The role

This is an exciting time for us and a rare opportunity to join a “new” charity that has the profile, assets, and mission of an established one. Our first substantive Director of Finance will be able to see the bigger picture but be committed to excellence in the fundamentals. They will be ambitious, but that ambition will be underpinned by rigorous attention to detail. They will own and be accountable for their directorate but will possess a strong instinct to collaborate. Most of all, they will believe in the Charity’s mission and ensure that every aspect of our work supports its delivery.

As a key member of the senior leadership team, reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director of Finance will:
• Proactively contribute to the development and delivery of the Charity’s strategy through implementing long-term financial planning to underpin our objectives.
• Role model excellence in their management of the finance team to inspire them to thrive in their roles and deliver high performance standards across the financial functions of the Charity.
• Engage and inspire the wider Charity team to collectively foster a positive culture of financial responsibility and transparency, ensuring that all our activities demonstrate value for money and deliver impact for our donors, supporters, and stakeholders.
• Be committed to the good stewardship of our financial resources and take responsibility for the financial health of the Charity. Working with the Director of Operations & Resources, you will champion the responsible use of our financial and non-financial resources to deliver the biggest impact we can have for our beneficiaries.
• Act as company secretary, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, including from the Charity Commission, Companies House, HMRC, and other relevant bodies.

Person Specification - 

Knowledge and experience
We are looking for candidates with demonstrable strategic financial leadership spanning organisational planning, budgeting, risk, and reporting. You will have:
• A recognised financial qualification. Excellent knowledge of charity financial management, procurement and contracting at a senior level is ideal but not essential.
• Experience of effective budget setting and implementing controls and processes to manage and monitoring budgets.
• Advanced understanding of risk management.
• Experience of improving policies and processes in comparable organisations.
• Success in delivering increased cost effectiveness.
• Evidence of building financial impact and performance metrics and reporting.
• Understanding of the requirements of legislation, Charity Commission and professional body guidance on being a well-run and financially accountable Charity – or an ability to familiarise themselves with charitable law.
• Considerable experience of management and development of staff.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work within our policy, evidence and influencing team to achieve change for people with breast cancer in Wales. 

You’ll play a key role leading the development and delivery of our policy and public affairs work in Wales. You’ll develop evidence-based policy positions, and design and deliver public affairs and policy influencing plans in line with our strategic aims. This will include focusing on topics such as waiting times, screening, and secondary breast cancer. 

You’ll also support the roll out of campaigning activity and act as a key spokesperson for the charity in Wales, representing us in the media as well as with campaigners and senior stakeholders.

About you 

You’ll have experience of working in relevant policy or public affairs roles developing policy positions and materials, and a proven ability to build strong external contacts. 

Along with strong analytical and communication skills, you’ll have the ability to work well independently while managing a varied workload, and the capability to lead projects and work with teams across the UK.

You’ll have a good understanding of the current health policy landscape in Wales or the UK as well as knowledge of Welsh or UK parliamentary processes and legislative systems.

Main purpose and scope of the role:

Parentkind is a national charity representing 13,000 Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and has a long term ambition to be the voice of parents in policy making. 

We are looking for someone to support our work in Westminster and Whitehall, improving our relationships across Parliament and inside government as we seek to be the credible voice of parents in UK policy making. 

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of advocacy and policy research in Westminster, either within Parliament or government. If you have a passion for politics, a background in policy research and an interest in education policy and politics this is the role for you.

The role will involve:

• Conducting research on parents, including polling of parents and their views. We have an ambition to make high quality policy recommendations based on this research. 
• Alongside the research requirements of the role, you will be expected to support our political and broader stakeholder engagement activity to make sure the work we do is seen by the right people. 
• Organise and plan political events to communicate our research, including roundtables, lunches and dinners and launch events in Westminster. 
• Lead on responding to public consultations on behalf of Parentkind to ensure the voice of parents is heard in the public consultations.

You will represent Parentkind at important events and meetings and have the chance to promote our research and policy recommendations. We would particularly welcome candidates who can demonstrate some media experience, including writing press releases and placing stories with national media outlets.

Duties and key responsibilities

Policy research and analysis

• To conduct research under the guidance of the Director of Policy and Research.
• To produce summarise large amounts of information and produce briefing material on education policy for external audiences, often at pace.
• To support the development of parent opinion polling related to our policy work.
• Respond to relevant consultations on behalf of Parentkind. 

Policy development

• To provide rapid briefing material for any relevant future business relating to Parliament and the UK government.
• To provide political monitoring and identify opportunities for political engagement.
• To support the development of policy recommendations and experience of publishing policy related research.

Political engagement

To plan and organise political events, such as roundtable discussions, lunches and dinners and launch events in Westminster.

To identify political stakeholders relevant to our work in Parliament and the UK government, including:

• officials inside government departments,
• elected representatives,
•  think tanks and other relevant research institutions.

To maintain a wide range of political contacts and meet with political stakeholders to promote our research and policy work.

To meet with organisations with an interest in our work and provide effective briefings.

To attend party conferences and other education led events to represent Parentkind. 

Media engagement

To support the Director of Policy and Research in media engagement, including background research for press releases. 

To summarise our policy and research ready for social media platforms.

 

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and proactive press officer to help raise the profile of the charity and promote the charity to external audiences.

The principal aims of this post are to lead the charity’s news flow and media relations, achieving as many accurate and favourable mentions as possible in the primarily national, but also the international, equine and regional media which reflect World Horse Welfare’s organisational values, campaigning agenda and key messages.

Reporting to the Head of Communications, the role requires that you have journalistic experience or training along with excellent writing and interpersonal skills. You will have a good nose for a story, be able to write copy to tight deadlines and use your creativity to spot opportunities to promote the charity. The successful applicant will be a self-starter with an understanding of print, broadcast and online media. Horse knowledge and contacts within the national and/or equine press are desirable but not essential.

We are looking for an Events and External Affairs Officer to join the team, who will help us to identify and develop our event audiences, lead on event communication and manage stakeholder relations for speakers and delegates.

Alongside running effective email marketing campaigns, the post holder will ensure a strong presence for UUKi events on social media and the UUKi website. They will support the development of relationships with event speakers, and project manage other event logistics leading up to and including on the day of each event. The post holder will work closely with the Director of UUKi and Finance to ensure the accurate recording of the UUKi budget along with the processing of UUKi finance.

The post holder will support the Director of UUKi with their Diary to cover the Directors Executive Assistant’s annual leave.

The working hours for this role are largely Monday-Friday 9-5, although a willingness and ability to work out-of-hours is necessary. Events typically take place during working hours, however early starts/late finishes may be required.

The post holder will work a mixture of in the UUK offices in central London and at home, with 40% of the month in the office, however they must be available to attend the office for event days and for other core business reasons.

We work fast over multiple projects and want someone who will be flexible to needs of the team at different points in the event cycle.

About the role

·Organise and deliver a series of NextGen events (monthly minimum), dealing with speakers, venues, logistics, communications etc.

Purpose 

We’re looking for someone who wants to combine their passion for social change with their commitment to digital communications. The person in this role will line manage a small and talented team of two officers (Marketing and Content, and Digital Communications), and should enjoy supporting others to flourish through a kind and relational approach. 

Part of a busy department of specialists in communications (including digital and press), public affairs and policy, you will play a critical role in shaping our digital engagement strategy through our website, social media channels and email marketing. As well as leading the team to expand our reach and build brand awareness through creative content, you will also have a keen eye for analytics and work with our partner agencies to deliver effective campaigns across paid social media ads, Google Ads and CMS management.

You’ll be joining the team at an exciting time; supporting communities to engage decision makers and win change post-General Election. Our external affairs work is fast-paced but committed to the distinctive ethos of Citizens UK – where local leaders and people experiencing injustice are in the lead. You’ll be a strong communicator with the ability to tell a story in short time frame and have interest in a range of social justice issues including refugee and migrant justice and the real Living Wage.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will play an integral role in shaping the digital strategy, while ensuring that colleagues develop their capacity and understanding of how to use digital tools most effectively.

Main Responsibilities 

Working as the Digital Engagement Manager for Citizens UK, reporting to the Director of Communications, your main responsibilities will include:

• Lead the team in conducting stakeholder analysis; identifying and segmenting audiences and their positions and interests.

We are delighted to be recruiting for a part time Volunteer & Work Experience Co-ordinator to work at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. This is a fixed term contract until 31st December 2025, working 25 hours per week, or approximately 3 days. 

The role

The purpose of the Volunteer & Work Experience Co-ordinator role is to build a team of volunteers from the Royal Hospital Chelsea community, veteran community (including spouses of Service personnel) and wider area to support the activities in our new Visitor, Outreach and Heritage Centre. Working closely with our Volunteer Manager, the Co-ordinator will organise volunteer recruitment days and events to acknowledge and thank volunteers for their invaluable contribution.

The successful candidate will also develop a work experience programme for young people. This includes internships, opportunities for Master’s students to undertake project based work, rolling work experience opportunities and events for local people to engage with the Royal Hospital’s heritage.

The post-holder will sit within the new Audience Engagement team, working closely with volunteers and partners, such as Chelsea Pensioner tour and museum guides, other universities offering heritage programmes, local secondary schools and academies, and the project’s design team.
