Main purpose of post
This role will lead the HR function of the charity, overseeing all aspects of day-to-day HR. You will be responsible for the end-to-end employee lifecycle processes including recruitment, onboarding, performance cycle co-ordination, talent development and off-boarding. You will support a culture of compassion, belonging and learning and development, so we can attract and retain the best people. Key Responsibilities
· Oversee and deliver end-to-end employee lifecycle processes including recruitment, onboarding, performance cycle co-ordination, talent development and off-boarding.
· Manage HR operations tasks in accordance with Employment law, e.g. HR policy updates and effective management of employee relations cases, with the support of external HR legal advisors
· Manage the evolution of Total Rewards (Employee Value Proposition) incl. benefits, career growth, reward & recognition and L&D.
· Champion and coordinate L&D for individual employees and wider staff initiatives e.g. training needs analysis, engaging training providers, arranging all staff aways days and training sessions
· Lead the staff survey with the support of an external coach, working with the CEO to implement feedback and learning
· Lead the Wellbeing working group to support employee engagement, making best use of the Employee Assistance programme and other support initiatives

· Work with the Head of Finance and Resources to produce payroll monthly and to calculate annual pay awards

People’s Economy aims to build the agency and power of people facing injustice and working for social change so that they have the expertise, capabilities and resources to develop their own analysis of how the economic system is a root cause of the injustice they face, develop strategies to change it and then take action with others. Our vision is for a world with economies that meet the needs and priorities of people currently experiencing economic injustice.
The Movement Collaboration Lead or Senior Movement Collaboration Lead (depending on experience) will work closely with the Programme Director and the Programme Team to lead the development and delivery of an exciting emerging programme of work building collaboration for economic system change between grassroots groups and new economy organisations.
We are looking for people who are: passionate about addressing economic injustice, are excited about the role of collaboration in creating systems change and capable of creating partnerships and strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
The first twelve months of this programme will take an action inquiry approach to facilitate a mixed group of new economy organisations and grassroots groups through a collaborative process that will develop shared knowledge and practice about how we can effectively and equitably collaborate on economic systems change work through practical experiments, facilitated dialogue and collaborative research.
The role will involve responsibilities for project managing and delivering this work including programme development and delivery, developing partnerships, changemaker recruitment and support, conducting desk research and interviews, managing and running events, supporting project related fundraising, conducting project learning and evaluation and writing a learning report about the project.
Following this first year we plan to scale work on supporting collaboration between grassroots groups and new economy organisations, subject to funding we hope this could become a permanent role.

- Working closely with the Programme Director and the Programme Team, lead the translation of existing strategic thinking, planning and relationship building into a project plan.

The Role
Head of Social Impact
This role will report to the strategy and partnerships director and will work closely with the research and policy director and political director, as well as other members of the senior management team, heads of teams and the wider staff.

Ensuring social impact is considered across our work
- Maintain Green Alliance’s reputation as a respected thought leader on climate and nature issues by leading and supporting the development and delivery of high quality strategies to secure impact in the environmental / health policy intersection. This may include research and policy development, political advocacy strategies and communications work.
- Advise colleagues on the narratives, framings and relationships that we should build in order to further our goals and use skills and experience to help build these. Use your networks to help us land our work with impact involving the right partners.
- Work with theme leads and the senior management team to design research plans that will ensure we are considering the distributional and other impacts our policy recommendations would have for different parts of society.

Job Profile
The leadership and Governance Officer is a key role that enables CAFOD’s Leadership (the Executive Team) and Governance (the Board of trustees) teams to fulfil their remits well through sound administration, organisation, and relationship-building skills.
The post sits at the centre of CAFOD and will have a broad overview of key issues affecting CAFOD’s work and the management mechanisms in place to address them. The post holder will have proven experience in providing sound administrative and organisational support at a board/senior management level. This includes excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to interact across different cultural settings. They will have experience in setting meeting agendas, following up on key actions and experience in forward planning with excellent project management skills to support the Board of Trustees.
The post holder will ensure:
- That the governance of meetings and functions in CAFOD (Board of Trustees and relevant committees) are well planned, effective and documented transparently.
- That governance reporting requirements are fulfilled to a high quality and in a timely fashion. This includes minute-taking, serious incident reporting and follow-up actions.
- That they keep abreast of changes in the governance environment and ensure CAFOD is following charity commission regulations appropriately, engaging with relevant Directors accordingly.
- That key stakeholders receive a high-quality service from the small Directorate team. This includes CAFOD colleagues and supporters, Trustees, Catholic Church officials and members of the public.
The role is part of the Governance Team, which has a broad, cross-organisational remit, working closely with CAFOD’s Directors.
The post holder will also manage the Leadership and Governance Assistant who provides direct support to CAFOD’s Executive Director and Executive Team. Line management of this post holder is provided by the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
Ensuring effective Governance (60%)
- Acting as Secretary to the Trustees and Committees, ensuring that the annual meeting cycle (Governance Calendar) is followed, records of meetings are kept and that external submissions (e.g. the annual report, serious incidents, and other reporting) take place in a timely manner.
- Ensuring Trustee and Trustee committee meetings are well-planned (dates, papers, agendas, attendance, etc.) and well-run (including guidance for Chair, minuting, follow-up, action tracking, etc) and that follow up actions are monitored and undertaken.
- Liaise with Trustees on governance matters, including due diligence requests, and events, planning a schedule of Trustee travel to international programmes.
- Overseeing the recruitment and induction of trustees to CAFOD’s Board and coordinating their on-going training and development in conjunction with the Governance Lead Trustee.
- Manage the policy review processes and document management with support from the Leadership and Governance Assistant.
- Ensuring relevant policies come to the Board of Trustees for review in line with the schedule of reporting as outlined in the Governance Calendar. The meeting calendar dates are reviewed on an annual basis in October (so next review is October 2025).
- To be responsible for CAFOD Trustee’s Annual Report being produced in a timely and accurate way, commissioning a consultant.
- Liaising with the Executive Members regarding governance matters ensuring that they are able to provide relevant and accessible information in a timely manner.
- Assist with the communication of CAFOD’s governance work with key donors, supporters and other stakeholders.
- Working with the Governance Lead Trustee to implement any necessary improvements in CAFOD’s governance mechanisms.
Ensuring the effective running of the Executive Team (25%)
- Providing strategic guidance on governance issues and support to CAFOD’s Trustees and Leadership Team.

- When required monitoring the ED inbox, ensuring that requests are followed up and that communications are drafted and signed off, as necessary.

- Working closely with the Programme Director and the Programme Team, lead the translation of People’s Economy’s strategy into a programme of work in Birmingham
- Working closely with the Programme Director and the Programme Team, identify the resources People’s Economy needs to deliver its strategy in Birmingham and contribute to fundraising for the organisation’s programme of work in Birmingham
- Working closely with Programme Director lead outreach and relationship building with community and civil society partners, including members of the Economic Justice Brum
- Working closely with the Head of Community, lead the development of People’s Economy’s programme of outreach and relationship building with changemakers in Birmingham including current grassroots campaigns such as Save Birmingham, Save Birmingham Youth Service (SBYS), Ladywood Unite, Save Druids Heath and the Birmingham Fair Housing Campaign.
Birmingham Programme Delivery
- Working closely with the Programme Team, coordinate the delivery of People’s Economy’s programme of work in Birmingham and ensure it is well embedded, integrated and supportive in the local economic justice landscape
- Play a leading role in our collaborative work with Economic Justice Brum ensuring consistent coordination, support and relational working
- Lead our work on developing and delivering a creative communications plan for Economic Justice Brum, as People’s Economy is its appointed communications partner
- Lead on organising the logistics and resources required to effectively deliver People’s Economy’s programme of work in Birmingham
- Working closely with the Programme Team, coordinate the monitoring, evaluation and learning of People’s Economy’s programme of work in Birmingham
- Working closely with the Programme Team, recruit and onboard changemakers from Birmingham to opportunities within People’s Economy’s training and support programmes
- With support from the Head of Training, contribute to the delivery of learning and skills sessions when appropriate
- Facilitate spaces and workshops for our changemakers, partners and other stakeholders
- Maintain relationships with changemakers from Birmingham while they are involved in People’s Economy’s programmes and act as a key point of contact
Supporting other work strands
- Feed into the development and implementation of other work strands including community building and the organisational communications strategy
Managing projects and people
- Work with the Head of People and Operations to recruit freelancers to help deliver People’s Economy’s programme work in Birmingham
- Line manage freelancers contributing to People’s Economy’s programme of work in Birmingham, and any staff roles which (in future) report to Programme Manager Birmingham
- Manage (or contribute to) non-programme projects that contribute to achieving People’s Economy’s goals, as agreed with the Programme Director
- Work collaboratively with the Programme Team to ensure a joined-up approach across People’s Economy’s work Financial management and income generation
- With support from the Programme Director, develop and manage budgets for programme work in Birmingham
- With support from the Programme Director, contribute to income generation by leading the development of agreed identified opportunities, including by holding key relationships with existing and potential funders
