Marketing Manager

Permanent, full-time post (35 hours), based in Edinburgh

We are looking for an experienced and energetic Marketing Manager to join the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh to build our new brand identity, strengthen our profile and develop our many audiences to deliver reach, reputation and revenue.

Working closely with the Garden’s income-generating teams, you will build on our reputation to optimise business opportunities for the Botanics Trading Company and proactively drive revenue, as well as working closely with fundraising colleagues on marketing campaigns that support our charitable objectives.

This is an exciting time to join the team and we have recently launched a new brand identity, a modern look-and-feel for the future which will help to guide the organisation in the coming years.  You will act as a brand guardian, protecting and enhancing our brand and supporting colleagues on implementation, messaging and compliance.

You will work collaboratively with the Head of Marketing and Communications and other colleagues across the organisation to devise strategic brand marketing campaigns that communicate our new vision to build a positive future for plants, people and the planet, and that help to meet annual corporate goals.

You will be part of a busy department, which is responsible for all aspects of marketing, communication, digital and publishing, and that supports the organisation’s marketing needs across learning and engagement, admissions, philanthropy, science and horticulture.

A track record in brand marketing and demonstrable commercial acumen are essential.  Experience of working in a similar environmental or charitable organisation is desirable. A recruitment pack outlining the key responsibilities of the post, can be found on our website.

About the role

This is an awesome role focussed on improving our ways of working and processes when it comes to those who support us. We want all of our supporters to have a first class experience when they decide to donate their time and/or money to supporting children and young people with cancer and their families. However we know that as an organisation we have more to do to make this happen and the time is now.

Working in Income Generation, this role will take a recently conducted diagnostic carried out by a business improvement consultant and not only work through the next steps but make change happen, prioritising the areas with the biggest wins. This role really will have a lasting legacy in the organisation.

We're not just looking for someone to map change, this person will lead operational design and process re-engineering that transforms the Income Generation directorate and it's workforce into high achievers. 

You’ll be based within the Project Management Office (PMO), a supportive team of professionals that lead transformational change across the organisation as well as corporate planning. You’ll also have close relationship with the Head of Planning and Strategy in Income Generation as well as the Associate Director Supporter Engagement.

What will I be doing?

No two days are the same at Young Lives vs Cancer. So, summarising your ‘day to day’ isn’t easy. Here are some of the main things you’ll be doing, but you’ll find more details in the job description.

• Building on the diagnostics carried out already within Income Generation directorate to optimise organisational design and scope improvements. 
• Using the diagnostics to identify pain areas, develop a sequenced plan to tackle these issues and then implement the plan to improve performance, processes and services i.e. “getting hands dirty”.
• Embedding a culture of improvement in the organisation and developing these capabilities within the workforce.
• All of these activities will involve facilitating workshops, engaging audiences with tailored communications, debating and negotiating ideas with leaders, managing governance, risks and dependencies, evaluating progress etc. 

What do I need? 

The key skills we’re looking for in this role are:

• Experience of delivering transformational change by using process improvement principles & methodologies such as TQM, Kaizen, Lean Six Sigma to design services and processes that deliver value, efficiency, higher quality, lower costs and better results
• Ability to do big picture thinking and drive the change that is needed, don’t sit back and react to the change that is happening.
• Challenging directly with assertive communication style balanced with caring deeply through consultative and listening skills. 
• Being curious,  looking beyond the obvious to get the real picture.
• Being proactive to get stuff done but in a flexible way, not being tied to a solution and having a healthy dose of pragmatism
• Strong analytical and evaluation skills.
• Creative thinker and ability to encourage innovation amongst colleagues
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and make smart decisions with limited information and changing priorities as well as support people to define issues.

Hours: 37.5 per week

Salary: £39,327 rising to £42,426 per annum with biennial increments

Location: Remote working with travel to Together Trust locations in Greater Manchester and surrounding area and attending some meetings throughout England where necessary.

Leading on Policy and Campaign development of the charity’s policy, your role will be to put forward evidence-based policy recommendations and campaigns and working with the people we support to influence change ensuring that the voice of the people we support is heard and acted on by key decision makers. 

Acting as the spokesperson for the Together Trust and the people it supports on policy issues you will be responsible for the following:

• Managing and developing the Together Trust’s policy and campaigns strategy in line with the Trust’s strategic long-term plan.
• Leading on the development of policy priorities with staff and the people we support. Working with them to develop a Theory of Change for the Together Trust. Working directly with the Trust Directors, Trustees and external agencies.
• Representing the Together Trust at meetings with MPs, Councillors, parliamentary groups, select committees to help drive forward Together Trust’s policy and campaigns work.
• Improving the Together Trust’s visibility in UK Parliament by attending sessions, submitting evidence and nurturing networks.
• Reporting on policy, campaigns and participation activities to the Supporting People sub-group, providing updates on activity and progress against key milestones.
• This role has line management responsibilities.

We’re looking for someone who has:

• An undergraduate degree qualification (Level 6 or equivalent), preferably in a relevant discipline with a good understanding of the UK political environment, local and national government structures and decision-making.
• Line management experience supporting team members to achieve their KPIs.
• Experience of using different campaign tactics including recruitment actions and support journeys.
• Experience of speaking at events or representing an organisation in a professional setting.

Ataxia UK is looking for a skilled and dedicated Specialist Ataxia Nurse for our new community-based nursing service, focused on supporting individuals with ataxia in the South West of England. The role is a significant development in expanding access to expert and joined-up ataxia care for the ataxia community, particularly in regions currently underserved by neurologists with expertise in the ataxias. 

As a Specialist Ataxia Nurse, you will provide personalised, face-to-face, and remote support to patients, assisting them in navigating the NHS and social care systems. Your responsibilities will include supporting patients during medical appointments, coordinating essential therapies such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy, and building strong relationships with healthcare professionals to enhance understanding and treatment of ataxia. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of resources and information for the ataxia community. 

We are looking for an experienced nurse with a background in neurology or chronic disease management and a strong commitment to patient advocacy. The ideal candidate will be a clear communicator, capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Your role will be vital in ensuring that individuals with ataxia receive timely and appropriate care, helping them to manage their condition and maintain their quality of life.
