When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. That’s because a stroke happens in the brain, the control centre for who we are and what we can do. It happens every five minutes in the UK and changes lives instantly. Recovery is tough, but with the right specialist support and a ton of courage and determination, the brain can adapt.
We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke. And it’s a team effort to get there.
We provide specialist support, fund critical research and campaign to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support to rebuild their lives.
We’re working to improve the diversity of our team. Because we know that individuality leads to a richer experience for our people and better support for those affected by stroke.
We strongly encourage people from all backgrounds to apply. And we’re particularly looking to increase the number of applications from those with lived experience of stroke and those from under-represented communities.
Every five minutes, stroke destroys lives. Help us rebuild them and join our team.
In 2019, we developed a bold new corporate strategy so that we can rebuild more lives after stroke and make a bigger difference to people’s lives.
To help us deliver our strategy and make a real difference, we are looking to recruit talented people to a number of new roles.
If you would like to support stroke survivors to rebuild their lives, we want to hear from you!

About Nurse Lifeline
Founded in 2020, Nurse Lifeline is the UK’s first national, free, confidential, and peer-led listening service for all nurses, midwives, students, healthcare support workers, and their friends and families. Our charity was developed collaboratively by frontline nurses driven to support the mental health and emotional well-being of their colleagues. We provide a safe space for our community to offload and decompress with professionals who share their experiences and understand the pressures they face.
We are now seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to join our Trustee Board to support the next phase of our growth. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of a young, impactful organisation committed to improving the well-being of those in the nursing and midwifery professions.
Responsibilities of all our Trustees:

- Strategic Direction: Contribute to determining the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategy.
- Financial Oversight: Oversee the effective and efficient administration of the charity, ensuring its financial stability.
- Engagement and Representation: Actively engage with other Trustees and represent the organisation appropriately, bringing your personal experience and perspective to the role.
- Decision-Making: Evaluate performance against agreed goals and targets, participate constructively in meetings, and contribute to collective decision-making processes.
- Conflict of Interest: Declare any conflicts of interest while carrying out your duties.
- Advocacy: Advocate for the charity’s mission through your networks and support its efforts to raise awareness of its services.

Are you a good listener, able to show empathy and understanding as well as being able to spot the positive things in life? This could be the perfect role for you!
We are looking for volunteers who have a couple of hours a week to give on a regular basis to make friendly calls to people living with epilepsy who are feeling lonely or isolated.
“It made me feel like I wasn’t alone and has given me confidence within myself.”
You don’t have to have epilepsy yourself and your check-in calls don’t even have to be about epilepsy, sometimes people want to forget about that for a while and instead have a friendly conversation about what’s on telly, their favourite sport or their hobby.
You might be able to encourage them to get out and make more connections in their community but even if all you do is make someone laugh you have brightened their day and made a difference.
What's involved?
There is a DBS check to ensure we keep everyone safe and some basic training to enable you to get started. You’ll then be ready to start making calls. Calls typically last 30 minutes so depending how much time you have to give you can make a difference to two or three people a week, maybe even more!
Calls can easily be made over the phone or if you prefer over video call it's up to you which you prefer.
The role is flexible so that you can choose a time to volunteer that suits you. We only ask that you stick to that same time and day each week as it makes it easier for the service user to remember when to expect a call. We also ideally want you to be able to volunteer for at least a year so that service users have a consistent experience.
You’ll be fully supported by our befriending team and you’ll get to join our volunteer community with regular volunteer meet-ups. Our volunteer portal makes it easy to connect to other volunteers in your area or with shared interests and to be part of our volunteering community.

Make a difference – become an Academy Governor
You don’t have to be a parent or member of staff to be an academy governor – applications are appreciated from all with an interest in the local community. Academy governors come from all walks of life and specialist knowledge is not always needed. What IS essential is a desire to get involved in children’s education and make a difference to their lives.
We welcome applications from those with educational, health & safety and safeguarding experience, but academy governors are all volunteers and training and support is provided. The University of Chichester (Multi) Academy Trust partners new governors with a ‘buddy’ – a trusted and more experienced colleague on the governing body – who initially acts as their mentor. Briefing information and assistance is also available through newsletters, websites and helplines provided by the local authority and the Department for Education.
The Mission is to create a vibrant inclusive and aspirational family of academies, transforming life chances for pupils through excellent teaching, le
