We are seeking a Research Funding Officer (Research Impact) to work mainly on our Research Grant Programme. As part of our Research Funding team, you will support high quality and innovative research on the effects of diet, nutrition, physical activity, and body size on cancer prevention and survival, managing an international portfolio of projects and working closely with leading researchers around the world.

In addition to the Research Grant programme, you will have the opportunity to contribute to other Research Funding activities such as our Academy programme and work closely with colleagues across the Science department and with other departments such as PR & Editorial and Fundraising.

The Research Funding Officer (Research Impact) will work mainly on the post award phase (e.g. active monitoring of funded projects, liaison with our grant holders, supporting our Academy programme initiative and evaluation of the impact of our funded research).

You will have experience working in a fast-paced research environment, whether in academia or research administration/management. Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills are essential for engaging a diverse range of audiences. Additionally, you should possess a solid understanding of statistical analysis. A Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or Nutrition is required, while a Master’s degree is preferred but not essential. An interest in science communication and social media is also desirable.

The role:

• Providing sound financial advice and management to the Directorates. Including reviewing business cases, papers to Governance Committees and policy proposals, to ensure that the financial implications have been properly considered, are affordable and recommendations reflect good Value for Money.
• Presenting financial information to Senior Management Teams on a regular basis. Communicating complex financial issues to internal and external stakeholders, enabling individuals with little financial knowledge to understand key messages.
• Understanding the business - Developing a full understanding of the policies and cost drivers of the Directorates' spend ensuring they are managed and monitored effectively to meet business plans and objectives.
• Leading on month-end and year-end activities, working autonomously to ensure that the management information for your area of responsibility is accurate and correct.
• Challenging and supporting Directors and Budget Managers in managing spend on a portfolio basis. Recognising potential risk and opportunities and identifying solutions to manage them.
• Leading on financial planning and forecasting exercises, supporting and providing constructive challenge to business areas when identifying their funding requirements in-year and going forward. This will include working on significant fiscal events such as Spending Reviews.
• Building relationships with stakeholders across the business and in other support functions e.g. HR, commercial, to understand their needs and priorities.
• You will work with your Directorates and the wider finance team to promote and realise the benefits of our new ERP system.
• Managing two Management Accountants, with responsibility for leading, motivating and developing them.

The successful candidate will:

• Be a fully qualified Accountant.
• You'll be highly motivated and an effective organiser, which will allow you to work fluidly in a fast paced environment, remaining flexible at all times.
• Significant experience in communicating complex financial issues to enable individuals with little financial knowledge to understand the key messages.
• Significant experience of leading on financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Extensive experience of maintaining effective relationships to understand senior stakeholder/colleagues' needs and priorities
• Demonstrable experience of reviewing business cases and/or investment appraisal.
• Be a team player, with exceptional interpersonal skills, able to work with a diverse and broad range of stakeholders across the organisation. Demonstrable ability to influence.
• Have good written and oral communication skills, able to communicate clearly, concisely, accurately and in ways that promote understanding but stands ground when needed

Desirable criteria:

• An understanding of accounting policy and an appreciation of the implications for an organisation of Government legislation and accounting standards

• Provide email inbox management support to the Director of Network Delivery.

• Serve as the primary point of contact between executives and internal/external stakeholders.

• Prepare, review, and edit documents, reports, and presentations for meetings and events.

• Organise and maintain electronic and physical filing systems, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.

• Coordinate team meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action items.

Purpose of the job

 The Evaluation & Learning Manager will work closely with the Assistant Director of Research & Impact and internal/external colleagues.  The Impact Function will not evaluate programmes in isolation but rather help to build a cumulative knowledge base that proves and improves the impact of UK Youth’s activities and youth work more generally. Learning and knowledge management is a major component of this role and you will ensure that insights are easily understood and applied to have real world impact.

Experience we're after

• Significant experience of using quantitative and/or qualitative and/or mixed research methods to conduct evaluations of interventions in community settings

• Significant experience of managing projects and coordinating effectively with internal and external stakeholders

• Experience of working with large datasets and conducting descriptive and inferential data analysis

• Experience of using qualitative research methods with young people

• Experience of working with external research and/or evaluation partners

About the role:

In this role, you will provide essential administrative support to a specialised Cases Unit, playing a key part in its day-to-day functions. Your responsibilities will include managing and organising case documents, coordinating meetings, facilitating communication with legal teams, and assisting in casework activities. Your attention to detail and organisational skills will ensure the efficient operation of the unit, contributing to the overall success of its work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and improve the Unit's document management system to ensure efficient tracking, retrieval, and organisation of casework materials.
• Manage and update key logs, including Excel spreadsheets, to support ongoing Unit activities.
• Prepare and organise evidence bundles using the case management system, including redacting sensitive information for review by the Independent Decision-Making Body.
• Communicate with specific Inquiry staff and the Solicitor to the Inquiry on administrative and case-related matters as needed.
• Keep detailed records of all communications related to the Inquiry and ensure the Unit is regularly updated.
• Attend meetings with key stakeholders like the Legal Services Board and Solicitors Regulatory Authority, taking and distributing accurate notes.

• Schedule and organise meetings for the Unit, including internal meetings and external sessions with stakeholders.

The main purpose of the Partnerships Manager role is to lead on the delivery of first-class account management to a diverse portfolio of corporate partners, generating income to support Breaking Barriers’ work. Each partnership at Breaking Barriers is bespoke, comprising fundraising, skilled volunteering, awareness raising and, crucially, placement and job opportunities for our refugee clients.

Working closely with the wider Partnerships Management and Programmes teams, you will be responsible for launching new partnerships and retaining business by deepening relationships and identifying opportunities for growth.

The successful candidate will have experience managing corporate partner relationships, including making fundraising asks and managing external communication with donors and partners at all levels of seniority. Overall purpose

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations initially, the role holder will have technical leadership and overall responsibility for managing the Data and Innovation team. This team helps Breaking Barriers maximise the value of its data, by conducting analysis and managing the CRM (Salesforce) and related software.

The team works across all areas of the organisation to improve processes, unlock efficiencies through automation and generate insights from data. They ensure that data is utilised to inform any innovations or refinements to our services.

The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial manager with a high level of data literacy. We are looking for someone strategic, highly organised and a strong people and team manager. They will be confident at communicating data in a variety of ways to a large range of audiences, identifying key take-aways and the broader implications of the findings on our clients and programming. They will also be able to train others in key data analysis and communication skills.
