant field (e.g. youth work, health, social care, education)

Background

The Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law is part of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL), a leading independent institute based in London.The Bingham Centre’s focus area on Citizenship and the Rule of Law recognises that public understanding of the rule of law is vital to protecting and strengthening it. There needs to be a concerted effort to engage with the general public and particularly young people, who are likely to benefit tremendously from learning about the role of law and legal institutions in securing their rights and enabling fair and equal participation in civic life.

Through our activities in the field of Citizenship and the Rule of Law, which began in 2014, we have pursued this goal in several ways:

• Developing materials for UK citizenship education: our award-winning classroom resource series, The Rule of Law for Citizenship Education, has reached more than 30,000 school students in 400 schools.
• Participating in discussions on legal education and citizenship in a variety of settings, from conferences in the legal and teaching professions to meetings of the Solicitor General's Public Legal Education Committee under the previous government. Following the 2024 general election, the government has signalled a strong interest in public promotion of the rule of law, and this was one of the themes of the Attorney General’s 2024 Bingham Lecture.
• Producing video and digital materials and undertaking online teaching. The Bingham Centre developed a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) on Citizenship and the Rule of Law for the University of London. The MOOC and other online resources may be found on our Rule of Law Digital Hub.
• Co-ordinating interactive school workshops, run by volunteers: we launched an innovative Public and Youth Engagement Programme, funded by the Sybil Shine Memorial Trust. The Programme has recruited volunteers who have run interactive workshops in UK schools on issues selected by the school students themselves.  

The Role

We are looking to appoint a strong candidate as Senior Fellow to lead our focus area on Citizenship and the Rule of Law, for a fixed period until 31 August 2026, with the possibility of extension if further funding is secured.  

The Senior Fellow will be expected to undertake the following duties, working in conjunction with a Researcher from within the Bingham Centre team, and volunteers undertaking pro bono activities:

• Manage the Public and Youth Engagement Programme; 
• Engage with school and other institutions about Bingham Centre resources and programmes; 
• Maintain, develop and deepen relationships with stakeholders in the citizenship and public legal education fields;
• Plan and initiate new projects, and contribute to the development of projects by other colleagues.

Person Specification

The successful applicant will demonstrate the following mix of experience, skills and attributes:

Experience

• Working with young people or disadvantaged communities;
• Teaching, campaign work or legal practice (experience in any one of these areas is essential, and a combination may be an advantage);
• Managing projects, including liaising with multiple partners and civil society stakeholders; experience of monitoring and evaluation of projects would be an advantage.

Knowledge 

• A degree in law, politics or a related field; for non-law graduates, demonstrable knowledge of the rule of law;

The Job

The Communications Officer will play a critical role in GISF’s Communications team, working closely with the Communications Lead. The Communications team supports the work of all other teams across GISF, including Research, Membership & Events, Policy & Advocacy, and more.

The Communications Officer will work on a wide array of communications outputs, including social media, e-newsletters, the GISF website, printed brochures, branded materials, the GISF podcast, and more. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on a diverse range of communications products, using different software tools, and consulting with a variety of external contractors, such as web developers and printers. Being proactive and adaptable are key skills for this role.

Job Description

The Communications Officer will be responsible for creating content across a wide range of Communications platforms. Some of the core duties of the role include:

• Organising GISF’s social media posting on LinkedIn and X (Twitter). This includes writing text for social media posts, designing graphics using Canva, and scheduling posts using Agorapulse. The Communications Officer is also expected to follow social media and sectoral trends to identify opportunities for engagement.
• Maintaining and updating GISF website content. This includes uploading new resources and publications; ensuring the vacancies, events and training sections of the website are regularly updated; and acting as a contact point with GISF’s external web development support team, to introduce new elements to the website and resolve issues when they arise. The Communications Officer also collects monthly website data using Google Analytics.
• Writing and designing GISF’s fortnightly newsletter. The newsletter is designed and sent using Mailerlite, with graphics created on Canva. The Communications Officer is expected to proactively suggest content for the newsletter and make sure it reflects the latest news from GISF, as well as the wider sector of NGO security risk management.
• Designing printed materials. These can include flyers, brochures, display banners, and more for GISF events and external events. The Communications Officer is expected to ensure promotional materials are designed, printed and delivered in a timely manner to maximise engagement with attendees at events.
• Supporting in the dissemination of new GISF publications and products. The Communications Officer is expected to take a proactive approach in reaching out to external contacts to promote GISF’s latest content. The Communications Officer should develop a dissemination plan for each new product, encompassing external outreach, member engagement, social media promotion, and more.
• Supporting with the creation and dissemination of GISF’s podcast. This includes attending planning meetings to develop new episode ideas; assisting with recordings; liaising with external audio editors; uploading episodes to Spotify and YouTube; and promoting the podcast though social media, newsletters, and more.

Strategic support

The GISF Communications team consists of two people, and GISF has a staff workforce of around 20. Therefore, the Communications Officer is expected to play an active role in the team, contributing new ideas to both the Communications team and the wider organisation. This includes:

• Contributing to the development of GISF communication plans. The Communications Officer is expected to bring a clear plan of the communications schedule to regular meetings. They will think creatively and suggest new ideas including ways to grow GISF’s audiences, implementing plans for promoting specific GISF publications, and more.
• Identifying possible allies for GISF communications. This might include other NGOs, journalists, think tanks, or universities that cover similar areas of interest to GISF and can promote GISF content or collaborate on podcasts, blogs, events or webinars. The Communications Officer is expected to proactively identify and reach out to such individuals and organisations and connect with them on specific projects.
• Interpreting GISF’s analytics data to inform better strategies. The Communications Officer is responsible for gathering data for GISF’s monthly reporting, including analytics from GISF’s website, social media and e-newsletter. The Communications Officer is expected to note trends and suggest improvements.

This role is part of the Wiltshire Project which provides individual and family support to domestic abuse victims and their children. It is a fixed term role until November 2025.

The Resettlement Team focuses on delivering timely and high quality, trauma informed support to victims of domestic abuse and their families.

The post holder will support victims experiencing domestic abuse to access safe accommodation and those resettling in Wiltshire following fleeing domestic abuse, make long term positive and sustainable changes in their lives and to recover from the harm of domestic abuse. To do this you will work sensitively with service users to support them in making the changes to live free from harm, ensuring they feel safe, secure and supported.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about preventing domestic abuse and supporting survivors to live free from abuse.

This role will be based in Trowbridge, with a requirement to travel across Wiltshire. FearFree supports staff to work flexibly, with an ability to work in a hybrid fashion, both at home and in the office.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• To provide a high quality support service to victims experiencing domestic abuse, giving practical and emotional support.
• Provide support to service users and their families when living in safe accommodation and resettlement support when moving on from refuge accommodation and in the wider community.
• Manage a caseload of assessed service users through telephone and face to face support, to enable them to increase their safety and make positive choices for the future.
• Prepare and deliver educational, time bound sessions on a one-to-one basis with service users around domestic abuse including, but not exclusive to, safety, power and control, barriers to leaving, boundaries, impact on children, moving on and red flags.
• Complete an initial assessment of individuals’ and families’ needs to identify and plan the support needed to address issues and prevent any problems from escalating.
• Referring service users to the various groups within Wiltshire, such as Empowering You, Rediscovering You and Connecting You.
• Supporting service users who are moving on from refuge, providing advice information and support to victims, including around further safe accommodation and independent living, as required.
• Improve parents’ understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on their child and work with the parent to provide continued support to their child.
• Empower service users to make informed decisions about various aspects of their lives through discussions about options available to them as survivors of domestic abuse.
• Plan and implement activities to promote self-awareness, confidence and participation for service users.
• Ensure support provided is accessible to service users in terms of local and times.
• Give priority to service users who have had to move due to domestic abuse.
• Undertake regular caseload review meetings with individuals and families during home and community visits to ensure they are fully supporting to progress and achieve desired outcomes.
• Undertake risk assessments and implementing robust safety management plans, with due regard to the dynamic nature of risk.
• Ensure personal safety and that of service users and other staff at all times.
• Respond to emergencies and crises, including access to places of safety.
• Work closely with multi-agency partners and the wider Phoenix team to ensure that we maintain a focus on risk management and safeguarding.
• Develop and establish positive partnerships with Wiltshire’s housing organisations and services to ensure holistic and joined up service delivery.
• Assist service users in attending housing, legal and other appointments where necessary.
• Enable service users to participate in the design, delivery and evaluation of services.
• Utilise evaluation and monitoring systems to ensure high standards of service are consistently achieved.

Groups and Activities

• Focus on assisting clients and their families to reduce social isolation by connecting them to local community facilities, activities and groups.
• Assist with recruiting clients to be involved in the development of groups or activities or groups, providing them with on-going support.

General

• Work at all times in accordance with the requirements of the Lone Working Policy and Procedure.
• Attend and contribute to team meetings.
• Update written and computerised records with accurate and clear information.
• Contribute to effective team working with a flexible and pro-active approach, including cover for other team members’ holidays and sickness.
• Undertake agreed training and keep updated on changes in legislation, policy and best practice.
• Act as duty officer for Wiltshire, responding to incoming calls, logging referrals and making assigned outgoing calls, according to the duty rota. Duty shifts will be 9.00am to 5.00pm in the Trowbridge office.

About The Role

As Grants Fundraiser you will manage a wide funder portfolio of charitable trust, statutory and Lottery grant partners, with a combined value in excess of £1M and supporting a range of high-impact and innovative UK and international programmes.

The Grants Team make a major contribution to raising critical funding for high-impact and innovative conservation, education and community-focussed programmes in the UK and internationally, raising in excess of £3M p/a. This is an exciting opportunity to maximise the potential of key relationships with a range of grant funders. The successful candidate will help influence the development of key projects to ensure projects are aligned with strategy and create compelling funding proposals.

The role is a permanent full time position, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role is based at our Slimbridge office and suitable for hybrid working, with around one to two days a week required in the office. Occasional travel will be required to sites or funder meetings, so a driver's licence is desirable.

You’ll play a vital role in bringing to life 38 Degrees’ media and public affairs strategy, in service of 38 Degrees’ mission: to make our country fairer, more respectful and sustainable.  As we adjust to a shift in our political environment, this brand new role will relentlessly and powerfully amplify 38 Degrees campaigns and the voices of our supporters to the general public, the media and decision makers in the UK.

Working alongside the Public Affairs & Media Manager, and with colleagues across the campaigns team and beyond you’ll spend every day trying to shine a light on the actions our supporters take on campaigns they care about. From monitoring what’s going on in Parliament – and when it’s the perfect moment for the 38 Degrees community to use our collective voices – to being able to put together media packages that are irresistible to journalists, you’ll know how to skillfully use the public affairs and media tools at our disposal to win campaigns, raise our profile and build our reputation.

Your background and experience

You’ll have a proven track record of great political and news judgement, and have played a key role in using these skills in a campaigning environment to deliver powerful campaigns that deliver impactful media and public affairs results. That could be from working in a press office or media environment, to working with (or for) a politician.
