Green Doctor Trainee

The Green Doctor Trainee will work alongside our experienced Green Doctors to help residents use energy efficiently, reduce bills, and to stay warm and well in their homes. The role will include supporting customers by telephone, travelling in the local area to deliver home energy visits, fitting small energy-saving measures (sometimes involving working at height), and taking part in promotional activities to spread the word about our service. You will learn how to use equipment and tools, gather and record data accurately, and ultimately provide high-quality advice to help people who are most in need.
We are seeking an individual who is motivated to develop a career in the energy advice sector, and who is committed to supporting vulnerable people to act more sustainably, to stay warm and well in their homes, and to reduce their household bills.
The ideal candidate would be approachable, professional and motivated to learn. We’ll help you to gain the technical qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience needed, provided you commit to a structured programme of learning alongside other Trainees. The role will involve working in communities and supporting vulnerable people in their homes, so interpersonal skills and a commitment to working safely and responsibly will be critical.
As part of a small team, communication and team-working skills will be essential, as well a willingness to travel to support customers within an agreed geographical area.

GREEN DOCTOR ACADEMY
This placement is part of a national Green Doctor Trainee scheme funded by the Cadent Foundation. Trainees will take part in the Green Doctor Academy: a program of training, learning and support. This will include a period of training, support, and observing colleagues before you take responsibility for your own Green Doctor caseload.
The Green Doctor Academy, provided by Groundwork Manchester, will include a 2-day induction for trainees to understand the role and explore key issues of fuel poverty, energy-saving awareness, climate education and property retrofit.
This is followed by a mixture of face-to-face and online training and opportunities to gain qualifications such as:
• Level 3 City and Guilds Energy Awareness
• Carbon Literacy Certificate
• Qualifications Network UK (QNUK) Level 2 Health and Safety at Work
• QNUK Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual handling at Work
• QNUK Level 2 Safe Use of Ladders and Stepladders (3 Guided Learning Hours)
• Asbestos Awareness (online module) – Asbestos Awareness – UK Asbestos Training Association
• Safeguarding and working with vulnerable residents
To give you an idea of the kind of learning involved in the Green Doctor Academy, Level 2 qualifications equate to a GCSE standard pass (Intermediate GNVQ or BTEC first certificate) and will help you build knowledge in the area. Level 3 covers more complex work and will help you develop your supervisory skills – this equates to BTEC National Certificate or Vocational A-Level / A-level.
In addition, Groundwork South will provide a full induction to our organisation and how Green Doctor works across our region. Training and support for trainees will include:
• Line manager support to map and review the goals of your placement.
• Informal buddy system during on boarding

About the oppurtunity:
You will help drive the quality and impact of our key stage 2 (KS2) and key stage 4 (KS4) maths tutoring programmes through subject-specific training of volunteer tutors, and by advising and supporting our (mostly) non-teaching staff members who manage these volunteer tutors day to day.
You will also observe and give feedback to volunteer tutors delivering maths tuition, and deliver general training for new volunteers, so that they are confident and effective in taking part in our tutoring programmes.

Specific responsibilities relating to the role:
Supporting the delivery of our maths curriculum:
- Design and deliver online maths-focused training for volunteer tutors so that subject knowledge is secure within the tutor community.
- Provide advice and support, including some direct tutor communications, on subject-specific matters for Action Tutoring staff who manage volunteer tutors.
- Maintain existing tutoring GCSE and KS2 maths curriculum resources to ensure volunteer tutors have high quality materials to use in sessions.
- Support Action Tutoring’s Programme Department to provide and respond to requests for additional materials for tutoring sessions, particularly maths sessions.
- Support with creation of additional maths resources on an ad hoc basis as required, applying Action Tutoring’s pedagogical approach and standards for diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Format any newly generated maths curriculum content for printing.
- Reformat maths curriculum resources for online delivery of tutoring sessions.
- Engage in learning and development opportunities in order to keep knowledge about the expectations set out in the maths national curriculum (KS2 and KS4) and the main exam boards up to date.
Quality assuring tutoring delivery:
- Observe several virtual tutoring sessions a week. Make detailed and unbiased notes on tutor skills, craft empathetic constructive feedback in emails.
- Support our programme delivery team to craft communications and feedback to tutors.
- Produce ‘quality tips’ and resources for tutors and staff.
- Work with Action Tutoring’s volunteer engagement team to feedback trends so that the quality assurance process at the tutor application stage is as strong as possible.
Delivering volunteer tutor training:
- Support the Training Manager by delivering up to four virtual initial tutor training sessions a week during peak months, presenting Action Tutoring’s established training content.
- Support the Training Manager by contributing updates to tutor training content.
- Create content for tutor CPD materials to support with maths tutoring.

Qualifications criteria:
- Qualified secondary school teacher of Mathematics
- At least two year’s teaching experience in English state schools with an understanding of the barriers facing disadvantaged pupils

Job Description
You'll be an experienced qualified High Intensity Therapist with BABCP accreditation who likes working as part of a supportive team to help clients who struggle with common mental health problems such as anxiety and/or depression.
You will be responsible for the clinical supervision of Mind and Body Practitioners and CBT Therapists. Supervision will be provided on both an individual and group basis. You will be expected to support the clinical governance of the Mind and Body service.

- Have a Post Graduate Diploma in an NHS Talking Therapies Course or a recorded/registered qualification in one of the following - nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or within a psychological therapy – plus further post-graduate qualification training in CBT along with significant experience working as a practitioner
