The Bone Cancer Research Trust launched a dedicated Support Service in 2019, in response to feedback from our community. Over the last 5 years, the Service has seen a significant increase in reach. We are now at a crucial stage, after conducting a comprehensive review of our Support Service and are now looking for an exceptional, dedicated and enthusiastic leader to drive the implementation of findings and recommendations, ensuring everyone affected by primary bone cancer become aware of, access and trust our portfolio of services and information resources.

The successful candidate will bring our current Support Service and Health Information functions together, to form a cohesive and comprehensive Support and Information Service also and will develop a framework to monitor the impact of this Service, ensuring that the needs of the primary bone cancer community remain at the heart of the Service.

The Role

The Trust had an income of £4.7m in year ending March 2024, excluding an exceptional legacy of £2.2m. To enable the charity to push ahead with this vital work to restore the natural environment across Staffordshire, income needs to be increased to £10m by 2030.

The Digital Marketing Lead will be the key contact for digital communications and marketing within the organisation, providing input into annual budgets and plans from the perspective of their expertise.

Your role will involve designing, testing, and delivering engaging campaigns, and mapping user journeys to enhance supporter experience. 

This position is a new one, and one of the key recommendations of a fundraising research assignment conducted at the end of 2024.

About You

This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious and innovative storyteller to use their digital marketing skills to drive engagement and fundraising. The ability to create engaging content for various digital channels, a keen eye for detail and experience of crafting superb copy are essential.   

You must be familiar working with data and analytics to extract insight to continually drive performance of communications and have experience of mapping user journeys through all touch points, including social media and the website, to enhance the quality of supporter experience.

What the job involves

We’re on the lookout for a Legacy and In Memory Executive to join our Individual Giving Team here at Prostate Cancer UK. This role focuses on legacy and in-memory giving - including gifts in wills which are some of the most meaningful contributions we receive, helping us fund research that will save and improve lives.

In this role you’ll be part of an exciting time at the charity, joining us as we roll out our new Fundraising Strategy and start developing new products. You’ll be delivering thoughtful, well-timed and engaging communications to a variety of audiences, helping us reach new supporters and deepen relationships with those already connected to us. Your work will play a vital part in raising awareness, encouraging supporters to consider leaving a gift in their Will, and providing meaningful ways to remember loved ones.

Working closely with our Legacy and In Memory Manager, you’ll help manage relationships with external agencies and collaborate with both internal teams and external partners to make sure our plans are delivered smoothly and successfully. It’s a role where your creativity, empathy and organisation will all come into play.

You’ll also be responsible for the operational duties of the Prostate Cancer Memorial Sculpture – a poignant tribute to the dads, grandads, brothers and friends we’ve lost to prostate cancer, and a place for families and communities to reflect, remember and raise awareness.

As a small team, we value individuals who are proactive, take personal responsibility, and are comfortable working independently. Each team member plays a crucial role in advancing our charity's mission to support children and young people with a parent struggling with mental illness.

We are fully remote and meet in-person approximately 2 – 3 times per year in a range of locations easily reachable by public transport (recently London and York).

SMK runs programmes for individuals and groups, offering support, advice, and a place to share knowledge on the key areas of effective campaigning. From strategy, tactics, and targets to evaluating successful campaigns, we equip campaigners with the tools and confidence to drive high-impact change.

As Head of Programmes, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing the quality, delivery and impact of all our capacity-building programmes. You will be key in managing our stakeholder relationships, including our pool of Associates, grant funders and consultancy clients. You will be responsible for stewarding and developing our existing training offer securing an annual trading income of up to £140k and a grant income of £300k (60% of which is already secured for 25/26 with more in the pipeline).

You will need commercial nous, grant fundraising expertise, the ability to develop and manage programmes, and the confidence to influence and support clients and donors. Using your knowledge of change and strategy, you will develop creative and agile programmes and ensure they are continuously being improved in a fast-changing field. You will be intellectually curious and follow campaign trends supporting campaigners to thrive and get results.
