The Royal Scottish Forestry Society, formed in 1854, is an educational charity focussing on promoting the understanding of trees, woods and forestry.
Every year RSFS puts on what we believe to be the most extensive programme of practical forestry events across Scotland. The Society has published a semi-academic journal, Scottish Forestry, since 1858 promoting all aspects of good practice in forestry.
Having agreed a refreshed strategy in 2023, RSFS is now looking to increase its delivery resource. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for Scotland’s trees and forests to develop closer links with members, partners and stakeholders. Your experience in operational delivery will allow us to improve our practices and professionalise our delivery to secure a sustainable future for the RSFS.
Who we are looking for
You will be a personable, dynamic self-starter, used to being the first point of contact within the organisation. As RSFS is a virtual organisation, you must be highly-organised and able to work independently contributing to the overall team outcomes.
The principal functions of the role will be to support the Board in advancing its mission and representing RSFS to members and the community:
- Support our five Regions in planning and delivery of Regional Field Days and the Annual Study Tour;
- Manage the definition, planning and delivery of paid training events;
- Maintain links with members, partners, stakeholders and sector organisations;
- Develop and promote membership of the Society to a broad and relevant constituency;
- Evaluate and implement procedures for RSFS, and as appropriate for Cashel Forest Trust;
- Ensure, in conjunction with our Secretariat, that RSFS remains in compliance with prevailing laws and regulations; and
- Other duties as required by the role.
Outline terms and conditions
- The role is for 21 hours per week;
- A full-time equivalent salary of £45,000 to £55,000, pro rated for the contracted hours, to be agreed depending on experience;

Emmaus Oxford is looking for a Charity retail Deputy Store Manager to join our retail management team running our large charity superstore in Cowley Oxford. Emmaus provides housing support and meaning occupation in our social enterprise to up to 28 ex-homeless men and women [known in Emmaus as Companions]. As well as providing retail management the role also involves coaching and training companions and working closely with our team of Progression Workers and Learning & Development Manager. Emmaus collects donations of furniture and household goods from across Oxfordshire and these are sold in our superstore in Cowley and through our online sales business. Proceeds from sales make a major contribution towards our housing & support service. The role is Fulltime [37.5 hr per week] will involve some weekend working and key holding responsibility. As Director of Research, you will work closely with our CEO and will be responsible for:
- horizon scanning and landscape reviews to deliver our research strategy and ensure its continued relevance.
- research funding competitions to deliver at least £5m new research per annum.

We are looking for candidates with:
- significant experience working in a biomedical sciences research/funding environment.
- significant experience of research funding competitions, peer review, and grant management.
- experience of the evaluation of research outputs and impact.
- experience of motivating and managing a team.
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to evidence relationship building with senior stakeholders and acting as an organisational representative.
- a PhD in biomedical sciences or a degree in biological sciences (or equivalent experience) with extensive experience working in a biomedical sciences funding environment.

You will have a few key aspects to your work:

Own and organise the Insiders group. This will include seeking new members to expand our Insider group, while retaining current members by ensuring meetings and work are relevant, interesting and beneficial for members;

Work with partners to turn insider insights into campaigns to influence change within the sector;

Help plan and deliver the UK’s first ‘Insider Summit’ where we bring together people doing insider work across a range of industries and forms;

Seed and support new insider groups;

Build relationships with potential funders and pitch for further core or project-related funding;

As part of its activities as a registered charity there is a public programme of art and historical exhibitions, and cultural and community events. These are made possible by a busy schedule of private/commercial and public hire, being a popular venue for weddings, parties, filming, lectures and talks, well-being classes etc.
As Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overall efficient and smooth House management operations, front of house and behind the scenes. This includes premises inspection and oversight, facilities management and maintenance, security, health and safety, fire safety etc. Working closely with the Director, you will develop special infrastructure improvement projects and identify contractors, consultants, costings and quotes. The role is also responsible for Visitor Experience operations and Volunteer management - optimising visitor experience and relationships, and ensuring appropriate House appearance.
The successful candidate will have experience in operational management in a similar organisation, or with clearly transferable skills and an understanding and workplace experience of physical building infrastructure management. Experience with visitor services management and its basic principles is key, alongside experience of developing and managing planned maintenance and minor works contracts, and some hands on maintenance where possible. Knowledge of Health and Safety, fire safety, security, emergency planning management is a must and either knowledge of am interest in historic building conservation (and wider arts and heritage), and environmental sustainability is essential.

Overall purpose of the job
The River Engagement and Education Officer will become a valued member of our small, friendly, and highly dedicated Community Engagement and Education Team. In this role, you will help organise river-related activities aimed at inspiring individuals and empowering them to take action for their rivers.
You will be actively involved in the catchment area, supporting volunteer initiatives, conducting school sessions, and assisting with community workshops. Your role will include facilitating enjoyable and memorable experiences through challenges, games, and experiments, allowing participants to explore their river environments and appreciate the benefits of being close to nature.
Additionally, you will encourage individuals to develop new skills by engaging in conservation activities such as river clean-ups, citizen science water quality monitoring, and wildlife surveys.

Travel and Schedule Requirements
This position will be based at the home address of the appointed employee, with regular use of the Trust’s desk space in Bristol. The post holder will be required to travel frequently throughout the Bristol Avon catchment for meetings, site visits, community and school events, and more. A full, current UK driving license and daily access to a vehicle covered by business insurance are essential for this role.
To minimise travel time and reduce carbon emissions, we prefer candidates who live within the catchment area. Mileage costs will be reimbursed. Additionally, this position may occasionally require working evenings, weekends, and public holidays to fulfil the responsibilities of the role. The Trust operates a time-off in lieu system.
Role Purpose
This role will be pivotal in the Trust’s expansion of its community engagement and education work packages – a key strand of the Trust’s 5-year strategy (coming soon).
The role will include the following aspects:
Community Engagement Activities
Assist with delivery of our established community engagement programmes, including:
- Assisting in the execution of practical conservation activities for volunteers, including litter picks, vegetation management, and tree planting.
- Leading on written / graphic communications such as social media posts, website articles and press releases.
- Training and supporting volunteers in citizen science monitoring, such as wildlife surveys and water quality testing.
- Leading educational sessions for schools, including assemblies, in-class workshops, and site visits to the river.

About the role
Working closely with our campaigners and other teams, our Global Content Editor will ensure that editorial content on Compassion’s international website is engaging, impactful, and reaching the right audiences to help drive our mission to end factory farming. They will also write, edit and proofread longer texts produced to further our international campaigns and policy work, such as the powerful campaign reports we release, and write/edit copy for a range of channels including mainstream and social media. The successful candidate will also lead on improving SEO across our websites, rolling out shared content to our national websites, and developing and maintaining a writing style guide.

This post requires exceptional writing and editing skills with strong experience of producing high-quality copy for a diverse range of channels, including websites, annual reports, news stories, as well as social media content. We are looking for a Grants Manager with either direct experience of working in the health sector in Pakistan or are fluent French speakers with experience of working in West and Central Africa. About the role
The Global Communications Officer will help boost Compassion’s international media profile and campaigns through traditional media, social media, and other communication channels. You will generate international media coverage, use breaking stories to drive our campaigns and polices, sell-in stories, produce content across a range of channels, and be responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of our global media coverage. You will also help support the coordination of the media work in our country offices and take part in our out-of-hours on-call rota.

This role will see you support an established, enjoyable, professional development programme for city farms, community gardens and care farms. In London you'll focus on training and showcase events, and nationwide you'll lead on helping organisations achieve the Green Care Quality Mark. The role will suit someone creative, methodical and comfortable with people. The role involves getting out and about, but most of the work is office work. This role does not include any practical gardening or farming activities.
Hours: Full time days (37.5 hours) per week. Or four days a week (30 hours) if preferred.
Salary: Starting salary of £31,580 including London Weighting.
Pension: 5% of salary for standard contracted hours after successful completion of a 3-month probation period.
Holiday: 33 days annual leave per year including bank holidays.

This is a well-established, popular enjoyable programme and you would work closely with the London Development Manager, and SF&Gs members. Annual outputs include:

b) Green Care Quality Mark (GCQM) Administration - 1.5 days a week
To support the UK-Wide GCQM programme liaising with our panel of Assessors, assigning applications for review and inputting data into our ‘Civi’ CRM.
The programme helps green care practitioners such as care farms demonstrate to clients, funders, commissioners, referrers and volunteers that they operate a safe, professional and caring place to be.
The post holder will be responsible for administration and promotion of the GCQM, and supported by managers to retain participants of the scheme, attract new enrolments, and increase the associated earned income for SF&G.
c) SF&G Membership Support.
A half day a week will be dedicated to supporting SF&Gs UK- wide membership programme through social media, newsletters and database management.

About the role

In partnership with the Centre for Public Impact with support from the Google AI Opportunity Fund, Media Trust is launching a pioneering new programme and we're looking for an experienced programme manager to lead on its delivery.
You will be empowering charities and under-represented creative talent, helping them gain AI skills to bridge the growing AI divide and prevent marginalised communities from being further excluded or disadvantaged.
The programme will provide AI essentials training to two of Media Trust’s key beneficiary stakeholder groups: (i) small charities advocating for and supporting marginalised communities, and (ii) talent from under-represented backgrounds working, or aspiring to work, in the media and creative industries.
The programme is funded by Centre for Public Impact with support from the Google AI Opportunity Fund and we'll delivering free bespoke AI training developed by Google and external partners.
You will be responsible for designing the delivery calendar and managing the launch and delivery of this ambitious programme, which will run from January to December 2025. You will also manage the MEL (measurement, evaluation and learning) processes for the programme and produce a quarterly progress report for the programme funder.
You will provide insights and learning from the programme to help Media Trust design new AI-related and other digital skills training programmes for charities and/or creative talent from under-represented backgrounds.

As Volunteering Leader you will report directly to the Area Operations Manager, and work closely with not only volunteers, but operational team colleagues across the North West team as you plan, assist, deliver and manage successful volunteer activities and events in 2024 and beyond.
