Essential

Fully literate in understanding and reading a set of accounts prepared under Charity SORP (FRS 102).

About the role

You’ll oversee the financial health of the charity and ensure the financial literacy of the organisation at Board level.

Advise on all financial matters including regulatory compliance and keeping up to date with updates from the Charity Commission. Communicating any changes to the Trustee Board and Directors.

Attendance at webinars and keeping up to date with research and developments relevant to the charity and industry in general.

Lead review of the annual budget and cash flow working closely with the Directors.

Oversee the development and observation of financial policies, including financial risks.

Annual review of accounts prepared by the independent examiner, including input to the annual report.

Oversight of all financial transactions and cash flow management, including monitoring levels of unrestricted funds.

We value your time. Our Trustee Board meets six times a year (including two strategy days), with four meetings a year usually taking place in London. You will also be a member of our Audit & Risk and Resources sub-committees, which meet four times a year.

Time commitment, events and meetings
In addition to bi-monthly trustee meetings, which usually take place virtually and in the evening (though a few times per year these will be in person or hybrid meetings for which reasonable expenses will of course be paid), there will be additional time and involvement required to undertake these roles effectively. The role of chair in particular would suit someone who wants to give several hours of their time per week.

This includes reviewing budgets, forecasts and management accounts, as well as the overarching strategic management of the organisation’s financial resources. You would be expected to constructively challenge the figures presented to enable greater transparency and accountability to improve the allocation of resources and the charity’s image in order to build the charity and its financial resilience.
Typically you will not be asked to dedicate more than a total of 4 hours per month which are largely at your discretion.

About Safe Passage International
Safe Passage International (SPI) is a charity that champions the rights of people seeking asylum and displaced people as they flee persecution. We use the law to help them access safe routes to a place of safety and we work alongside them to campaign for change and build public support for safe passage for all.
We have a particular focus on supporting unaccompanied children and young people to reunite with family and reach protection in Europe, although we also work with adults and family groups too.
We are based in the UK, with small offices also in France and Greece. These offices are locally registered not for profit companies who are part of Safe Passage International, overseen by the international UK Board of Trustees.
Safe Passage International advances its mission through five main strands of work:
- providing legal advice to asylum-seekers and their family members to help them be safely and legally reunited;
- holding governments and decision-makers to account on their legal obligations to people seeking asylum;
- campaigning and advocacy with policy makers in Government, Parliament, and other authorities to provide safe and legal routes for people seeking asylum;
- helping young people seeking asylum to settle upon arrival and working with them to campaign on issues that they are passionate about;

About our Board of Trustees
Joining the Safe Passage International Board means playing a leading role in a charity that supports people seeking asylum to access safe routes and reunite with family. By contributing your skills and perspective, you have the opportunity to support them to find safety.
SPI is run by a Board of Directors known as Trustees. The Trustees work on a voluntary basis to uphold the core purpose of the charity, set its strategy, and protect its reputation. They are also responsible for overseeing the charity’s finances and ensuring that the charity’s activities fulfil its aims and are in line with charitable rules and regulations.
SPI’s existing Board currently has ten Trustees who between them have expertise by experience and / or knowledge and experience in the areas of safeguarding and casework, campaigning and advocacy, EU policies and law, finance, HR, leadership development, public policy, and governance.
It is very important that the Board’s decision-making is informed by the perspectives of people seeking asylum. We value the powerful insight that lived experience brings to the Board. We also respect that people’s identity is not defined by their past experiences and do not expect candidates to describe their lived experience during the interview process unless they wish to.

What is a Trustee at Safe Passage International expected to do?
The overriding duty of all charity trustees is to advance the purposes of their charity as well as several basic legal duties. You can find out more about Trustees’ legal responsibilities here.
As a new Trustee, you will be a full and equal Board member. The Board of Trustees works closely with the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team of Safe Passage International to achieve its mission, and is responsible for providing support, guidance, and decisions in the following areas:
- Leadership: appointing the Chief Executive, supporting them in their role and holding them accountable.
- Accountability: ensuring that Safe Passage International is transparent and accountable to the public, our beneficiaries, and our donors about the way we carry out our mission and the way we spend the funds our supporters entrust to us.
- Strategic thinking: helping the charity to set goals and objectives, and work towards achieving them.
- Financial Oversight: including a formal review of the charity’s annual budget and supporting the Senior Leadership Team in financial management and organisation.
- Fundraising: including helping the charity to gain access to potential donors and supporters and providing general advice on areas of fundraising.
- Guidance and Support: including advising, where appropriate, the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team in areas such as employee management, strategic choices, and legal requirements.
Time Commitment and Expectations: If selected to join Safe Passage Internationals Board of Trustees, you will be expected to:
- Attend a range of training sessions prior to your first board meeting
- Attend 4 Board Meetings per year, plus one Strategy Day (in person where possible, otherwise electronically).
- Read required Board documents before each meeting and be ready to ask questions and actively contribute to the Board’s discussion
- If requested, ad-hoc meetings on particular subjects
- Join a sub-committee to contribute to a specific area
- Attend occasional meetings with members of the public, for example with Safe Passage International’s supporters, or with politicians and policymakers
- Be an ambassador for the charity and for young people seeking asylum
- Collaborate and work with Safe Passage International’s staff as required. The successful appointee will be required to apply for an enhanced DBS or criminal record check, but a criminal record is not necessarily a barrier to being appointed to this role.
Safe Passage International’s Board members are appointed for a term of three years, which can be renewed. Throughout your time as a Trustee, we are committed to supporting your growth and offer access to relevant courses and development opportunities to help you build your skills and maximise your impact
Like all other charities, Safe Passage International’s Board members are volunteers. The role is therefore unpaid. However, SPI will pay for your travel to meetings and other necessary expenses.

MUSLIM VOLUNTEER MENTOR
Can you offer your support to a young person via mentoring?
FCCT are looking for volunteers to play a supportive role by actively mentoring young offenders (aged 15-21 in HMP/YOI Feltham) and to offer support under the ‘7 pathways to Reducing Reoffending’:
FCCT offer support under the seven pathways to reducing reoffending including signposting to relevant organisations:
- Accommodation
- Education, Training and Employment (ETE)
- Health
- Drug and Alcohol Misuse
- Finance, Benefits and Debts
- Children & Families
- Attitudes, Thinking and Behaviour.
Our aim is to help young people overcome hardships and make the positive transition back into wider society and to help to reduce reoffending rates.
Scope of Volunteer Main Role and Duties (not exhaustive):
Mentoring Arm:
- Work through a ‘Discharge List’ systematically, cross referencing with the Operations Manager, so as not to duplicate any work or contact with the young people (primarily of Muslim faith).
- Hand out and (where needed) help complete ‘Survey Questionnaires’ given to young people from the ‘Discharge List’, in order to ascertain what type of job or education sector the young person would be interested in going into. Forms to be given to the Operations Manager afterwards.
- Follow up with a one-to-one session – register the young person to the FCCT programme and completing relevant paperwork, which will include our ‘Client Profile Form’ and ‘Consent Form’.
- Update a shared ‘Client Spreadsheet’ which will be used to capture data information, as to the young people that FCCT are engaging with.
- Identify relevant Mosques etc for the young people to attend post release and contact said religious establishments, to understand their referral criteria and then make relevant referrals, where required.
- Collect testimonials from the young people in relation to the support FCCT have offered them.
- Mentoring of young people
- Make or facilitate family contacts for resettlement purposes, in relation to the young people.
We are looking for individuals who demonstrate the following attributes:
- Commitment: Shows commitment to the organisation, its values and its clients, understanding that the building of trust and consistency is key, in terms of the clientele FCCT work with.
- Communication: Communicates well both verbally and in writing. An ability to communicate effectively with young people would also be an added benefit.

Training and Support
We will provide all the necessary training. Training will be provided on an ongoing basis and volunteers will be given a full induction of the organisation and how the projects run. Volunteer expenses will be paid.
Time Required
FCCT ask for a minimum of 8 hours a month. Due to the flexibility of the role, the hours can be distributed over different days between the core hours of 9am - 5pm, including Sundays.

Social Anxiety Alliance UK is a young and developing charity looking for an experienced Treasurer with a background in financial management and accounting who can also help us to find funding and grants to continue the charity's development. The Treasurer will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial administration of the charity and will have a good understanding of charity finance and potential funding/grant awarding bodies. All trustees must have integrity and commitment and align with the values and aims of Womankind.

Skills and Person Specification:
Womankind is currently seeking Trustees that bring experience with intersectional feminism, gender justice, and/or women’s rights work within South Asia, including strong connections to feminist movements and organisations in the region.
Previous experience on a charity board – or engaging with a board in a leadership position – is advantageous, but not required.
Any skills or experience in the following areas would be useful to indicate in your letter of interest but are neither necessary nor required: grant-making; advocacy and policy engagement; fundraising; communications; human resources management; finance and accounting; risk management; UK charity law; and organisational development, including decolonising practice.
Time commitment:
The Board typically meets four times a year, with all Trustees expected to participate in scheduled Board Meetings. These meetings are virtual or hybrid, with one all day In-person meeting held per year. This is usually held in London, with Womankind facilitating and paying for in-person attendance.
The Finance & Resources Sub-Committee (FRC) meets an additional four to five times per year. The Treasurer chairs FRC meetings. Trustees with financial management, risk management and human resource management skills and experience are encouraged to join FRC.
In addition, Trustees are expected to assist with relevant matters between meetings, for example strategic planning or fundraising activities, and to participate in working groups dedicated to specific issues, particularly where this aligns with the Trustee’s area of interest and experience.
Salary:
This is an unpaid voluntary position. Reasonable travel expenses, including required travel from international home locations, are covered, in line with Womankind’s travel policy.

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. MAP is the leading UK charity delivering health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation, and displacement in the occupied Palestinian territory and Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
Job Purpose
Medical Aid for Palestinians is seeking to appoint at least two, and up to four, additional Trustees, one of whom is to be appointed as Chair-designate.
The Trustees are the governing body of MAP and are, collectively and personally, ultimately responsible for all the charity’s activities. MAP is a company limited by guarantee, so the Trustees are also the legal Directors of the charitable company.
Trustees are responsible for providing appropriate oversight, governance and strategic leadership to MAP in the pursuit of its charitable purposes.

Terms and Conditions
Duration
The Trustee will be appointed to serve for an initial term of three years. At the end of the initial term, the Trustee will be eligible to be re-appointed for up to two further three-year terms.
Location
There are no requirements regarding a Trustee’s location. MAP’s head office is in Central London. Trustees are encouraged to attend meetings in person, but if this is not possible, videoconference facilities are provided.
Remuneration
The role of the Trustee is a voluntary one and is therefore unpaid. However, MAP will reimburse all out-of-pocket expenses reasonably incurred by the Trustee in the course of their duties.
Time Commitment
Immediately following an appointment, MAP will agree on a personalised induction plan. The time commitment for this plan will depend partly on the Trustee’s prior knowledge and experience.
MAP hold a minimum of four board meetings a year, conducted on a hybrid basis as noted above. These normally last between three and four hours including a break. There is usually also one full-day session per year dedicated to strategic planning, for which attendance in person is highly desirable.
The Trustee will be expected to join one of the sub-committees of the board. Sub-committee meetings are also held four times a year, on a hybrid basis, and normally last around two hours.
In addition to preparing for and attending meetings, the Trustee will be expected to participate in routine governance activities such as training, appraisals, and recruitment or exit interviews.
Ordinarily, the above commitments would entail between one and two days per month. Applicants are advised that, since the events of October 2023, MAP’s activities have expanded enormously and some of the current Trustees have been contributing significantly more time than this.
