About the Role

The Head of US Death Penalty Projects is responsible for overseeing Reprieve’s work against the death penalty in the United States of America.

 Background to Reprieve’s work against the death penalty in the US

 Reprieve has worked against the death penalty since our founding. In recent years we have built a particular specialism in issues relating to lethal injection, the most popular execution method in the US. Lethal injection has been touted as a more humane than other methods – a modern, clean, clinical way to execute. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Lethal injection executions go wrong more often than any other execution method, often resulting in prolonged and torturous executions, commonly known as “botched” executions. Through our work we aim to dispel the myth of the humane execution, working with allies across medicine, business and other sectors to end the misuse of medicines and medical technology in executions.

The existing portfolio of work includes litigation, investigation and analysis, corporate engagement, a wide range of public and private advocacy, and developing and maintaining world-leading expertise on execution methods, particularly the jurisprudence and science relevant to lethal injection.

About You

You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies in which each of Reprieve’s methodologies—investigation, litigation, casework political and public engagement, support for and (where possible and appropriate) advocacy with affected communities—connect with one another to achieve positive outcomes in the death penalty landscape and address structural rights violations.

Location, contract and salary

The role is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of £59,226 per annum less any required deductions for tax and national insurance. Reprieve works across a number of jurisdictions; as such this is a role that may require work outside of core hours from time to time. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work a minimum of 40% from the London office and the rest of the week from home.

Horsham Matters - Overview

 Horsham Matters is a local Christian charity that works to prevent and relieve poverty throughout our district.  We do this by the provision of essential services such as food, fuel and household goods, providing advice and guidance to households in need, and working with partners to address the root causes of poverty. Our work is funded by income generated through donated goods which can be sold in our shop or online, by grants and donations and through public fundraising.

 Operations Manager

The Operations Manager is a critical role to ensure the smooth running of all our operations.  Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team with responsibility for leading a team of staff, volunteers and 3rd party contractors.  You will strive to continually improve systems and procedures across the Charity whilst maximising opportunities to increase income.

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week), which will also require some weekend working (approx. 8 Saturdays/year).

Operational leadership:

· Line management of Logistics Team including performance management, building capability and training etc.

· Ensure smooth communication and excellent links across Charity buildings

· Work with the Office Manager team to ensure that the needs of clients requiring household items are met by the Logistics team

· Ensure vehicles are safe and road worthy, ensuring essential maintenance takes place

· Fully participate and demonstrate best practice including the physical aspects of moving equipment and furniture, as well as driving the van and all other tasks across the logistics sector of the charity

· Ensure that items not suitable for sale are disposed of appropriately and in a timely manner to prevent health and safety issues arising

You’ll join a team of Marketing and Communications enthusiasts, supporting the delivery of various initiatives across the South West.

You’ll be an experienced Graphic Designer who is confident in bringing colleagues together to define and fulfil projects.  You’ll love working with a wide range of people everyday and enjoy working on multiple jobs as well as line managing a small team of Graphic Designers. 

This is a hybrid role with at least 2 days working in the office and occasional travel to other sites across the South West.

This is a field working role where you will work from home and the community in the Southampton and Portsmouth area. However, it’s not all fun and games, keeping things on point means meticulously recording info and data about our young superstars, volunteers, or partners. It's all about making sure every step of their journey aligns perfectly with our funding contracts.

• The post holder has key responsibility for supporting our Leadership Programmes working alongside the Events and Membership Manager and the Director of Nursing Programmes (Leadership and Standards) to ensure work is covered by the wider team and to act as a central point of contact for partners and clients.

• Essential is the ability to manage, balance and prioritise several one-off tasks, while ensuring critical routine tasks still take place.
• While not a key prerequisite for the role, project management would be a skill that would be expected to be developed.
• The role will also pick up other co-ordinator duties as part of the wider team, which is expected to work flexibly to cover the requirements of the organisation.
