The Western Forest Director will drive, direct and manage the delivery and strategic direction of this new national forest. The Western Forest Director will head up the core team in supporting and directing resource and expertise throughout the region. Some key duties include:

About Us:

Strength & Learning Through Horses provides mental health and education support to some of London’s most vulnerable young people through offering equine assisted therapy and alternative education programmes. The organisation’s ability to deliver excellence in its service quality is dependent upon a skilled and competent workforce where learning and continuous improvement is a fundamental aim.

Strength & Learning Through Horses has been in operation for over 10 years and has grown year on year in terms of income and number of young people reached and number of services we offer.

We have 5 full time and 5 part time contracted staff members, 18 freelance staff members and work with 17 volunteers. 400 – 500 young people per year benefit from our life changing services; our hope is that this will increase to 700+ per year from 2027 once the building project at our site is complete. We have ambitious longer term plans for growth.

We have been operating in North London for over 10 years from a small stables, after our lease sadly came to an end in January 2023 we moved to our long term home. This was a derelict stables owned by the Council which we have secured via a 25 year lease. In 2022-23 we raised £300,000 to get the site usable as an equine therapy centre although it is still very run down with much of it boarded up an derelict. We now have full planning permission to develop the site and build a purpose built equine therapy centre which will allow us to double the number of young people who access the space.

About the Role:

To make this dream a reality we are looking for an experienced Capital Fundraising Manager to lead the Capital fundraising campaign for this project to raise £700,000 over 2 years in order to fund this build.

The hope is to raise £350,000 in year one in order to fund half of the build (stage 1) with the remaining funding being secured in the 2nd year to complete the build in year 2. We have a strong track record of fundraising including recently securing 5 years core costs funding from the National Lottery Community Fund and we have warm relationships that we can call on once this fundraising campaign gets activated.

• Engaging staff, volunteers and supporters in the campaign
• Manage fundraising pipeline and presenting a progress updates to the board if required
• Creating a relationship with one of our HNW funders who has connections with other HNW individuals and corporations
• The Equestrian Management Agency (who support us as their partner charity and are invested in making this fundraising campaign a success)

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead our Children and Young People Area. Managing a dynamic team, you will be responsible for implementing and progressing the area’s overarching strategy, ensuring that children and young people in our community have access to a range of exciting and evolving opportunities that support their development, creativity, social integration and wellbeing. 

You will also be joining the Senior Management Team at a fast-growing organisation in London’s charity sector, where you will play an important role in supporting the development and implementation of organisation-wide processes.

To succeed in this role, you will be an experienced project manager and line manager, with proven experience in successfully overseeing several projects at once, working to a range of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reporting impact in a clear and compelling way. 

You will also bring an ability to support and motivate team members to work to their full potential. You will be able to nurture existing partnerships while developing new strategic connections that contribute to the success of your area’s work and the organisation. You will have an excellent understanding of the needs of Latin Americans living in the UK and a genuine passion for progressing the rights and welfare of migrants and refugees

As the CYP Programme Manager, you will also act as our Designated Safeguarding Lead. Working alongside our Designated Safeguarding Officer and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will ensure that appropriate arrangements are in place to keep children, young people and at-risk adults safe at IRMO and across all the work that we do.

Key duties & responsibilities

Area Management

• To lead the delivery of the CYP area strategy, ensuring that we provide high-quality services that respond to the changing needs of our community.

• To ensure all required activities in each project’s phase are accurately undertaken.

• To ensure that all grant and contract requirements are met, including meeting all established KPIs and delivering services on time and within budget.

• To produce high-quality monitoring, evaluation and impact reports for funders, partners and IRMO’s Director and Management Committee.

• To effectively manage existing partnerships while developing new relationships with relevant stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for the area.

• To ensure the delivery of effective, efficient and high-quality services for our community.

• To lead, inspire and manage the CYP team in accordance with IRMO’s policies and procedures, supporting team members to work to their full potential.

Monitoring and Evaluation

• To establish and maintain effective data collection and monitoring mechanisms to track the area’s progress.

Communication

• To ensure that all IRMO services and activities, in the CYP area and beyond, are promoted to our target audiences.
