We are looking for a dedicated Children’s Advocate to join our team and visit a secure children’s home in South Gloucestershire, near Bristol, to represent and amplify the voices of young people aged 10 to 18 who are in secure care.

Our Advocacy services offer direct support to children and young people in care, those in need, those in custody, care leavers, and those with mental health needs. Advocates across the country help ensure these young individuals have a voice in decisions about their lives. This support can be provided via a telephone helpline or through one-on-one advocacy, such as assisting a child at a review meeting or helping them file a complaint about their care. Coram Voice delivers visiting advocacy services to secure units nationwide, including Secure Training Centres, Juvenile Young Offender Institutions, psychiatric hospitals, residential special schools, and children’s homes.
About the Secure Unit:
The Secure Home accommodates up to 24 children, divided between two areas: 16 in the main home, which includes an educational unit, and a separate home for up to 8 young people. The children in this home require a secure placement for their protection and rehabilitation, and our role is to ensure that their rights are respected at every stage of their care.
About the Role:
As a Children’s Advocate, you will be an essential independent voice for the children in this secure home. You will regularly visit the home, meet with the children, and ensure their voices are heard in the decisions that affect their lives. Your advocacy will be pivotal in promoting their rights, safeguarding their well-being, and ensuring that their concerns and wishes are respected within the care planning process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build trusting relationships with the children, creating an open and safe environment for them to voice their concerns.
- Conduct regular visits to the secure home to meet with the children, ensuring they feel safe and supported in expressing their views.
- Represent children’s interests ensuring their voices are heard in decisions about their care, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Advocate for the Childrens rights, ensuring they understand their entitlements and are fully informed about decisions affecting them.
- Collaborate with care staff, social workers, youth offending team workers and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to safeguarding and supporting each young person, as directed by the wishes of the child.
- Ensure that safeguarding issues are identified and addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.
What we’re looking for:
- Proven experience in children advocacy, youth work, or social care, particularly with children and young people in residential, secure, or care settings.
- Knowledge of children’s rights, safeguarding practices, care and youth justice system.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage children or young people from diverse backgrounds and support them in expressing their views.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The Latin American Women’s Rights Service (LAWRS) is a human rights, feminist organisation led by and for Latin American migrant women in the UK. Our work is dedicated to supporting the immediate and long-term needs of Latin American migrant women exposed to violations of their fundamental human rights; facing violence against women and girls, exploitation or trafficking; enduring difficult living and working conditions in low paid jobs and facing barriers to social protection. Support Services Manager
As the Foodbanks Support Services Manager you will be delivering the foodbanks advice services, managing the relationships with partner organisations referring to the Foodbank and managing and developing the the Foodbank’s school & family support activities.
Key Responsibilities
- You will be responsible for the orientation of new organisations who will be referring to the Foodbank and the delivery of high-quality training on the referral process to all partners as needed.
- Through regular engagement with those organisations, you will forge strong relationships to ensure they provide an advice-first approach, maximising the level of help local people get before being referred to the Foodbank.

- Working closely with the Cirencester Foodbank’s Citizens Advice team and their Citizens Advice manager, you will ensure Foodbank clients are prioritised in obtaining further advice, monitoring the advisors’ caseloads and ensuring regular reporting
- Ensure that Foodbank clients are consulted and feedback gathered to make our services efficient, helpful, relevant, and respectful. Additionally, collect stories from clients to help illustrate the charities impact, issues that lead people into food poverty and enable further advocacy.

Overall purpose
The Programme Admissions Officer will be responsible for processing student applications, including conducting initial calls, checking eligibility and signposting where applicable. They would then flag new applicants with the relevant programme. This role is the gateway to accessing our services.
Key responsibilities

- Monitoring and processing new and incoming applications, which includes:
- Conducting initial calls with new applicants to determine their individual pathway and eligibility for Breaking Barriers’ programmes
- Prioritising students according to Breaking Barriers’ eligibility criteria and flagging with relevant programmes in order to support enrolments
- Providing university and career guidance and advice
- Providing learning plans for all professionals aiming to requalify

- Ensuring all information is accurately recorded on Salesforce for new and existing Breaking Barriers’ clients
- Performing any Salesforce admin for the programmes as and when required
- Working with management to improve and enhance enrolment processes where necessary

Other considerations
- As part of our safeguarding commitment to our clients, we carry out preemployment checks to ensure that successful applicants are suitable to work with adults at risk. These include basic DBS checks, obtaining references and verifying a candidate’s identity and right to work in the UK.
- Some travel between our different areas of operation (including London, Birmingham and Manchester) will be required. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. Time off in lieu would be provided in this case.
