About The Role 

The Help for Heroes Community Development team are looking to recruit a team of Community Builders to assist in their reshaped participation and connection strategy. Using Asset Based Community Development, we seek to support the charity’s objective to enhance reach and positive impact for members of the Armed Forces Community facing challenges within their local communities.

We are looking for a motivated, dynamic and confident people who are passionate about collaborating with communities in the design and delivery of interventions that bring and connect people together to strengthen networks within the local community. Working closely with Community Development Managers across regions within the UK, the Community Builders will play a vital role in helping to improve lives for Armed Forces Community members by creating a supportive environment that allows them to re-engage and connect with the services at Help for Heroes and with the wider community. 

The main purpose of this role is to connect local people through their skills, passions and assets and support the creation of new connections, bringing people together to improve wellbeing and make the community a better place to live. This will include listening to different points of views, building relationships and motivating people to work together and create their own action influenced by their interests and skillsets to positively impact local communities and help them to flourish.

About You

You will have experience leading and facilitating the mobilisation of local communities, asset mapping, bringing together people for engagement that matters to them. You will have knowledge and experience of Asset Based Community Development work, outreach methods and you will have good organisational skills, energy and the ability to animate local communities. 

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver outreach to drive local connection, engagement and participation opportunities for the AFC 

• Develop and embed an ABCD informed way of work 

• Asset map 

• Organise and facilitate community meetings to share ideas, encourage collective decision making and build a sense of belonging 

• Encourage and pilot community lead action in response to local AFC needs/interests through peer led/co-designed initiatives 

• Increase awareness of the challenges faced by military personnel, veterans and their families

PLEASE NOTE: The successful candidates will need to be based within an hour’s commute of their allocated locality and there is a requirement to travel within a 75-mile radius of this location (travel expenses covered). Flexibility in working hours is necessary to ensure a total of 70 hours is covered over a 2-week period so please take this into consideration before applying.

• A Community Development qualification and/or at least 3 years' experience working within a community development or similar role, with responsibility for bringing about social change and improving quality of life 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop relationships which lead to actions

• Experience of engaging and working collaboratively with partners/stakeholders 

About the Team 

You will work as part of the Community Development team; this newly formed team will approach working in defined localities using an asset based community development approach. Together the Community Development Managers and the Community Builders will strengthen local communities using resources and networks that are readily available. You will do this to proliferate opportunities for sustainable participation and engagement alongside a multi-disciplinary team in order to support the Armed Forces Community to live well after service.

• Source inspirational stories from our walking groups and volunteers, to help support growth of our membership community.

The HR Administrator will be involved in using an HR and payroll system, ADP, and have an important role in the employee lifecycle processes e.g., DBS checks, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, payroll, appraisals, and have day-to-day responsibility for the HR and Recruitment Outlook mailboxes.

Main Responsibilities

Working in the HR team, reporting to a HR Business Partner, your main responsibilities will cover:

Contribute towards the achievement of CUK and its strategic objectives

• Provide high standards of HR admin support to Citizens UK stakeholders.

• Play an important role in introducing new and improving existing HR processes for a better HR service delivery and employee experience.

• Be proactive in supporting the HR team in various streams of work to achieve the HR Business Plan.

Achieve work targets effectively

• New Starter Onboarding Process: creating documents for HRBP approval (offer letters and contracts), ensuring all starter paperwork is returned, requesting and tracking the return of references, right to work checks, and setting up new starter compliance training.

• Leavers: leading on leaver admin process, ensuring it is completed in timely manner.

• Recruitment: becoming an expert user of Applied, our applicant tracking system.  Advertising jobs (on Applied and external jobsites), arranging interviews and supporting colleagues with recruitment queries.

• Invoicing and Credit Card Reconciliation: processing invoices on Finance system, Kissflow and the monthly credit card reconciliation for HR transactions.  

• Payroll - accurately updating and maintaining ADP, the HR & Payroll database. Uploading documents, running reports. Supporting HRBPs with payroll queries.

• Regularly updating and auditing other HR data to ensure information is up to date (e.g., pensions data, new starter training, wellbeing data).

• Employment checks: maintaining the DBS list and processing DBS checks for existing and new staff.

• SharePoint: maintaining HR Self Service folder, ensuring documents are up to date.

• Appraisals: ensuring appraisal forms are logged and uploaded to ADP.

• Probation: Managing the probation period process

• Minute taking at HR/relevant meetings and sharing with colleagues.

• Supporting the team with ad hoc tasks as required and undertaking any task that may be requested from time to time that may be consistent with the nature and scope of this post.

• Ensuring HQ team is informed of joiners/leavers e.g., Facilities, Finance.

Communications

• Day to day responsibility for the HR and Recruitment Outlook inboxes, responding to routine queries and forwarding queries to HR colleagues.

• First point of contact for recruitment queries from candidates, forwarding them to the appropriate HR colleague or hiring panel as necessary.

Knowledge Management

• Understanding, handling, and managing data GDPR compliantly and keeping up to date with new legislation.

Generate income and resources

• Taking responsibility for the careful use and stewardship of Citizens UK’s resources.

• Using admin systems to track income/ resources accurately e.g., HR credit card cost tracker.

Safeguarding, Health & Safety

• Reporting on potential risks as they emerge to the appropriate colleagues in line with existing procedure.

• Organising and tracking employees’ compliance training.

About the Role: The Information Management Specialist will focus on the classification of organisational data, ensuring appropriate confidentiality levels, and implementing robust data loss prevention strategies. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Information Classification and Data Confidentiality:

About the role 

Demand for support for people experiencing homelessness is changing and we have a vacancy in our front facing Engagement and Assessment service.  

This service provides first line support to people experiencing homelessness, assessing their needs, identifying support, and working with other staff and services to address their homelessness.  

We need someone to join this team as a receptionist to increase our capacity to respond to new and existing members of Crisis.  

As the first point of contact, our Engagement and Assessment service greets individuals who are experiencing homelessness or facing a risk of homelessness. You will be working in a fast paced and often challenging environment, explaining and guiding people through the Crisis service offer, and signposting to other local support services. You will need to create a welcoming and encouraging environment, to ensure that people seeking support feel understood and respected.  

No two days are the same, and you will be greeting people, helping signpost to appropriate services, and responding to telephone and email enquires in a positive and supportive way. This is a key role as you will be part of a members journey out of homelessness, right from their first presentation.  

About you 

As a receptionist you have a real opportunity to demonstrate your compassion and empathy for people experiencing homelessness as our first point of contact at Crisis.  

Sometimes visitors are distressed by their situation and this role would suit someone who is both resilient and compassionate.  

You will need to have strong communication skills, be able to listen and respond even when people are demonstrating their distress through their language and behaviour. This is where you will demonstrate confidence in your ability to assertively challenge inappropriate behaviour and de-escalate conflict.  

You will develop professional relationships with our members who regularly attend and become part of their progression out of the most difficult of personal circumstances. Our current team tell us how rewarding and motivating this can be.  

You will need to be able to help manage the reception area, spot potential concerns and safety issues and respond to these to ensure that reception is a safe space for new and existing members, and other colleagues.  

You will have experience of working with vulnerable people, balancing this together with an excellent level of customer service, IT skills and an ability to accurately record sensitive information.  

You will be interested in evolving your skills and playing an active role as we continue to develop our Engagement and Assessment service further.
