Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Senior Marketing Manager – Fundraising to join a well-established and impactful health charity. This is an exciting opportunity to take the lead in developing and executing marketing strategies that inspire and engage donors to support the charity’s vital fundraising efforts.
You will play a key role in driving both donor acquisition and retention, ensuring that the charity meets its fundraising targets and continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need. Key Responsibilities:
· Lead fundraising marketing campaigns, developing creative strategies that drive donations and increase engagement with both individual and corporate supporters.

Person Specification:

Brain Tumour Research is seeking an experienced and motivated fundraiser to join our team on a part time basis (17.5 hrs per week, covering a minimum of three days per week)

What You’ll Be Doing:

What you will be doing
The Director of Fundraising will be a key member of our executive team reporting directly to the Secretary General. As our first Director of Fundraising, you will have the opportunity to build and develop your own team to help you deliver the fundraising strategy.
In taking forward the strategy, you will identify and articulate areas for support, research relevant funding potential and secure income through the development and execution of both the short and long-term fundraising strategy across the funding spectrum. With our donor’s generous gift, we aim to build a thriving, major gifts programme which builds capacity and delivers a significant return on our donor’s investment. It is our aim to raise £15million over the next 4 years.
You will be responsible for building a fundraising team and leading fundraising in all areas, from major gifts relationships, completing complex bids to grant-making Trusts and Foundations and managing and utilising the skills of the Trustees and wider St John network.
You will build and maintain a network of supporters. This will require both organisational and bid-writing skills, as well as the ability to represent us, our work and all that we stand for in negotiations with partners, sponsors and major donors around the world.
1. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE JOB
The Director of Fundraising will lead the continued development, co-ordination and delivery of our new fundraising strategy, to build and maintain philanthropic income.
The post holder will work under the direction of the Secretary General and Trustees to:
1. Deliver our new Fundraising Strategy which has been prepared, maximising resources through major donors, trusts and foundations, individual giving, corporates and legacies throughout the world.

2. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

b) Create and manage fundraising: major donors, trusts and foundations, corporates, and legacies across the organisation.
c) Monitor, collect and manage information on relevant sources of funding, including public and charitable funds, commissioning and procurement, and emerging opportunities for income generation.
d) Develop, implement and oversee quality control, evaluation and reporting procedures to ensure a high standard of bid submission, monitoring and reporting at all times.
e) Build relationships with major donors and maintain good stewardship of donors and funders. We expect our contributor base to include international donors, and not just those who may be UK-based.

Our day centre service is currently open three days per-week offering respite, food and somewhere safe to be for anyone facing street homelessness. It provides advocacy and casework services to those who are vulnerably housed or homeless, supporting them to address their individual crisis and the underlying causes. Lia's Wings are looking to appoint a Fundraising Manager into a brand new role, at an incredibly exciting time for the charity. As the only aeroplane ambulance charity for children in the UK, we are experiencing a period of phenomenal growth, with incredible opportunities and potential for fundraising.
Being responsible for the management and delivery of our challenge events, special events and community fundraising activities, this role will involve working with some of our most committed supporters on a series of engaging (and fun) events that are continuing to grow year on year. The Fundriasing Manager will also be expected to support our corporate partners, and engage with our Family Fundraising efforts, giving them the opportunity to meet, and work with our incredible beneficiaries first-hand.
A hybrid role: this post will be mostly remote but will involve travelling to regular (fortnightly) team meetings in central London (Zone 1), or, our operating base at Biggin Hill Airport, and, to manage events across the UK throughout the year.
The perfect candidate for this role will have experience of managing various types of fundraising events, but first and foremost, we are looking for a consummate fundraiser who is passionate about stewarding fundraisers. We are looking for a fundraiser who can think outside the box, solve problems, and support supporters, donors and fundraisers of all levels, to ensure we maximise every opportunity we receive.
Reporting to the Head of Fundraising, this role will be integral to the growth of Lia's Wings, and is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking for a role at a small charity, where their efforts will make a real difference.
Over the last year we have had more people than ever before hoping to fundraise for Lia’s Wings, which has given rise to some fantastic new events being created (led by the charity), alongside several wonderful community-led partnerships with schools and social clubs around the UK.
Every year we also have a great uptake in classic charity challenges taking place both in the UK, and overseas, including the London Landmarks and Royal Parks Half Marathon, and the Berlin and Chicago Marathons. We have also had great success delivering our own, bespoke charity challenges, which we hope will continue into the future. For 2025, we are due to complete the second instalment of an annual Lia’s Wings Overseas Cycle Challenge, a Shark dive, Skydive and three peaks challenges, amongst many others, which this role would be expected to lead on, and develop for years to come.
Corporate Partnerships are one of our key income streams, with employees from dozens of companies supporting our events efforts. As well as managing these events, there would be a certain level of devolved account management with these partners, with the post holder becoming the primary point of contact for those firms.
We also have a growing network of community groups – including schools and social groups – who want to support Lia’s Wings as a partner charity. It is an area we would love to expand, with this role being crucial to the ongoing development of these areas.
And finally: for the past two years we have we also hosted a seasonal thank you party each Christmas (our “Jingle and Mingle”) which we hope will be another fantastic opportunity that can be developed by the right person in this role, as a real jewel in the crown of our events portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- To manage our Challenge, Community, and Special Event fundraising streams, to achieve set targets.
- To grow income sustainably from our existing portfolio of events, ensuring continued high performance, engagement, and participation.
- To design, develop, and deliver new events that are suitable for our primary supporter audiences, alongside the Head of Fundraising.
- To effectively steward fundraisers to ensure an excellent supporter experience (resulting in positive fundraising performance, and repeat year on year participation), including appropriate thanking and recognition, reporting, and feedback on outcomes of events.
- To assume account management responsibility for smaller corporate and community partnerships (primarily engaged with the charity through events fundraising)
- To ensure a strong (in-person) team and volunteer presence at events.
- To support the Head of Fundraising on the delivery of our Corporate and Community Partnerships.
- To support our Family Support Team with the delivery of our Family Fundraising programme
- To build strong relationships with existing and potential stake holders, including event committees, and Trustees of the charity.
- To proactively manage event income and expenditure budgets, monitoring and reporting to the Head of Fundraising to support forecasting and budgeting processes, including monthly reconciliation.
- To manage all stock, consumables and promotional items related to these areas of fundraising.
- To maintain comprehensive recording-keeping relating to these areas of fundraising with existing tools including our CRM system, Salesforce.
- To attend fortnightly team meetings (in person) in London, and to attend other compulsory training days or events as required
- To support the Head of Engagement in preparing digital assets, including news pieces, photography, videography, and fundraiser case studies for our website and social media
- To ensure all practices meet statutory legislation requirements including the Data Protection Act, and Fundraising Code of Practice.
- To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post that by be required by the Head of Fundraising, including supporting the fundraising team with other in-person events throughout the year as they arise.
- At all times, to act as a role model, representing the vision and values of Lia’s Wings.

What the job involves
This is a unique chance to play a pivotal role in driving impactful external communication strategies that support Individual Giving and Events and Community Fundraising. As a key player in the Strategic Communications, Campaigns and Brand team, you’ll enable the integration of mass fundraising activities into wider organisational communications, inspiring action to fund life-saving initiatives that help men navigate prostate cancer.
Supporting the Head of Strategic Communications, Campaigns and Brand in embedding and developing our Business Partnering model. A major part of the role will be enabling the integration of Mass Fundraising activity into the wider communications plan to enhance results from our communications.
You’ll guide the planning process for projects and campaigns to grow fundraising revenue, support our community and improve outcomes for all men affected by and at risk of prostate cancer.
Please note this role is known internally as Communications Business Partner (Mass).

You’ll have proven expertise in communications business partnering, with experience in mass or public fundraising. Working within our Strategic Communication team, you’ll have a strong understanding of campaign planning tools like OASIS and a solid grasp of PR, social media, and integrated marketing strategies. You’ll be an exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to simplify complex information for diverse audiences in particular mass fundraising engagement.
As natural collaborator, you’ll have skills in influencing, coaching and motivating teams to achieve ambitious results within project management.

FUNDRAISING LEADERSHIP
- Lead the development of the fundraising strategy to grow and diversify the charity’s income, with support from the CEO.

- Lead the implementation of the fundraising strategy, setting annual plans, income targets and budgets

HIGH VALUE GIVING
- Responsible for leading the development, and managing the delivery, of our major donor and corporate fundraising strategies

- Be the lead contact with John Caudwell’s Charity Pioneer, supporting the recruitment and engagement of Life Changer Circle members.

- Support the Grants Manager to develop strategy and plans to maximise ROI from Trusts and Foundations.
- Oversee the grants pipeline, application process and procedures to ensure quality and compliance with financial and legal requirements.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential skills and experience
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in fundraising, including a track record of securing high-value gifts of six figures.
- Proven track record of successfully developing and delivering fundraising strategies, including corporate partnerships, major gifts, trusts, and foundations.
- Sound leadership and team management experience, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve targets. The Fundraising Director will manage a team of two within a wider organisation of 25 staff.
- Excellent relationship-building skills with donors, corporate sponsors, grant-making bodies, and stakeholders, including grassroots and volunteer-driven fundraising efforts.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience in budget management, financial forecasting, and reporting on fundraising performance, with a focus on KPIs and success metrics.
- Ability to set and achieve clear fundraising growth targets, ensuring alignment between current income portfolios and projected expansion.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to craft compelling fundraising proposals and cases for support.
- Knowledge of fundraising regulations, data protection laws (GDPR), and ethical fundraising best practices.
- Ability to work strategically and collaboratively with senior leadership teams to align fundraising activities with the charity’s mission and objectives.
