The Senior Programmes Manager: University Access will play a pivotal role in the University Access and Digital team, overseeing and managing the delivery of high-impact interventions, including UK Summer Schools, The Sutton Trust Fulbright US Programme and Teacher Champions, that support young people from underrepresented backgrounds in accessing highly selective universities. The role requires someone with a strong understanding of the barriers faced by young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and a commitment to supporting them in reaching their potential.
With strong project management skills, key responsibilities include managing the programme partnerships, overseeing the marketing and applications process, monitoring and evaluating the impact of our programmes, continuously refining processes for improvements, and ensuring that the evolving needs of the target demographic are met. The post holder will also be expected to share best practice across the organisation and be a key contributor to the development of the Trust’s strategy for engaging schools, teachers, and students.
Main duties
Ongoing Programme Management
- Leading on the day-to-day project management and delivery of the Trust’s Higher Education access programmes with oversight and support from senior staff, including UK Summer Schools, The Sutton Trust Fulbright US Programme and Teacher Champions.
- Oversee the performance of 12 UK universities delivering the Sutton Trust’s Summer School programmes, the US-UK Fulbright Commission, Causeway Education, and other external partners. This includes:
- Managing partner performance against contractual obligations, including reporting and invoicing.
- Building and maintaining effective and enduring relationships, including the onboarding and training of new partners.
- Establishing a culture of collective learning through planning and delivery of events and best practice sharing.
- Overseeing the monitoring and evaluation of university access programmes in collaboration with external evaluation partners and internal teams; collating data and producing reports, ensuring the effective dissemination of findings and using these to refine programme design.
- Ensuring effective tracking, reporting, and management of programme data for university access. This includes using Salesforce (our CRM) for tracking partner performance, participant data, and programme outcomes.
- Managing programme budgets and reporting on financial status internally.
Programme innovation/development
- Proactively developing strategies to enhance programme delivery, ensuring programmes maintain their quality and reach, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Managing the development, implementation, and evaluation of special projects designed to evolve and improve university access programmes.
- Development and implementation of the school and teacher engagement strategy to support our programme aims and contributing to trust-wide strategy in this area, with support from senior leadership.
- Helping to develop new programmes, including contributing to the drafting of funding bids by Development colleagues.
Team Management & Organisational Duties
- Line management of the Senior Programmes Officer: Marketing and Communications and the Programmes Assistant: University Access and Digital
- Contributing to the leadership of the University Access and Digital team, working closely with the Head of University Access and Digital and other senior programme managers to ensure effective and coherent management of all access-focused programmes
- Representing the Trust at external speaking engagements, as well as contributing to fundraising and donor-related activities when required
- Other duties as necessary from time to time
Person Specification
We welcome applications from individuals who have experience in:
- Strong project and stakeholder management skills, with experience in managing partnerships, overseeing programme delivery, and financial control.
- Experience line-managing staff and motivating and supporting teams to deliver successfully
- Proven experience in designing, managing, and delivering high-quality programmes ideally with a focus on young people facing barriers to Higher Education.
- A strong understanding of the widening participation sector and the challenges faced by young people in accessing top-tier universities.
- Experience working with schools, colleges, or universities,
- Demonstrated ability to analyse data to inform decision-making and to use insights to improve programme delivery.
- Experience of working with CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to effectively represent the Trust at all levels.
- Strong budget management and numerical skills.

Terms of Appointment
- Contract: Full-time, Permanent
- Salary: £46,500-£49,500
- Working location: Minimum of 2 office days per week
- Office location: The Sutton Trust, 9th Floor, Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London, SW1P 4QP. Our home working policy gives staff the option to work from home for up to 60% of the time, with approval from their line manager.
- Hours: The standard working hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and may also be required to attend events / meetings outside of their normal working hours during weekday evenings and occasionally at weekends

The Role

About You

General:
Mary Hare educates 200 profoundly deaf children at its residential school in Berkshire and we pride ourselves on our pupils’ achievements at GCSE, A Level as well as B Tech and Vocational Courses. We offer the opportunity to teach highly motivated children, in small classes, where you can make a real difference at this national centre of excellence for deaf education. No knowledge of sign language is required, as we follow an auditory/oral philosophy.
The Role:
The principal activity is to promote Mary Hare School to families of deaf children and young deaf people. The marketing Manager is responsible for generating enquiries and visits by families to both Mary Hare Primary School and Mary Hare Secondary School. In addition the role must work with other areas of Mary Hare to promote them to their target audiences, including Courses, Burwood, the Mary Hare Foundation, Music Therapy, Private Speech Therapy and any other activities developed by the School.
The postholder is responsible for the Mary Hare brand and the communications strategy for all external audiences. The role also encompasses responsibility for social media, the website, and other digital media.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Development Director, to maintain the brand values and reputation of Mary Hare in all activities.
- Create and drive the strategy for reaching as many families of deaf children as possible to inform them of the opportunities for their child at Mary Hare School.
- Create advertising campaigns (digital and print)
- Organise attendance at Open Days to promote the school, including logging attendees on RS Admissions and sending information about the event to families
- Produce materials for exhibitions and events
- Manage the school website and social media
- Manage press and media relations for all events, visitors to the school and to maximise PR opportunities wherever possible
- Create and manage events aimed at professionals working in deaf education (with the primary aim of promoting the school)
- Working closely with the Head of the Courses Division, devise a strategy for promoting the courses offered by Mary Hare to professionals in the UK and overseas.
- Support the fundraising events of the Mary Hare Foundation where there is a PR aspect for the school (eg Charity Week)
- Support the work of the Mary Hare Foundation through press, media, and the website
- Manage and develop the materials used to promote the services of the Burwood Centre across the UK and maintain the indepenence of the Burwood Centre marketing from Mary Hare School.
- Promote the services offered in music therapy to (predominantly) people in the South East.

The Role
As our Retail Support Manager, you will provide management cover at retail locations as required by the charity. Supporting the Retail Area Manager, you will manage the day-to-day operation of the shop that you are covering, including managing a team of volunteers, ensuring accurate accounting and handling of assets, delivering high standards of customer service, and adhering to all charity policies and procedures. You will lead by example and ensure that volunteers, supporters, donors, and customers understand how their contributions are making a difference to the lives of people in Yorkshire and beyond.
Specifically, you will:
· Provide management cover at Retail locations as required by the charity currently including (but not limited to Harrogate, Skipton and Ripon Shops. This may also expand to include additional locations as the charity’s number of shops grows however depending on the role holder’s geographic location, we can agree which areas will be covered.
· Lead a team of volunteers to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
· Deliver any volunteer training required and make every effort to create a welcoming and happy environment.
· Responsible for volunteer training and engagement, ensuring the volunteer management system is actively kept up to date in the absence of the Shop Manager.
· Ensure there is management cover and sufficient volunteers to operate all trading hours.
· Ensure accurate accounting and handling of assets (items donated and money received).
· Responsible for ensuring accurate record keeping of items donated and the amount paid for each item for Gift Aid tax reclaim purposes at each location.
· Prepare and complete all shop administration including cash handling and banking functions to the highest standard, accurately and on time, always adhering to charity policy and procedures at each location.
· Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all customers and supporters
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need:
· To be ideally educated to A Level or equivalent.
· To have experience of managing people/volunteers including recruitment and development.

· To be highly organised with good time management skills.
· To be able to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
