Volunteer Helpline Advisor – Role Description
Purpose of role:
As a Volunteer Helpline Advisor, responding to Helpline enquiries from parents and carers, you will be playing a part in helping ERIC to achieve its key goal of reaching even more families.
You will work remotely, with equipment and training provided.
If you are passionate about helping to improve the lives of families whose children are affected by continence issues, and can commit your time on a regular basis, we’d love to hear from you.
Terms:
Due to the nature of the work, our helpline volunteers are continence nurses or qualified healthcare professsionals.Volunteer sessions are a full day of 5 hours, on the same day each week, please note that currently we need more volunteers on Mondays & Tuesdays only. We ask volunteers to commit to this regular weekly pattern, ideally for a period of one year or more. This helps to maintain consistency and a high standard of professional practice.
Expenses may be paid, subject to agreement in advance .

The Open Age reception team builds the personal relationships that make our visitors feel comfortable and relaxed while we inform them of the activities we offer, help them select and book onto those that suit them best, and assist with the practical, ongoing event support that gives people a great customer experience. This is a frontline customer facing role which would suit a confident, approachable person, with good interpersonal skills and an awareness of the importance of providing great customer service to build positive relationships with our local community.
Reception Volunteer Role
· Support and strengthen Open Age reception team to provide a high-quality customer service experience to center visitors, members and potential volunteers.
· Provide relevant, current, information that informs customer choices and helps secure appropriate courses, events and activity bookings.
· Identify any improvable gaps in Open Age reception customer service and make positive suggestions for improvements to the wider staff reception team.
Reception Volunteer Tasks
· Greet members and drop-in visitors warmly, courteously and in a way that settles any anxiety or confusion on arrival at reception.
· Provide information and publications about upcoming activities and events, giving directions to venues and classes where needed.
· Assist staff in setting up rooms and providing refreshments for members when needed.
· Answer telephone and email enquiries in a prompt and courteous manner, and follow up members by phone and email to update them on any course changes and developments.
The Open Age Reception Volunteer is an unpaid, voluntary role, though any appropriate out-of-pocket expenses, including travel and subsistence will be reimbursed on production of the appropriate receipts. All volunteers receive an induction to the organisation, relevant training in the volunteer role and a volunteering reference after an appropriate period of satisfactory volunteering.
This role is an opportunity to get experience of working in a busy office environment supporting a legal advice service. Through providing vital administrative support, responding to enquiries, arranging client meetings and coordinating interpreters, you will help our expert legal advisers to deliver specialist legal advice and representation to refugees and survivors in complex cases. Through this role, you will get experience of working in a legal advice organisation and an understanding of its administrative and support needs. As the role develops, there may also be the opportunity to gain basic knowledge of Legal Aid procedures and client care.
Main tasks and activities
· Providing general administrative support such as copying, scanning, filing documents, data entry and generating reports from client databases;
· Basic reception duties including answering the phone, taking messages, opening and distributing post, and monitoring our email inboxes;
· Maintaining signposting list and providing information about alternative services where we cannot assist;
· Booking client appointments and interpreters, and maintaining interpreter register;
· Assisting the Legal Administrator and/or Billing Coordinator with preparing files for billing or transfer to another provider.
Skills and experience needed
· Understanding of, and commitment to, the objectives of Asylum Aid;
· A demonstrable empathy for our vulnerable clients, including asylum seekers, refugees and survivors of torture and trafficking;
· Punctual, reliable and self-motivated with a positive, ’can-do’ attitude;
· Basic understanding of the challenges facing our clients and of the UK asylum system
· High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
· Experience of working with spreadsheet computer programs (e.g. Excel) and databases
· Confidence with IT skills

What will you be doing?
Our Board combines their skills and experience to provide stewardship to Gingerbread and its staff.
The role of Treasurer is to enable the board to maintain an overview of Gingerbread’s affairs, ensure its financial viability and ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.
Trustees generally meet for full Board meetings a minimum of five times a year. Each of these meetings is two hours long. Trustees would need to allow for preparation time ahead of these meetings. We estimate there would be 2 hours of work a month outside of Board meetings.

The Treasurer should have the following qualities:

· Some experience of charity finance, fundraising and pension schemes

The role of the Independent member is to provide the Safety Committee and the Movement with knowledge and experience for making key decisions. The role is pro bono, but reasonable expense will be paid in accordance with The Scout Association (TSA)’s Expenses Policy. The appointed candidate should expect to spend the equivalent of a day per quarter on The Scout Association’s work after the induction phase - this is based on preparation for and attendance at the scheduled Safety Committee meetings (four in each year, with the intention that two are held online and two face to face).
The Safety Committee reports directly to the Board of Trustees which has overall legal responsibility for TSA. The committee is Chaired by an external appointee who is a Trustee of the board. The safety committee comprises independent members with Health & Safety expertise across a range of sectors and members from the movement. The purpose of the committee is to hold to account those with responsibility for delivery of Health & Safety across Scouting.
Main responsibilities
The remit of the Committee is to support the Board of Trustees to fulfil its responsibilities in relation to Safety by:
1. providing vision and direction for consideration and endorsement by the Board (as required), by identifying and contributing to the development of safety policies, procedures and guidance;
2. ensuring that youth members, adult volunteers, parents and staff are engaged in contributing to the development of safety policies;
3. developing and overseeing a performance framework to ensure that safety policies, procedures and practice are monitored to provide assurance to the Board (relating to members, staff and service users) and use this management information to inform and drive improvements; monitoring the local and national implementation of safety policies and procedures to ensure practice is effective and consistently applied;
4. ensuring that appropriate connections are made with other areas of the Association’s work that may have an impact on safety (for example Adult Training by using incident data to highlight areas of success or concern);
5. ensuring that members receive appropriate support and communication to aid understanding of their responsibilities to enable Safe Scouting;
6. leading the process for Fatal Accident and/or Near Miss inquiries from commissioning through to completion;
7. reviewing and overseeing actions from inquiry reports (this should be in conjunction with the respective staff functions, particularly where there is specific policy, procedure and/or practice changes that need to be recommended for consideration by the Strategy and Delivery Committee and/or Board (as required);
8. identifying possible areas of development for the Association’s safety activities, taking into account relevant national agendas and learning from reviews whether this be external or internal to the Association.

Past or present membership of The Scout Association would be an advantage but is not an essential requirement.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and implement comprehensive PR strategies to boost the organisation's reputation and visibility.
- Cultivate relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure press coverage and interviews.
- Write captivating press releases, media pitches, and materials to convey key messages and announcements.
- Plan, execute, and evaluate marketing campaigns to promote events, programs, and fundraising initiatives.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all marketing materials.
- Craft compelling content for press releases, blog posts, social media, newsletters, and other marketing collateral.
- Develop engaging visuals, videos, and graphics to support marketing campaigns and storytelling efforts.
- Oversee the organisation's digital marketing channels, including website, social media, email, and online advertising.
- Monitor performance metrics and analytics to measure the effectiveness of digital marketing efforts.
- Develop promotional strategies and materials to drive attendance and participation in organisational events and activities.
- Develop and enforce brand guidelines to maintain brand identity and reputation.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and interview requests.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, communications, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in public relations, marketing, or communications, with a focus on non-profit organisations or social causes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and messages.

Responsibilities:
Actively contribute to the development and implementation of HR strategy in collaboration with the Chief People Officer, ensuring alignment with the charity’s mission and organisational goals.
Design and implement people-centric solutions to address key HR challenges, driving both strategic initiatives and practical, operational results.
Lead the development and execution of HR policies, ensuring they are in line with the organisation's objectives and reflect best practices in a volunteer-driven environment.
Manage and mentor a team of HR Managers and HR Business Partners, fostering their growth and ensuring they meet key deliverables.
Provide both high-level strategic support and hands-on, operational assistance when required, including driving recruitment, retention, L&D and engagement initiatives.
Serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief People Officer, offering strategic insights and designing solutions to resolve HR challenges and enhance organisational effectiveness.
Act as a key liaison between management and volunteers, addressing inquiries, escalating issues, and resolving work-related concerns with a solution-focused approach.
Produce and present insightful reports, surveys, and analytics to C-level Executives, delivering key HR metrics and analysis to inform decision-making.
The Head of HR reports directly to the Chief People Officer, working closely to set HR strategies, design solutions, and ensure the effective delivery of people initiatives across the charity.
You will have:
- At least 3 years' experience in an HR managerial position.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Though we do not require you to be a native English speaker, you must be Fluent in English.
- Ability to work within organisational targets.
- IT Literacy, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
- An understanding of HR-related processes and legislation.
- A CIPD qualification would be advantageous but is not essential depending on relevant experience.

Background to the role:
Keep Active is a volunteer-delivered project at The Creighton Centre, which aims to provide support to older people (60+) who have had a fall, stroke or other illness. We work in partnership with the NHS Community Rehabilitation Service across Hammersmith & Fulham. As a Keep Active Volunteer you would visit an older person (the average age is 84) once a week for up to nine weeks to help them with improving mobility indoors with exercises, or outdoors with walks in their community. This project aims to empower people to get back to independence, access community once more and reduce risks of future falls and hospital re-admittance.
Availability/commitment:
· To live in or near Hammersmith and Fulham, or travel regularly through
· To be able to spare 1-2 hours a week, preferably during working hours
Role of the Keep Active Volunteer:
· To attend an initial one-off training session [with Volunteer Coordinator and therapists from NHS rehabilitation teams].
· To visit an older person’s home once a week for up to 9 weeks to supervise and motivate them to continue practicing their exercise and walking goals, as prescribed by NHS rehabilitation teams.
· Support might include:
- A walk around their local community possibly going to the park or visiting shops.
- Encouraging them to complete a prescribed gentle exercise program.
- Keeping an older and sometimes isolated person company.
- Visiting someone in their homes to help them reach their exercise goals.
NB: Please note that this is a volunteer role and you will not be expected to provide any physical support. This is a motivational role only.
We will provide:
· Induction training and NHS Community Rehabilitation led training (weekday training).
· Regular contact and support from the project staff.
· Occasional social events for volunteers
· Occasional training opportunities for volunteers
· A reference after 3-6 months of volunteering with us
· An enhanced DBS check
· Reimbursement of travel expenses incurred during your volunteering
