MAIN PURPOSES OF THE JOB
The Stella Maris (SM) Regional Port Chaplain will promote the vision, mission and values of SM in caring for all seafarers and fishers by helping to meet their pastoral and spiritual needs. They will recruit, train and support SM staff and volunteers for the port and will maintain good relations with local parishes and the local diocese. They will work ecumenically with members of other Christian maritime societies with whom SM works.
1. To meet the welfare and pastoral needs of all seafarers and fishers equally according to their needs and wishes. To be an advocate on their behalf, upholding the dignity of each. Through regular and frequent ship visiting, to understand the working and living conditions of the seafarer and fishers and be able to work for justice and for the well-being of all crew members without distinction.
2. To address the communication needs of seafarers, providing transport, news, and access to telephone and internet facilities.
3. To address the welfare needs of seafarers and fishers, including support with money transfers, hospitality, and crisis support, e.g. abandonment, injury and death, detainment, bereavement, advice and access to medical care.
4. To meet the ecclesial, spiritual, and sacramental needs of Catholic seafarers and fishers; to facilitate the religious and spiritual needs of others and to be a pastor to all, sharing one’s faith as appropriate.
5. To participate in SM conferences, ongoing formation and other professional courses as required.
6. To supporting seafarer centre functioning.
7. To recruit, train, develop and retain a SM ship visiting volunteering team.
8. To represent SM on the local Port Welfare Committee(s), to include attending such meetings and submitting reports.
9. To liaise and maintain good working relationships with all port stakeholders, including the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the International Transport Workers’ Federation, port health, harbour masters, dockers, security, and shipping agents.
10. To work in an ecumenical and multi-faith context by respecting the differing religious and spiritual needs of seafarers drawn from diverse regions throughout the world.
11. To encourage and support the development of an ecumenical service to seafarers through engagement with our ecumenical colleagues, including the Mission to Seafarers, The Fishermen’s Mission, The Sailors’ Society (to name a few).
12. To engage with local maritime colleges.
13. To engage with the local press, in particular the local Catholic diocesan press.
14. To represent and be a proactive advocate for SM at Deanery meetings, in local parishes, in schools, with diocesan Justice and Peace networks, with migrant communities, in the local Catholic community and in the local community as a whole.

Stella Maris UK is a well-known and respected charity within the maritime industry We are the largest ship visiting network in the world. As a Regional Port Chaplain, you will be responsible for being the face of the charity when visiting ships, seafarers, fishers and their families. You will also be representing the charity at meetings, conferences, events and any other required functions. You will need to be effective, efficient, well organised, confident and comfortable in working with all other stakeholders, organisations and charities whilst undertaking various tasks in and out of the port environment.
The role will also require interactions and communication with various staff members at head office, the Senior Area Port Chaplain and other members of the team, as well as communicating and building relationships with local Catholic parishes. You may also be asked to attend various meetings or gatherings where you would be asked to give a presentation on the work of Stella Maris.
It will be vitally important to be flexible whilst working within this role and environment using as much effective time management as possible, but remaining creative and using initiative, when necessary, in certain situations and circumstances.
The role of chaplain can often be a lonely and sometimes isolated role that may require some out of hours working. Things do not always go according to plan and sometimes you may not be welcomed onboard. The role can be challenging mentally, emotionally and sometimes physically (long, steep gangways to board ships). You will be part of a team that has chaplains spread out through the South of England and Wales, as well as being part of a larger team of chaplains in the North of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Chaplains in the South of England and Wales gather together for a retreat and social time once a year, and the whole organisation will also meet annually for a retreat and staff conference.
Supporting seafarers is a varied, demanding, rewarding, fulfilling and vital ministry.

The Role
FARA is looking to launch the charity’s new Individual Giving programme and is looking for an experienced fundraiser to lead the creation and launch of this.
It is an exciting time for the charity, which helps disadvantaged children, young people, adults and their families in Romania. Building on the initial income opportunities and strategy development work done by fundraising consultants, you will be joining a marketing function with ambitious plans to transform their communications. You will work alongside colleagues across the whole organisation to deliver this work and will have the support of the Director of Marketing and Communications, the CEO and additional support from Nova Fundraising who have already been working with the charity on a consultancy basis.
The Individual Giving Manager will be responsible for:
- Creating systems, structures, activities and messages designed to launch and grow individual giving with an ambition to take the charity’s fundraising income to six figures over three years.
- Using data to inform Individual Giving campaigns, creating powerful messaging to acquire, retain and upgrade donors through digital and offline methods.
- Brief and oversee the work of external agencies, as required, to support the recruitment and engagement of new supporters.
- Oversee and implement stewardship plans and supporter journeys for financial donors, who work alongside those of other supporters to ensure optimum message integration and upsell/cross-sell opportunities.
- Work with colleagues to generate and implement FARA’s email stewardship programme for individual givers.
- Plan, schedule and manage personalised communications with donors.
- Explore other fundraising areas, including events, community, legacy and major donors.
The Person
Are you entrepreneurial, innovative, personable, and collaborative, with experience developing and delivering fundraising programmes?
The role requires a candidate with a strong background in building relationships and identifying and developing new fundraising messages, campaigns and activities from scratch.
This is not a case of picking up a mature programme and running with it (although the organisation does have a small baseline of donors who have been giving for many years). The opportunity is all about creating, testing and learning – to diversify income sources at FARA, utilising the extensive network of supporters it has gained through its 40 charity shops across London.
You will need to be proficient in digital platforms, with experience in building a digital-focused approach to supporter acquisition and donor development. You will play a crucial role in nurturing relationships with individual supporters to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children, young people and adults in Romania.
The post-holder will have previous experience in fundraising, ideally experience specifically within IG, however this is not essential and we will consider candidates looking to transition into a new area of fundraising. You will need experience of developing creative fundraising programmes and be excited by the prospect of pursuing new opportunities for the organisation by engaging with existing supporters—many of whom might only have ‘gifted’ the charity via donations of pre-loved clothes and other items to FARA shops.

Job Responsibilities:
- With support from the Community & Events Manager, organise and lead on the successful delivery of the annual hospice fundraising event programme
- Research, plan and implement new events to diversify the annual programme
- Proactively seek and maintain new relationships to enhance our events
- Conduct presentations and hospice tours to engage supporters and partners
- Prepare feasibility studies, budget and action plans for all events
- Undertake post event data analysis and evaluation for every event, reporting against KPIs, income breakdown, costs against budget

- Understanding and enthusiasm towards charity fundraising events

As the Essex Recovery Fund Officer, you will play a crucial role within the Radical Change team at Essex Recovery Foundation. As Supporter Care Manager you will play a key role in Viva’s Fundraising & Engagement team, building relationships with and providing exceptional supporter care to our donors – including individuals, churches and community groups. We are looking for an experienced grants fundraiser to join us and make a significant impact on our work with young people in central Doncaster.
We are currently finalising our next Forward Plan, with an ambition to create an inclusive, vibrant community, committed to everyone having a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become. We currently work with children and young people aged 5 to 30.
Our priority programmes include support coaching for young people, community activity sessions, sustaining our accommodation provision for vulnerable young adults and establishing how we can best support more young people on the homelessness pathway. We have some great spaces that are in need of development, and we expect that both capital and revenue funding will be included in your workload. We also look for smaller grants during the course of the year, including for food for our residents and supplies for our art groups, and we hope to recruit volunteers to assist with the smaller and less complex bids.

The Role
