The Philanthropy Manager is a key member of the Philanthropy & Partner Engagement Department which sits within War Child’s award-winning Fundraising team. War Child is growing, and the Philanthropy Manager will support the development of the Major Donor Function at War Child to retain and increase our income from major donors so that we can reach more children in the worst conflict affected countries.

Your Role
The Philanthropy Manager role is crucial in helping raise funds to enable our rapid growth and the expansion of our impact. Reporting to the Philanthropy Lead, you will be responsible for developing an excellent stewardship programme which grows unrestricted and restricted income and nurtures relationships with War Child’s existing major donors. You will use excellent communication skills to write compelling and tailored proposals to increase our reach.
As an integral member of the Philanthropy and Partner Engagement Department, you will bring creativity, insight and experience to the team, as well as being a key voice and representative internally and externally. You will contribute to the wider Fundraising & Communications strategy by taking a lead role in cross-team projects and activities.
Your Responsibilities
- Systematically identify, qualify, and strategise a pipeline for up to six figure gifts for both unrestricted and restricted giving
- Lead on building an excellent stewardship programme, supporting relationship managers across the team to deliver sector leading supporter journeys
- Develop and implement strong cultivation and solicitation plans for existing donors to generate significant income from the portfolio. This will include personal meetings, attending networking events, writing proposals/reports and making presentations
- Take an active role, and lead where relevant, on the planning and delivery of a diverse portfolio of philanthropy events, including events that are hosted by Ambassadors
- Support on the development of new fundraising products which drive the stewardship programme and the retention of major donors
- Actively participate in regular department, team or working group meetings, contributing to strategy discussion and decisions that will be beneficial to the development of fundraising activities
- Record all communications with major donors on War Child’s database, Salesforce, ensuring donor information is kept up to date and properly secured at all times.
- Monitor income and expenditure targets and provide regular progress reports and updates on performance against target using War Child’s database
- Take an active role, and lead where relevant, in cross-team working groups to provide insight, advice and gain opportunities for the Philanthropy & Partnerships team
- Maintain an up to date knowledge of current activities of War Child and be an advocate of the War Child brand at all times

You Are
- Experienced in a similar fundraising role, with a specialist knowledge of major donor fundraising, ideally within an international development or humanitarian NGO
- Able to work independently to develop and implement fundraising strategies with a proven track record of securing five-figure gifts and delivering against targets
- A relationship manager with strong networking skills at senior levels internally and externally
- Experienced in stewardship strategies for major donors or the development of supporter journeys in order to retain donors
- Excellent skills in presenting information, verbally and in writing, including briefings and project reports to a range of audiences in a clear and confident manner
- Able to understand international development including War Child’s vision, mission and values and present War Child’s work with authority
- Organised and able to plan and prioritise to meet multiple deadlines
- Able to demonstrate experience of successfully planning and delivering events.
- Up to date in your knowledge of fundraising regulation, compliance and GDPR, and its implications for fundraising policy and practise.

MAIN PURPOSES OF THE JOB
The Stella Maris (SM) Regional Port Chaplain will promote the vision, mission and values of SM in caring for all seafarers and fishers by helping to meet their pastoral and spiritual needs. They will recruit, train and support SM staff and volunteers for the port and will maintain good relations with local parishes and the local diocese. They will work ecumenically with members of other Christian maritime societies with whom SM works.
1. To meet the welfare and pastoral needs of all seafarers and fishers equally according to their needs and wishes. To be an advocate on their behalf, upholding the dignity of each. Through regular and frequent ship visiting, to understand the working and living conditions of the seafarer and fishers and be able to work for justice and for the well-being of all crew members without distinction.
2. To address the communication needs of seafarers, providing transport, news, and access to telephone and internet facilities.
3. To address the welfare needs of seafarers and fishers, including support with money transfers, hospitality, and crisis support, e.g. abandonment, injury and death, detainment, bereavement, advice and access to medical care.
4. To meet the ecclesial, spiritual, and sacramental needs of Catholic seafarers and fishers; to facilitate the religious and spiritual needs of others and to be a pastor to all, sharing one’s faith as appropriate.
5. To participate in SM conferences, ongoing formation and other professional courses as required.
6. To supporting seafarer centre functioning.
7. To recruit, train, develop and retain a SM ship visiting volunteering team.
8. To represent SM on the local Port Welfare Committee(s), to include attending such meetings and submitting reports.
9. To liaise and maintain good working relationships with all port stakeholders, including the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the International Transport Workers’ Federation, port health, harbour masters, dockers, security, and shipping agents.
10. To work in an ecumenical and multi-faith context by respecting the differing religious and spiritual needs of seafarers drawn from diverse regions throughout the world.
11. To encourage and support the development of an ecumenical service to seafarers through engagement with our ecumenical colleagues, including the Mission to Seafarers, The Fishermen’s Mission, The Sailors’ Society (to name a few).
12. To engage with local maritime colleges.
13. To engage with the local press, in particular the local Catholic diocesan press.
14. To represent and be a proactive advocate for SM at Deanery meetings, in local parishes, in schools, with diocesan Justice and Peace networks, with migrant communities, in the local Catholic community and in the local community as a whole.

16. To promote SM internally and externally so as to ensure a highly motivated workforce and a positive external image.

Refugee Council is seeking an experienced philanthropy specialist to develop and grow the Refugee Council’s Philanthropy relationships and programme and deliver an ambitious Philanthropy strategy.
Refugee Council is a leading charity supporting refugees and people seeking asylum to rebuild their lives in safety here in the UK. Providing practical, hands on support, their award winning services include welcoming refugees into local communities across the country, providing specialist children’s services – with a particular focus on refugee children who arrive here alone, helping people to navigate the asylum system, and supporting people to access housing and employment. Growing Hope Senior Finance Officer
Location: Hybrid working (2-3 days office based in King’s Cross Mon, Thurs and possibly Fri)

Growing Hope is a charity providing free therapy for children and young people with additional needs in partnership with local churches across the UK. We aim to grow hope for children, hope for families and hope in Jesus. Growing Hope was founded in December 2017 and has a vision to see 20 clinics set up across the UK by 2030. We have three clinics, King’s Cross, Brockley and High Wycombe, and we are currently setting up our fourth and fifth clinics in Maidstone and Redbridge. We worked with over 500 children, young people, parents, carers and siblings in 2023. As a national charity Growing Hope has trained over 1,000 professionals & parents. We are continuing to expand, with the set-up of further local clinics on the horizon.
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic finance professional with great attention to detail, strong analytical skills and an ability to work in a fast pace environment. The role will report to the Director of Operations and will involve running book keeping, reporting and banking functions as well as overseeing payroll. This role supports the national Growing Hope charity and each of the local charities’ (clinics) accounting for around £1 million collectively each year. You will be joining a small and dedicated national team of eleven.
Job Purpose
Growing Hope requires an experienced finance professional (with part qualifications) who will be responsible for the delivery of internal financial management systems and controls, and for maintaining accurate financial management records, including managing the process of producing annual accounts. This role covers both the national charity and the local Growing Hope charities which are growing across the UK. The national charity raises around £600,000 per year and the local charities around £50,000-£100,000. The Senior Finance Officer will support the charities with day to day book keeping, raising invoices, paying expenses, scheduling payroll payments and running management reports and accounts. This job role also involves advising on budgets for fundraising project proposals and working closely with the supporter engagement team. This individual will be able to communicate effectively with all the relevant parties including the national Growing Hope team, the local Clinic Managers, and local finance trustees who have overall governance of each charity’s finances.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

Book keeping & Finance processes
- Processing of accounts using Quickbooks for each Growing Hope charity in a timely manner (currently 6 small charities)
- Paying expenses and invoices as and when these are approved.
- Liaising with payroll provider and scheduling salary payments for all staff each month.
- Invoicing local Growing Hope charities each month for book keeping, payroll and quickbooks.
- Running gift aid claims and supporting volunteers to run this across the Growing Hope charities.
- Liaising with local clinics and churches to agree payment schedules and giving for each financial year.
- Participate actively in prayer and worship times as part of the team. This includes praying, coaching and supporting Clinic Managers to understand their budgets and financial processes.
Fundraising
- Contributing to the fundraising strategy and development of budgets for fundraising projects.
- Contributing to the wider teams fundraising efforts through networking, and involvement in fundraising and community events.
Reporting
- Updating monthly forecast vs. budget spreadsheets for each local charity and the national charity.
- Leading monthly budget reporting meetings for Senior Leadership Team and Chair of Trustees, using analytical skills to highlight patterns or potential risks or problems arising.
- Create annual reports in partnership with the Clinic Managers and Finance trustee for each local charity and ensure these are independently examined by recruiting and liaising with volunteer accountants.
Payroll
- Liaising with the payroll provider to run payroll for all staff across the Growing Hope charities each month.
- Setting up and running pension payments each month.
- Paying NI payments each month.
General administration
- Set up bank accounts and signatories for local Growing Hope charities, support the local trustees with ensuring all financial processes are set up and working (e.g. bank account, Stripe, Quickbooks, payroll, pensions, HMRC)
- Sending letters and emails as required.
- Maintain data protection and confidentiality in line with Growing Hope’s information governance policy.
