To help achieve this we are significantly expanding our peer educator initiative, an evidence-based and multi award winning model to engage and reach underserved communities, support health awareness and literacy and instigate behavioural change; delivered by trusted, trained peer educators through attendance at events and community spaces. We aim to scale up the roll out and adoption of peer educators within the care pathway across the UK, with a particular focus on improving early detection and diagnosis of chronic kidney disease and associated conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. 
 
This new post will play a significant role in the growth of the peer education programme and the initial focus of the role will be to:   

• Coordinate the development and delivery of the Peterborough peer educator project 
• Support the development and delivery of the UK wide peer educator programme

 
You will have knowledge of health inequalities and experience in effective community outreach and engagement as well as experience of project delivery, ideally in a health-related role. In addition, you will have clinical experience in a related area.

Aftercare Manager - Community

At Thames Valley Air Ambulance, we know that everything can change in an instant. We want to give everyone in our community the best chance of surviving and recovering from their emergency.

Since August 2018 Thames Valley Air Ambulance (TVAA) has provided an Aftercare service to support our patients and their loved ones after the acute phase of their injury or illness. 

The TVAA Aftercare Service offers support and guidance to patients and their families. The service offers former patients and those close to them, help, emotional support, and advice, usually following their discharge from hospital. This is a bespoke service as the needs of patients and their families can vary considerably. It can involve meeting a patient and ‘filling in the gaps’ of the treatment that was provided as they may not be able to remember. It could involve meeting a bereaved family or facilitating a reunion of a patient and the crew that provided them with care. It can also involve signposting to other services and charities where a need is identified for more specific support. 

This is an exciting time of growth for Thames Valley Air Ambulance as we embark on the delivery of our new organisational strategy. One of the core goals of our new organisational strategy is that ‘We care beyond the scene’ and in order to be able to grow with the organisation, the Aftercare team is expanding.

This is an exciting opportunity for a committed individual to become part of the Aftercare Team in the position of Aftercare Manager - Community. You will be an integral part of the Aftercare service focusing on helping our patients transition back into their community as they recover. Sadly, the reality is that some of our patients due to the severity of the illness and injuries we attend to don’t survive and so we also work very closely with people who have been bereaved in the community.

You will be predominantly based in the community visiting with our patients, their loved ones, the bereaved and bystanders in their community setting. As such, we’re looking for someone who has the experience and confidence of operating autonomously in the community but equally relishes being part of a respected wider team working towards a common goal. You should also be confident communicating via the telephone and other virtual means.

TVAA provides critical care to the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. This means that you will need to be confident driving in this footprint, in order for us to see our patients in their preferred environment.

You should have a strong clinical background and although this will not be a clinical position, you will need to be adept at tailoring your approach when discussing and explaining complex and sensitive clinical information to our patients often when they are at their most vulnerable. 

You will forge strong links with your Aftercare colleagues, clinical teams and other members of the charity to help provide appropriate opportunities for our patients and their loved ones to engage with Thames Valley Air Ambulance when they wish to support us in our work.

The membership of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) constitutes a preeminent source of statistical expertise. Members work with RSS staff to support our work across areas such as policy development, education, training, statistical communication, and statistical literacy. Communicating what we do is important to ensure that our work has impact, and that our members are informed. 

Job Purpose:

The main purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate communications activities across the Society’s policy and external affairs activities, ensuring that our work is communicated strategically and visible to appropriate audiences.

Key responsibilities:

Understanding opportunities and the changing external environment  

• Develop our understanding of the preferences and needs of our key internal and external audiences to better align our policy and external affairs communications to those preferences and needs. 
• Monitor and respond to emerging trends to ensure our communications channels and content for policy and external affairs remain timely and relevant.
• Build a network of key contacts across critical and adjacent organisations to maximise potential routes into influencing decision-making and make the best use of resources through collaborative working. 

Development of strategies and plans

• Lead on strategic communication of the Society’s campaign priorities
• Contribute to the development of the Society’s communications strategy across media, social media and communications planning.
• Work closely with colleagues across the organisation to maximise the communications value of the Society’s key policy and external affairs outputs and activities.
• Contribute to costed plans for communications campaigns that meet key strategic goals and include monitoring for impact.

Media relations

• Lead on the Society’s media relations work – proactively identify and exploit appropriate media opportunities to promote campaign priorities, drafting media statements and managing launches and announcements.
• Develop and maintain relationships with journalists across our key topic areas and respond to press queries. 
• Expertly advise, assist and brief the Society’s key spokespeople in respect of media relations issues and opportunities. 
• Manage, and develop the Society’s statistical ambassador scheme, supporting individuals and ensuring we have a pipeline of spokespeople that reflects the diversity of the data professions.

Content creation and editorial

• Develop communications content including blogs, press statements, posts and thought pieces to communicate our campaigns and policy work. 
• Contribute to the operation of the Society’s social media accounts, working with wider staff to ensure we are reflecting the breadth of the Society’s activities across the various platforms.
• Produce write-ups of events and roundtables.

External affairs

• Work with the CEO and Head of Policy and Advocacy to identify and develop relationships with external stakeholders, both UK-based and international and across government, civil society, academia and business, acting as a convenor, trusted advisor and critical friend. 
• Lead on the Society’s statistical excellence awards programme, including developing and maintaining relationships with awards sponsors to ensure the awards are both impactful and financially sustainable.
• Lead on the planning and delivery of policy focused events 
• Support the publication, launch and dissemination of relevant outputs across the policy team, and work with colleagues to ensure relevant and timely and communication of policy positions to support policy and advocacy objectives. 
• Maintain a database of relevant stakeholders.

Management

• Monitor and report on progress and performance against targets. 
• Project manage campaigns, external affairs and communications activities, ensuring that work is appropriate, of high quality, and sufficient volume to maintain presence and reputation. 
• Manage the budget for the communications function.

Interfaces with other teams and groups 

• Contribute to a cross-RSS communications group to share comms plans and outputs and identify opportunities for synergy and collaboration. 
• Provide support to key Society groups, for example the Campaigns Advisory Group. 
• Work with staff responsible for business development to pursue sponsorship opportunities where appropriate. 
• Engage with teams across the organisation to identify comms opportunities to advance our campaign priorities.

Person Specification

• Significant relevant experience in media relations and external affairs

Working for the RSS

Pension and benefits

Our defined contribution pension scheme can be joined after three months in post. Your contributions of up to 8% of salary will be double matched by the Society (making a maximum contribution by the Society of 16%). A training budget, season ticket loan, cycle to work scheme and employee assistance programme are also available. 

Location

The RSS office is in central London. We offer flexible working arrangements, and this is a hybrid role with a minimum two days a week working in the office. In person attendance for certain meeting is required, including all-staff / team meetings and governance / committee meetings that take place in person. Limited travel within the UK and internationally may be required.

Working hours

35 per week full-time. Applications for job shares, part-time and flexible working will also be considered. The post-holder will be the point of contact for any out-of-office hours press queries. 

Holidays

25 days per annum, plus bank holidays and an additional shut down between Christmas and New Year.

About the role

With strong marketing experience, you can skilfully plan and deliver campaigns across online and offline channels to reach targets. You have experience developing engaging direct response campaigns and excellent copywriting skills to create materials for different channels and audiences.

Passionate, creative, and detail-oriented, you bring exceptional project management skills and a drive to make a meaningful impact. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, working flexibly and adapting as needed.

Your project management experience enables you to oversee multiple campaigns while collaborating confidently with agencies, stakeholders, and teams to deliver quality work on time. A strong understanding of KPIs allows you to evaluate and optimize campaigns, applying insights to improve future performance. These skills also equip you to manage, support, and develop the Community & Events Officer.

Our mission at St. Hilda’s East is to equip our service users with the resilience to navigate modern life. We welcome everyone into our spaces and work together to deliver engaging activities, promote social contact and ultimately enrich lives. 

Located in Tower Hamlets, we welcome people of all ages to our large, friendly community centre in Shoreditch where we offer a wide range of activities promoting wellbeing and social connections. Our services include sensory play for Under-5’s, youth programmes, wellbeing activities for those experiencing mental health issues, bilingual advice, and activities to reduce social isolation and enhance physical and mental wellbeing for older people. We also run a day centre in Shadwell, where we care for elders from the Bangladeshi and other communities. 

We employ over 40 staff and engage about 65 volunteers each year. In a recent survey of our staff, more than three-quarters reported St Hilda's as a great place to work, and this role will help embed best practice relating to employment and volunteering to ensure we can build upon this positivity. The postholder will work closely with our Senior Leadership Team and the Board, including a Trustee who has several decades experience as a HR manager and consultant. The role would highly suit someone in the early stages of their career in HR wishing to expand upon their experience or, alternatively, someone with a career in HR behind them, looking for a change of scene and to get involved in a mission driven charity. 

The postholder will provide support and guidance on HR matters to all staff and managers, helping to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture. Our newly refreshed strategic priorities include a commitment to increasing volunteer participation within the charity’s work, and the postholder will play a key role in implementing this priority by improving our procedures and enhancing our capacity.     

This job is for you, if you: 

• Have at least 2 years’ experience in HR administration and practice, ideally within the charity sector.
• A good working knowledge of employment legislation and best practice in people management. 
• The ability and passion to drive forward an agenda around staff and volunteer engagement and wellbeing. 
• Ability to write organisational policies.
• Demonstrable knowledge of best practice around volunteer management, or the ability to learn quickly.
