As our Head of Retention and Customer Journeys you’ll focus on retaining donors and customers, building brand loyalty and driving action in-year, and over a lifetime. Working across all customer segments you’ll help to develop and deliver multi-channel marketing campaigns, customer journeys and communications to cross sell, upsell and ultimately improve Life-Time-Value.
Leading a multi-disciplinary team and working across all customer segments, as well as a broad portfolio of activity including, but not limited to, individual and committed giving programmes, Legacies, Events, and Community campaigns, you’ll be responsible for delivering multi-million-pound mass fundraising income targets. You’ll work closely in partnerships with our agencies and in-house teams, reducing attrition rates, improving engagement and product holing and delivering the most effective customer centric profitable approach to support the work of BHF.
Working arrangements
Please note that this is a fixed term contract for 12 months.
This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.

About you
Fully able to effectively use the full suite of MS Office and databases you’ll have an understanding of and empathy with BHF’s cause and objectives. You’ll also have a strong working knowledge of product marketing, customer data and CRM/retention activity.
With extensive commercial experience, able to demonstrate impact/growth in sales and revenue. You’ll have experience of devising and developing retention and customer journey marketing activity, across a full range of channels, in particular below the line, data, direct mail, email and SMS.
With extensive experience of leading and managing partner agencies, particularly CRM and below-the-line agency management, that aims to drive cut-through and competitive advantage, you’ll have strong strategic and analytical skills, able to translate data into actionable plans and deliver outcomes.
With excellent leadership and management skills, able to motivate, empower and develop teams and individuals, you’ll have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to develop strong working relationships quickly, and with ease, and able to influence, negotiate and build relationships and all levels.
You’ll have excellent planning and prioritisation skills, able to identify opportunities and focus activity to maximise success. You’ll also be achievement orientated and resilient, able to lead a team, and yourself, to meet deadlines and manage priorities.

To play a key role within the Development Team to maximise the fundraising potential of the SS Great Britain Trust through a wide range of activities, with a particular focus on creating high quality fundraising applications and proposals, carrying out research, and maximising income from corporate partnerships.

Main tasks

- With a particular focus on corporate fundraising, develop and deliver opportunities to grow income from companies through membership, sponsorship and events.
- Review, analyse, and report on income, working to agreed targets, helping to inform the strategy and deliver growth.
- Deliver events for the fundraising team including managing invitation lists, managing event budgets, developing event plans, briefing notes and planning post event activity.
- Provide excellent stewardship for all supporters, with a focus on thanking in new and innovate ways.
- In consultation with the Development Manager research potential new sources of income across all areas. Conduct research to support fundraising for projects, create briefing notes for events and meetings, and undertake other research as required, in line with GDPR and relevant charitable regulations.
- Create high quality and engaging fundraising materials to secure support including corporate partnership proposals, trust fundraising applications, member appeals and sponsorship bids.
- Produce high-quality written communications for supporters, with a particular focus on companies.
- Develop and implement processes to ensure that supporters are asked, thanked and reported to in timely way.
- Be a champion for the CRM database, recording and using data to maximise fundraising potential.
- Undertake other duties as can be reasonably required to assist in the smooth and efficient running of the Trust. Some weekend and out of hours working may be required.

Working with the Individual Giving and Legacies Manager, the post holder will deliver a strategy to grow income, providing excellent stewardship to legacy enquirers and pledgers. Relationship building with local solicitors, funeral directors and other key stakeholders will be key along with proactive legacy marketing campaigns, and the promotion of the Centers in memory gardens.
A confident and creative professional with experience in individual giving fundraising – ideally in memory giving or legacies - the successful applicant will be adept at building relationships and comfortable offering compassionate guidance to potential donors. Evidence of being a credible, clear communicator will be key and copywriting and creative design skills a huge bonus. Philanthropy & Partnerships (P&P) plays a key role in the Fundraising Division. P&P looks to identify, develop and sustain bespoke partnerships, putting our high value audience front and centre, to drive income, awareness and influence for Marie Curie's mission. P&P is responsible for raising £11million from our most generous high-value supporters, including individuals, charitable trusts, companies, statutory sources and high-profile Special Events.
We are seeking a Special Events Lead to join our forward-thinking Special Events team who as part of P&P, create, manage and deliver an impactful and effective events programme consisting of more than 10 exclusive events per year. These cumulatively raise over £2 million with an ambition to significantly grow income over the next five years. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Events Manager working in a busy, high-pressure environment, working on multiple events at different stages of planning.
As a member of the Special Events fundraising team, the successful candidate will be responsible for creating, managing and delivering a portfolio of high value committee and corporate led special events. This is a key role which underpins everything that the team does to raise income, influence and awareness and supports the wider P&P vision.
The ideal candidate will be a strong operational Events Manager with extensive, experience of having organised multiple high-profile events.
Additional Criteria for Success:
- Demonstrable project management experience. With ability to set and monitor budgets.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work well under pressure, to prioritise activities, focus on details and meet multiple competing deadlines in a complex environment.
- Ability to influence others with communication skills - both written and verbal. Adept at building relationships with diverse teams and working collaboratively with co-workers, volunteers and donors.
- High level of IT literacy including familiarity with web search engines, plus an up-to-date knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Results orientated with a proactive attitude, positive outlook, high level of energy, enthusiasm and dedication to the mission and goals of Marie Curie.

About the role
We are now seeking an experienced and qualified finance professional to take responsibility for the finance function of the charity and its trading subsidiary. The Finance Manager will work with the CEO to ensure the organisation has guidance and support on all matters relating to finance so that the charity and its trading subsidiary are always compliant and secure. Core Responsibilities
Financial Management:
· Day to day management of the organisation’s financial and administrational activities, ensuring that appropriate systems are in place to receive and make payments, and to monitor financial performance of both the charity and the trading subsidiary
· Invoicing and, where required, debt management processes
· Regular reconciliation of bank and other relevant accounts
· Design and implementation of appropriate financial procedures, ensuring they are followed at all times
· Preparation of monthly payroll data and submission to external provider
· Managing all relevant tax aspects for the charity, ensuring that tax is appropriately calculated, collected, reported and paid
· Ensuring appropriate policies are in place, and updating these as required
· Carrying out other financial management activities to meet the evolving needs of the organisation
Financial Monitoring:
· Monitoring and managing cash-flow
· Monitoring financial performance of individual divisions
Financial Reporting and Budgeting:
· Preparation of monthly management accounts for both the charity and trading subsidiary and other financial analysis required by the CEO or Board of Trustees
· Preparing and supporting the independent verification/audit of annual accounts and any other financial reporting required to meet our obligations to the Charity Commission & Companies House
· Preparation and agreement of the annual budget and any required re-forecasts throughout the financial year
· Preparation of ad hoc financial analysis as required by the CEO or Board of Trustees
Procurement:
· Procurement and management of services and consumables required to support the organisation
Grant Administration:
· Overseeing the administration of grants and contracts, including ensuring eligibility of participants, submitting claims and other data required by funders, invoicing and budget monitoring, ensuring that all deadlines are met
· Supporting fundraising efforts, including preparing budgets for proposals
· Supporting the CEO to develop financial strategies for the organisation
General Administration / Other:
· Monitoring developments in financial regulations affecting the Garden, and ensuring processes / procedures are updated as required
