Summary of the role:
The Head of Communications is responsible for shaping and delivering the organisation’s communication strategy to establish Muslim Aid as a leading faith-based voice and thought leader in international development, humanitarian programming and positive systemic change. This role involves managing all aspects of internal and external communications, including media relations, digital content, and brand management. The Head of Communications will work closely with the Director of Strategy and Communications to ensure that communication efforts are aligned with the organisation’s strategic goals and effectively engage stakeholders.
About the Role:
Develop and implement a comprehensive global communication strategy that enhances the organisation’s public image, engages key stakeholders, and supports the achievement of strategic goals. Ensure that the strategy is flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.
Lead the development and monitoring of annual communication plans that outline key initiatives, campaigns, and activities. Ensure that these plans are aligned with the organisation’s strategic priorities, reflect cross-departmental needs and include clear objectives, timelines, and performance metrics.
Provide editorial oversight for all content produced by the communications team, digital or otherwise: including social media posts, website content, newsletters, press releases, and other written materials. Ensure that all content adheres to the organisation’s messaging guidelines and brand standards.
Act as the overall guardian of the Muslim Aid brand and put in place processes and support to ensure it is represented at its best in all external communications.
Ensure that the organisation’s brand reflects and aligns with organisational identity and is consistently applied across all communication channels. Lead efforts to refresh and strengthen the brand as needed to reflect the organisation’s evolving direction.
Steer strategic engagement with the media to ensure accurate reporting on Muslim Aid’s activities, priorities, principles, and approach, as well as to platform Muslim Aid’s strategic direction and goals, and advance the organisation’s thought leadership.
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Proven leadership experience in a communications role, preferably within an INGO or similar organisation.
- Proven experience in developing and executing successful communication strategies, managing media relations, and overseeing digital communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to create compelling content for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools, social media platforms, and content management systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The role
We have a vacancy for a Regional Administrator working 17.5 hours per week (3 days per week including Wednesday & Friday). You would be joining a dedicated and friendly team of regional staff and volunteers. The ability to work autonomously as well as being a good team player is essential.
It is an exciting time to be joining Cruse, as we are in the process of improving our processes and services to strengthen the support that we offer to bereaved people and our volunteers. The post holder will coordinate and assist with the delivery of all aspects of service contracts in the Lambeth Borough of London, supporting the Regional Manager and the wider team. The role is mainly home working with occasional meeting attendance and service delivery within Lambeth. Networking and engaging with local groups / communities will form an essential element to the role, as well as providing initial contact and support to residents in the Lambeth area.
You will be the first point of contact within the service for bereaved people, third parties and external organisations. Additionally, you will support volunteers in the delivery of services and support the overall day-to-day running of the Lambeth service.

What you can expect in return

The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2024
Based in Hayle, we are looking for a new team player to join this high performing team who deal with all incoming requests for help, both by telephone and email, to listen to and record the needs of elderly and/or terminally ill people and their pets.
Where help is required, to raise a computerised record to log the case, task volunteers nationwide by telephone and email to offer assistance to elderly petitioners with the pet care and reassurance needed in order to honour our mission statement of “Peace of mind for owners, love care and safety for their pets”. Liaise with both petitioner and volunteer throughout to ensure the delivery of our service. This post will require a good overall understanding of the needs of elderly people and their pets.
An essential occupational requirement of this role is to participate with on-call midweek evenings and weekends (this will be one full week in five). Together with other members of the on-call team you will participate with on-call on a rota basis to help ensure and maintain our emergency telephone line during these times.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
i. To assist in contacting volunteers nationwide by telephone and email and tasking by telephone as required to help petitioners with their pets.
ii. To listen to the needs of each petitioner and accurately record information for each petitioner and their pet by completion of a computerised case to record volunteers assigned and the service provided.
iii. To ensure you record all of your communications onto the database in an accurate and timely fashion by way of comments on each petitioner case at the end of each conversation.
iv. To help maintain up-to-date records and mailing lists for petitioners, petitioners’ contacts and volunteers throughout the course of your work.
v. To ensure the appropriate delivery and quality of service provided to petitioners when you are handling a request for:-
a) Dog Walking
Task a minimum of two volunteers per case to assist with dog walking. Contact all volunteers after their first dog walk to check and ensure they have started, log all responses onto the database, then complete the case.
b) Home Checks
When a potential long term fosterer is identified, you will be asked to task a volunteer to visit and carry out a home check. Once the completed home check has been received, complete the case – (all home checks will be valid for 12 months).
c) Short Term Fostering (stf)
To initially gather as much information about the pet(s) as you can and how soon a foster is required. Raise a case and log all details onto the database, begin a computerised search for a suitable volunteer to foster, arrange transport, if needed, to take the pet(s) to the volunteer and follow up 24 hours after the pet arrives to ensure all is well. Keep in touch weekly.
If the pet goes home – arrange transport to take the pet back home, again follow up 24 hours after the pet has returned home with a phone call to the petitioner to ensure all is well. If dog walking or any other assistance is needed, raise a new case and task the appropriate volunteers to either dog walk, offer Pet Care, reassure etc.
If the pet(s) goes into long term foster – refer to your line manager, once a decision is made, then follow the protocols for Long Term Fostering see below.
d) Long Term Fostering (ltf)
Raise a Long Term Foster Case, if needed, identify and chat to potential individuals, all of whom must already be home checked, run through the home check with the person to identify any changes, refer to your line manager, once the right individual is selected, arrange transport to take the pet(s) to their new ltf home. Once the pet(s) have arrived, follow up 24 hours later to ensure all is well.
e) Pet Care
When required, task a volunteer to visit a petitioner and offer pet care, whether it is to administer medicine, groom, clean out a litter tray, bird cage, reassure, or any other pet care as agreed with your line manager as this is not an exhaustive list.
f) Talks
To task a volunteer to give a talk, attend an event, or represent The Trust, but, always take advice from your line manager with regard to appropriate volunteers for these tasks.
g) On-call
To ensure delivery of our service by participating in on-call and helping to maintain our emergency telephone line. Together with other members of the on-call team, on a rota basis to help answer on-call emergencies this will be one full week in five – Monday to Monday including the weekend encompassing bank holidays, if applicable. A day in lieu will be given for working bank holidays.
Upon completion of an entire week on-call and following a debrief with your line manager, a rest period of 1 day will be given to you immediately after ie Tuesday.
On-call is for emergencies which will require an urgent response, for example if an ambulance is waiting to take someone to hospital, your urgent response is vital to provide peace of mind for the owner, love care and safety for a frightened bewildered pet.
v. To liaise with all other members of The Trust to help maintain a quality service.
vi. To contribute to the team by helping to update volunteer and petitioner cases in the course of your communications.
vii. To help maintain filing and filing systems related to your work.
viii. To liaise with all other staff of The Trust in a flexible manner.
ix. To liaise with all petitioners and members of the general public in a polite and helpful way.
x. To be familiar with and adhere to procedures and protocols, disciplinary and applicable rules and ensure compliance with legislations (Health and Safety, Data Protection, especially the privacy of members, petitioners and volunteers alike).
xi. At all times to ensure and maintain a compassionate, professional and efficient public image for The Trust.

Responsibilities & Key Tasks
- Support a caseload of companions to reach their potential through both practical and emotional support.
- Tailor support plans to meet individual need - setting goals, assigning actions, working with other providers and considering the person’s holistic needs.
- Guide induction and exit processes for companions - to ensure that they understand the core principles of the offer at Emmaus and move on to long term, sustainable accommodation after us.
- Support with incident response - including anti-social behaviour, mental health concerns, challenging behaviour - using de-escalation techniques to manage behavior as it arises.
- Liaise with external providers such as the Community Mental Health Team, General Practitioners, DWP, probation, prisons and CAB to ensure specialist advice and guidance is sought where needed.
- Contribute to the planning and introduction of varied and meaningful activities for companions at Emmaus Hertfordshire.
- Ensure Safeguarding concerns are raised at the earliest opportunity through appropriate channels..
- Attend appointments online or in person with companions.
- Maintain accurate records in line with internal policy and with consideration for GDPR principles.
- Perform tasks to support the effective running of the community. Develop and maintain relationships with external providers.
- Participate in an emergency on-call rota to ensure 24/7 support is available for companions where needed.
- Provide written updates for key stake holders as well as for internal meetings.

About you:
We are seeking someone who is comfortable and experienced working in a small company or charity, understanding that our capacity and resources are limited. A 'can do' attitude and a motivated approach are essential. While direct experience with homelessness may not be necessary, you should have a solid understanding of the common challenges faced by those who have been homeless. Attention to detail is essential, as is the ability to identify and promptly address risks or safeguarding concerns. Empathy, attentive listening, and strong verbal communication skills are also key requirements. Proficiency with IT and the ability to maintain up-to-date records in our database are necessary. Additionally, you should have the tools to maintain your well-being in what can be a challenging but rewarding role. You will need to demonstrate and build the resilience required to work with individuals who may struggle to engage with services like ours and think creatively to encourage engagement. While practical experience supporting vulnerable adults is highly desirable, we are also interested in hearing from you if you have transferable skills and a willingness to learn, even if you haven't worked in the homelessness sector before.

The Contactless giving Fundraising Team sits within the wider F2F Fundraising and Individual Giving Team
This important role entails working with the Trusts regional teams as a Team Leader within the wider Face to Face (F2F) fundraising team In this particular instance this role will have a focus on championing our Contactless Giving Workstreams across the regions, with the support of their face to face fundraising colleagues.
They are responsible for delivery of our contactless giving programme and ensuring that they are able to setup a maintain a varied programme of workstreams by sourcing and providing key technology and tools to all of the Trusts regions. You will help drive delivery of the agreed Team and individual targets and KPI’s for the region(s) with a particular focus on Contactless Giving.
This role will work across the regions as a dedicated national support and will be required at times to provide hands on coaching, training and support regionally to drive ongoing engagement and enthusiasm for the programme. They will also support the Regional Face to Face Fundraising Managers to identify and business case potential future opportunities when required.
You will play a significant role in supporting the day to day management of our contactless giving income stream by supporting our F2F Fundraisers, regional colleagues and volunteers, ensuring our Values & Behaviours and performance excellence standards are met on a consistent basis.
Location & coverage
You will be working remotely and should expect to spend more than 50% of your week out on location meeting with your fundraising team across the region.
There is an expectation of working some weekend days at our key regional events, spread over the year and being a part of the weekend Contactless Giving management rota, which denotes working at least one weekend per month.
As a remote worker you will be assigned one of our main hub spaces as as your formal base
Relevant hubs include: Leeds, Ellesmere Port, Burnley.
Working Hours: 37 hours Monday to Friday with occasional weekend & bank holiday working.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience
Key Accountabilities:
- Work with the Contactless Giving Fundraising Manager to devise robust strategies to achieve weekly & monthly volume and quality based fundraising targets, particular focus on Contactless Giving within the regions, Museums and attractions and our F2F Fundraising teams.
- Develop contactless fundraising techniques with the Contactless Giving Fundraising Manager that improve income generation for the Trust.
- Support the Face to Face fundraising management team with reviews and business casing of future fundraising opportunities for the face to face & regional fundraising programme.
- Ensure management of key contactless giving channels including devices, signage, branded clothing and collateral all contain contactless donation touchpoints across the network.
- Adhere to the IOF and Fundraising Regulator Code of conduct.
- Handle all sensitive and data protected information obtained by donors as confidential and in a safe and secure manner in line with the Trust’s GDPR and Security Procedures.
- Ensure regular Compliance checks and training sessions are delivered to the F2F team and Regional colleagues, particualrly around Contactless Giving.
- Clear, regular and timely communication with the Team and all members of the senior management team.
- Nurture and maintain positive relationships with regional colleagues to support delivery of F2F fundraising priorities, engagement and training; particularly contactless giving programme.
- Coach and mentor team members in the region and support the maintenance of performance targets and improvements where needed.
- Ensure that all data input and insight reporting is maintained for the benefit of the team including key systems such as CRM, Evergiving and other fundraising platforms and technologies.
- Support operational processes for managing equipment, managing suppliers, regulatory compliance and complaints management.
