About us
Action for Conservation is a grassroots charity using pioneering approaches to inspire and empower young people from diverse backgrounds, between the ages of 12 and 24, to become the next generation of environmental leaders. We have recently embarked on an inspiring and ambitious new, three-year project funded through the National Lottery Community Fund: Intergenerational Action for Nature and Climate. This will see us working across two sites, Grow Wilder in Bristol and Heartwood, near Matlock in Derbyshire, and using our proven intergenerational land stewardship approach to restore biodiversity and connect young people to nature, empowering them to become life-long climate activists and advocates for nature.

Through regular online engagement and monthly visits to the Grow Wilder site, you will support us in facilitating an intergenerational co-design process, using eco-cultural mapping and other participatory methods. Involving key stakeholders, including Avon Wildlife Trust, a Youth Leadership Group of young people aged 12-18 living locally to Grow Wilder, land knowledge holders and the wider community, this process will enable participants to collectively develop an ambitious vision for the future of Grow Wilder. One of the outcomes of this process will be a shared plan for restoring nature and improving biodiversity at Grow Wilder, which will be implemented throughout the lifetime of the project and beyond.
Working in collaboration with our partners Avon Wildlife Trust, you will be responsible for coordinating all project activities, providing high-quality administrative and organisational support to the project team. You will also lead or support a variety of engaging sessions, webinars and hands-on activities with the project partners, young people, community groups and other project stakeholders.

OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY
Diversity is one of our core values as an organisation and we are committed to creating an inclusive working environment where diversity is valued and there is equality of opportunity. Currently, the environmental sector is the second least diverse in the UK, with just 4.8% of employees from ethnic minority backgrounds. We also recognise that the climate and ecological crisis disproportionately impacts minority and/or marginalised communities – yet these voices are largely underrepresented in the sector. If the environmental movement is to succeed in creating a greener future that supports society as a whole, we need diverse voices at the heart of our programmes. We, therefore, encourage people from demographics that are currently underrepresented in the environmental movement to apply.
GUARANTEED INTERVIEW SCHEME
We particularly encourage applications from people from ethnic minority backgrounds or living with a disability or long-term health conditions. We will offer an interview to any candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds or living with a disability who opt into our Guaranteed Interview Scheme when applying and who meet the essential criteria for this role.
If you would like further information, support with access requirements, such as an adjustment to the application or interview process, or an informal chat, please get in touch.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Communication and Marketing Manager to join our dynamic social mobility charity which exists to remove the barriers that prevent children and young people having meaningful access to the natural world. Through a week on one of our three heritage farms, Nethercott House in Devon, Lower Treginnis in Pembrokeshire, and Wick Court in Gloucestershire, children and young people experience increased learning and engagement, improved connections and wellbeing, and leave us with an enhanced sense of environmental citizenship. Visiting children are immersed in the natural world of countryside through a food and farming offer that allows them to participate in the seasonal tasks of the day: sowing, growing and harvesting in our kitchen gardens; caring for livestock and looking after the land; and cooking up a home-grown feast in the farmhouse kitchen. In partnership with our commercial farming neighbours, children experience the benefits of collaboration, enjoy plenty of physical activity, good food, and fresh air, and discover the magical rural environment that is full of new words, sounds and experiences to inspire their creativity. Spending time working alongside real farmers fosters children’s independence and helps them to grow in confidence, develops their self-esteem, and encourages them to become more resilient.

The successful applicant will have considerable experience of developing and delivering a communication and marketing strategy as well as experience of designing and delivering multi-channel sales and marketing campaigns. Excellent people skills are key, as you will need to build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders.

CONTRACT: Permanent

WHAT WE DO
Young people from lower income families are 40% less likely to go to University than wealthier peers (Dept for Education, 2020) which can have a lifelong impact on earning potential. Covid-19 has deepened inequalities (Social Mobility Foundation, 2022) and negatively impacted on young people's wellbeing (GirlGuiding, 2020). We believe that no girls should have their futures limited by their gender, sex, ethnicity, background, or parental income and they should be supported to realise their ambitions, to discover their self-worth, and to develop their capacity to shape their world and their futures.
We work in communities of least advantage across England to deliver two core programmes to achieve this vision. Through our mentoring programme we connect 14-19 year old girls with a mentor and a wider network of role models who are women and deliver opportunities which help them to build life skills and nurture their ambitions. Based on the idea that 'you can't be what you can't see', our mentors often help girls to broaden their horizons and create a more positive vision of their futures. After the programme, the mentees can join a free, lifelong network of support - our Ambassador Community, which offers further opportunities to reach their goals, build their confidence and to share their voices and experiences.
Our programmes help girls and young women to develop the knowledge, skills, self-belief and opportunities to thrive, and to be supported as part of a network that champions them and ensures their voices are heard.

Recently featured as an Escape the City Top 100 Places to Work, The Girls’ Network is an award-winning charity with a large and growing network of supporters, mentors and schools across eight regions of England.
We are now looking for a Network Manager to join us in the North East.
FUNCTION: Delivering our successful mentoring programmes in Tyne & Wear, Tees Valley and across the wider NE area.
WHERE THE ROLE FITS: Reporting to: North Senior Network Manager
SALARY: £27,825 per annum
CONTRACT: Fixed Term Contract - 12 months with possibility of extension
HOURS: 5 days per week, 37.5 hours (with some evening work)
LOCATION: Home based with weekly travel to schools and partners across the NE region. (Access to own vehicle required)
WHAT WE DO
Young people from lower income families are 40% less likely to go to University than wealthier peers (Dept for Education, 2020) which can have a lifelong impact on earning potential.
THE ROLE
This is an exciting role joining a Programme Team of 15 staff based throughout the UK. There is a small team of 3 based in the North East. You will work closely and collaborate with the other Network Managers and share some priorities across the region, working to develop the region as a whole. This is a role reliant on good relationships. 70-80% of the role is about relationship building (with schools, mentors and partners), coordination and the tracking/ administration of those relationships. Only 15-20% of the role is direct delivery with the girls in the region.
Mentoring programme
- Manage overall success of the cohorts (groups of mentees and mentors) in your region, including coordinating and administering events and communications for cohorts in your area.
- Deliver engaging on-boarding sessions for mentees
- Design and deliver events and workshops for mentees
- Deliver matching of mentees and mentors at in-person events or virtually
- Work with the wider programme team to train mentors
- Support mentors once matched through regular check-ins, monthly emails and ad-hoc conversations
- Collect data to track the progress, and impact of, mentoring relationships
- Support mentors with safeguarding concerns, following The Girls’ Network process in line with our child protection policy
- Develop effective relationships with schools, on-boarding, supporting and retaining the partnerships
Partnerships
- Work with the Senior Network Manager in your area to identify professional partnerships and sponsorship with local and national businesses
- Work with the Senior Network Manager in your area to actively recruit mentors to the programme, especially by engaging in community networks.

- Report significant successes and achievements to relevant staff members

The college combines the highest standards of academic excellence in teaching and research with a vibrant, inclusive and supportive community. Our 650 undergraduate and graduate students come from a wide range of backgrounds, countries and cultures. We aim to attract the brightest minds, and are committed to raising aspiration and improving social mobility through a programme of bursaries and outreach. The College was founded in 1571 by Queen Elizabeth 1, at the request of a Welsh lawyer and clergyman called Hugh Price, and our beautiful Dining Hall, Chapel, and Principal’s Lodgings are still used for their original purposes today. The historic Fellows’ Library houses our collection of early printed books, and our stunning quadrangles provide an oasis of green; bustling with life in the summer months. We embrace all the wonderful Oxford traditions, and also celebrate many unique to Jesus College itself, such as our annual St David’s Day celebrations to mark our Welsh origins.
