The role:
The Head of Communications leads the Earlham Institute’s communications and public engagement activity by developing and delivering effective communication and marketing strategies, aligned to the organisations priorities, research programmes and technical platforms. You will have overall responsibility for coordinating and measuring the impact of activity across media relations, public engagement, internal communications, brand, multimedia, digital, and social media.
As the most senior communications professional, you will have a history of successfully delivering impactful communications strategies with measurable outcomes in an academic, public sector, or third sector organisation. At Earlham Institute you will implement multi-channel approaches and manage a busy multidisciplinary team to help build the Institute’s reputation as a leader in genomics and computational science. From our social media accounts and news stories to the physical building itself, you will develop and promote a clear, coherent, and consistent brand that is recognised, locally, nationally, and internationally. You will be expected to model the organisational values, research culture and be able to clearly explain our vision and mission, and support others to find their own ways of doing the same.
The ideal candidate:
The successful candidate must be educated to degree level in a relevant subject to the Head of Communications role at the Institute, it is desirable if the post holder is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and/or Institute of Public Relations.
It is an essential requirement that the post holder has knowledge of the academic or research environment, along with knowledge in marketing approaches for a range of key stakeholders. It is advantageous if the candidate understands research funding and reporting, but not essential as full training will be provided.

Role description
We are looking for two self-motivated individuals to lead our programme delivery. OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
The Hospital IDVA (HIDVA) will be part of our dynamic, responsive and highly regarded HIDVA team, providing excellent trauma informed support, crisis intervention, advocacy and advice to survivors in hospitals and health settings, both patients and staff Impacted by domestic abuse.
The HIDVA will also provide advice and training to hospital staff and ensure robust referral pathways are established within the different departments.
We offer an out of hours phone service (Friday evenings and weekend days) together with on-site cover within the hospitals during important events where domestic abuse has been shown to increase, such as Christmas, Bank Holidays, Valentine’s Day and Football Tournaments. The post holder will be expected to participate in the out of hours rota, TOIL and flexible working to recompense for this, as well as overtime for bank holidays/ special events if required on site.
The HIDVA will be based in the Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford, and will be expected to visit other hospitals across the trust from time to time to attend meetings, deliver training and cover other team members. There is also flexibility to work from the Rising Sun main office in Canterbury to attend team meetings, supervision and training.
We are looking for someone with an excellent understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on women and children, who is experienced in supporting survivors with varying needs such as, drugs/alcohol, mental health, homelessness and patients with no recourse to public funds. Experience with Elderly People, Dementia Sufferers and their Carers or knowledge of midwifery would be desirable, although not essential.
You will report to the HIDVA Manager and receive training and an induction into both the hospital work and Rising Sun’s wider services. If unqualified, we will support you to complete a formal domestic abuse qualification.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support to Survivors
- Be present in the hospitals daily to respond to referrals or requests for domestic abuse advice and to meet with survivors.
- Ensure that survivors are aware of their rights and options and explain the effectiveness of criminal and civil sanctions available to them.
- Produce safety plans with the client, enabling them to assess and manage their own safety.
- Carry out needs assessments, including DASH (Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Honour Based Violence) risk assessment, to effectively deliver holistic, survivor centred support.
- Work in partnership with hospital staff, safeguarding departments and other services e.g. the police, housing, social services, mental health (amongst others) to advocate for survivors and complete referrals to ongoing support services where appropriate.
- Attend Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) meetings and refer service users to MARAC when appropriate.
- Assist clients in gaining access to solicitors, benefits agencies, housing departments, education, medical treatment, counselling, support networks, community groups, employment support etc.
- Recognise, respect and address the needs of survivors who face particular barriers when seeking access to services, including those from minority groups or with protected characteristics
- Safeguard the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk; working within safeguarding policies, Child Protection Procedures and local procedures for safeguarding adults at risk.
- Maintain accurate client records, outcome and monitoring data. Prepare information or reports for the monitoring and evaluation of the service.
- Complete daily ward rounds to raise awareness and identify any potential DA support needs for staff or patients.
- Participate in an out of hours rota, providing an on-call phone support service to hospital staff on Friday evenings and weekend days as timetabled.
Partnership Working and Training
- Promote the HIDVA service in the hospitals and build positive relationships with hospital staff, in particular safeguarding teams and clinicians.
- Attend safeguarding, mental health and frequent attenders meetings to screen patients for potential domestic abuse and provide advice to staff. Together with any other helpful meetings that may arise.
- Deliver training to staff in various health settings across Kent to raise awareness of domestic abuse, safe enquiry and appropriate responding.
General
- Maintain commitment to and work in line with the Rising Sun Framework.

Job Description
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) created the Culture Recovery Fund (CRF) to help cultural organisations and heritage sites during the COVID-19 pandemic. This Fund included a £254 million loans programme for arts, culture and heritage organisations. Arts Council acts as loan agent for the borrowers in the programme portfolio.
You will be responsible for all aspects of Arts Council's management of the CRF loans portfolio. You will be the principal contact with DCMS and will be required to meet with them regularly to report on a range of CRF loans portfolio issues and activities including formal portfolio reviews, loan re-profile recommendations, commissioning of external legal and financial advice, loans management process and systems.
The CRF Loans Director will have direct line management responsibility for the CRF loans team and your duties will include:
- Overseeing effective loans monitoring processes to identify where borrowers' business performance indicates a risk to loan repayment
- Reporting to DCMS on the performance of the loans' portfolio on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
- Making recommendations on appropriate action to take on defaulting or at-risk loans.

The Successful Applicant
The successful CRF Loans Director will hold an ACA/CCAB/CIMA qualification (or equivalent) with experience of working at a senior level and exposure to working with loan lenders and borrowers.

For Baby’s Sake is an innovative, therapeutic, trauma-informed programme. We work with both co-parents individually, supporting a recovery framework to overcome the devastating effects of domestic abuse in their relationship. We acknowledge and explore unresolved and often complex childhood trauma and change harmful patterns of behaviour to develop a home environment where children can flourish. We adopt an attachment-focused parenting approach that enhances the opportunity for children to feel safe and secure with parents who are emotionally available and attuned to all their needs.
There must be a current pregnancy to harness change motivations, a desire on behalf of both parents to co-parent their unborn baby (although they do not have to be in a relationship) and we can work with the families up until the baby reaches the age of 2. The significance of this two-year timescale is evidenced in all recent child development research.
