Leadership

High Value Fundraising

- Build and maintain a portfolio of Trust & Grants supporters. Responsible for researching, approaching and developing compelling applications with a focus on ensuring Trusts & Grants provide a long-term, diverse and sustainable income stream
- Lead the development and stewardship of the Philanthropy board to identify and secure transformational (6-7 figure) gifts and the development of the Business development Board to open opportunities with Corporate Partners
- Write and design a compelling case for support that is tailored to our High Value audiences
- Build a portfolio of corporate partners, including securing high-value, multi-year partnerships. You will work with the team to grow this income stream from prospecting, approaches, applications, pitches, stewardship and providing excellent account management

THE ROLE
This role at The Girls’ Network, will be responsible for overseeing the charity’s finance, operations, HR, governance, and compliance functions. As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), you will play a key role in shaping the organisation’s strategic direction and ensuring its long-term sustainability. You’ll provide expert advice to the CEO and Board, lead on business planning and risk management, and manage the Finance and Operations team to deliver efficient, high-quality internal systems and support. With a focus on continuous improvement, equity, and organisational effectiveness, this role is essential to helping The Girls’ Network grow its impact and support more girls to achieve their ambitions.
Key Activities
Leadership and Governance
- Support the organisation in reviewing and implementing improved systems and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- As a Senior Management Team (SMT) member, take a leading role in The Girls' Network's strategic and operational leadership.
- Provide expert support and guidance to the CEO on legal and governance duties as a charity.
- Work with the CEO and Chair of Finance and Audit Committee to set agendas and lead on producing papers for the quarterly Finance, Audit and Risk Committee meetings and contribute to Board papers.
- Responsible for management of the organisational risk register.
- Lead the annual business planning and reporting cycle.
- Act as lead advisor for legal compliance, managing external legal advice as needed.
- Line manage, support, and develop the Finance and Operations team.
- Represent The Girls’ Network at external events and collaborating with key stakeholders.
Finance
- Ensure consistent delivery and quality of finance operations, including transactions processing, management accounts, budgets, and annual accounts.

Human Resources and Working Practices

The White Rose Forest (WRF) is the Community Forest for North and West Yorkshire and was voted Community Forest of the Year in 2024, in recognition of our leading role within the England’s Community Forests network. The White Rose Forest Development Manager is a new role that will be responsible for the development and delivery of a new fundraising function and strategy for the White Rose Forest, with support from the White Rose Forest Programme Director, the wider White Rose Forest team, partners and other stakeholders.
We are looking for a confident and experienced fundraiser who can draw on their previous record of success in a similar role to build relationships with a range of potential funders and secure the best opportunities to grow our non-Government project and unrestricted income. From setting up a charitable function for the White Rose Forest to developing our fundraising strategy, you will have the exciting opportunity to shape this new role. You will also be able to call on the expertise and experience within the Community Forest Trust and our England’s Community Forests network to support your work.
The Development Manager will be employed through the Community Forest Trust on behalf of the White Rose Forest and will work as part of the WRF core team. The post holder will have access to all systems available to the wider team, and training opportunities as required.
The Development Manager, as with all members of the central WRF team, will work from home without an office base. However, there is the requirement to attend monthly meetings in locations spread across North and West Yorkshire and at other times as required by the needs of the organisation. This is the opportunity to play an influential and impactful role in one of the most important causes of our generation – the climate emergency. Trees will enable 25% of the UK's 2050 net zero ambition and this role sits at the heart of this, supporting one of the UK’s largest woodland creation partnerships, England’s Community Forests.
The Community Forest Trust (CFT) is a charity that supports, enables and champions England’s Community Forests (ECFs). Across England there are 15 Community Forests that deliver social, economic, and environmental impact through woodland creation and restoration. In 2024/2025 they will plant over 2.5 million trees, most of which are funded through Defra’s national tree planting programme, the Nature for Climate Fund Programme.
The Managing Director will have the drive, rigour, and organisational and stakeholder management skills to develop and deliver a new CFT Business Plan. The current Business Plan was developed in 2022 and runs to March 2025. It has now been delivered.
The Managing Director will be responsible for providing the overall leadership and management of CFT and ensure effective governance and compliance with all legal requirements. To fulfil this aim, the Managing Director must ensure that robust structures and systems are in place to deliver CFT’s strategic priorities and CFT’s charitable aims and objectives.
A few key responsibilities of the role include:
- Take ownership of delivering the future direction and shape of CFT and deliver the CFT vision

To be successful in the role, the postholder must have previous senior management and leadership experience gained at an organisation of comparable scale and complexity.
