The newly scoped CEO role in our vision-focussed charity is one of many challenges. Despite having doubled its outputs in the last 2 years, the charity acknowledges there is still a great job of work to do to prepare itself for even greater demand in its services - without necessarily a proportionate increase in its budgets. This role is about leading and enabling the incredible team of people on to even greater levels of already-strong performance. So we're looking for an accomplished leader and not just a great manager. We're looking for someone who can lead from both the front - and from within. This will be someone who is as comfortable sitting and engaging with our beneficiaries - primarily homeless people and those with previous convictions, as they are creating and delivering highly polished, compelling public event and funder and stakeholder-focussed presentations. We are looking for someone who understands the balance of external and internal focus required to ensure both good governance and team wellbeing (as they work in often challenging circumstances) and the ambition to keep developing existing and new external partnerships. With a strong start to its ambitious Corporate Partnership programme, commercial and/or business experience is highly desirable as well as a proven track record in creating and optimising new funding channels.

About Us

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.

The role

Is leading the charity through its next phases of development as it prepares itself for year on year increases in demand with a focus on delivering the charity’s future resilience plan (Project 12/25). The CEO is accountable for overall charity performance (financial, operational, governance, compliance), team (paid and volunteer) support and development. Additionally, there are a wide range of community and external partner relationships to manage and develop. Ultimately this role sets the tone for the charity, one of both compassion and ambition to improve the lives of the people who need us. This is primarily an on-site role, with occasional opportunity to work flexibly.

About You

You have a stable CV that demonstrates you have built and led successful teams and enabled growth and/or transformation for your organisation – ideally in an equivalent charity/non-profit environment. You can evidence strong team leadership and results across a wide range of business functions which will need to include income generation, managing budgets and business operations. You live within - or know well, West/Central London, are passionate about improving the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people and can lead multi-functional teams through a blend of 121 coaching, training and ensuring a ‘we can do this’ culture across the charity. You are an accomplished and visionary public speaker and presenter, able to articulate both the journey we’re undertaking and the support/input we need to get there.

Human Practice Foundation (HPF) is searching for a UK Country Manager to join the team and further establish the organisation in this market. The charity’s mission is to work sustainably and holistically to build schools and bring 1,000,000 children into a safe and empowering educational environment, with a focus in Nepal and Kenya. 

The UK Country Manager will prioritise continuing the growth of the charity’s funds and will work with an existing network of trusts & foundations and philanthropic individuals, as well as continuing to spread HPF’s message.

Role purpose and dimensions:

• Design and implement a UK Fundraising Strategy, particularly aimed at foundations, institutions, corporates and High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWI) in the UK, capable of delivering significant income growth over the next 3-5 years.
• Independently manage a portfolio of prospects and funders, as well as high level volunteers, with the capacity and propensity to give significant funds in support of HPF’s work. This will involve managing and meeting all application deadlines.
• Identify, research, qualify and manage a pipeline of funding prospects.
• Develop a range of funding proposals, pitches and appeals, to successfully solicit funds.
• Design and implement a donor cultivation and stewardship programme, including a combination of events, proposals, reporting, communications and visits.
• Network on behalf of the foundation, representing HPF at the highest levels and at a wide range of events, working with existing and developing new contacts to secure vital introductions.
• Oversee the governance of the UK operation, including all statutory reporting requirements.
• Regular narrative, financial and KPI reporting to the UK Board and to Copenhagen, including provision of board papers ahead of/ presentations at Board meetings.
• Contribute towards key global initiatives and projects, and lead on Foundations fundraising across HPF.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

• Senior fundraising professional with proven leadership skills and at least three-years’ experience in a not-for-profit organisation
• Strong track record of securing significant donations and grants from foundations and/or institutions (six-figures +). References will be required.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of delivering successful funding applications, proposals and pitches
• Self-starter, able to operate independently, whilst also able to engage meaningfully in virtual team working with other senior colleagues.
• A proactive networker, able to act as a spokesperson and ambassador for HPF at the highest levels.
• Experienced relationship manager, able to build and maintain relationships with funders, as well as experience working with senior staff, board members and volunteers to cultivate donors.
• Demonstrable experience of setting and achieving ambitious fundraising strategies and plans.
• Able to work at both a strategic and operational level.
• Experience of working closely with and reporting to Boards of Trustees.

Desirable

• Strong affinity with HPF mission, values and approach. 
• Track record of securing significant funds from corporates and HNWIs 
• Understanding of charity/fundraising legislation and codes of practice.
• Understanding of good governance processes and the role of charity Boards.

The context for this role: 

This new position, created to lead HPF’s mission in the UK, and lead Trust and Foundation fundraising efforts globally, is a fantastic opportunity for a self-starter to build on HPF’s success and grow its income from UK and international foundations, institutions and corporations, as well as UK-based high net worth individuals. 

HPF seeks a highly motivated, experienced and successful fundraising professional with the vision and skills to develop and deliver a new three-year fundraising strategy, taking UK income from £270k per annum to £500k+. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating at both a strategic and operational level, with no hesitation to roll up their sleeves and be ‘hands on’.

We are excited to be recruiting a Philanthropy Manager to join our Fundraising Team. The Direct Marketing Manager, Retention, is a newly developed role at the DEC, responsible for shaping and delivering new and existing supporter journeys for DEC individual, community and legacy donors, and leading a programme of improvement across all major contact points between the DEC and the public.

The Direct Marketing Manager, Retention will:

• Contribute to and develop DEC direct marketing strategies, including the refreshing, implementation and analysis of the DEC’s segmentation, to maximise future income and continually improve the retention of individual supporters for future emergency appeals,
• Lead on the production of retention and reporting back materials for individual and community supporters,
• Manage the development and maintenance of specific supporter journeys,

Key responsibilities include:

Strategy and Planning

• Develop and implement the direct marketing retention strategy, ensuring that past learnings are built upon, and new ideas are tested.
• Develop and implement specific audience journeys for segments across both the life cycle of a DEC appeal and between appeals.

• Build an improved supporter journey strategy for new, repeat, and lapsed donors.
• Lead, design, and monitor the collection of audience insight during appeals.

Fundraising

• Develop the DEC’s donor journeys for individuals and community supporters, monitoring the development of segments and the engagement of repeat donors.
• Provide analysis during and following an appeal of performance to measure and report performance against key indicators and develop recommendations for improving impact in the next appeal.
• Support the stewardship of community fundraisers and groups in conjunction with the Supporter Services team.

Networking and building relationships

• Develop excellent working relationships with the DEC’s suppliers including creative agencies, media agencies, SMS and email suppliers, and the print/mailing house.
• Work with permanent and temporary staff at the DEC during appeals to maximise the success of the appeal.

We are recruiting for a Temporary special events officer for a high profile health charity . Working with the Special Events Manager the Special Events Officer will support in the creation and management of a special events programme aimed at engaging major donors, corporates, and trusts.

Office-based in London with some flexibility to work remotely. During event days out of hours work will be required.

The Role
Supporting the co-ordination and delivery of our high-quality events programme.
Working alongside staff, committees and senior volunteers to raise income from special events.
Support the special events manager in correctly tracking and recording income and expenditure for events and ensuring they are delivered within agreed budgets.
Monitoring and reporting on events.
Cross divisional collaboration and event delivery.
Leading on business-as-usual events and supporting on larger fundraising events.
Working with event suppliers, helping to source and secure high-end venues within budget, as well as working with production companies and catering, ensuring we work with the best and most cost-effective suppliers.
Support fundraisers to deliver income from high-net-worth audiences

The Candidate

Overall purpose

The Philanthropy Manager will manage and steward a portfolio of funders and donors – across trusts and foundations, statutory sources and major donors – to secure annual and multi-year gifts in support of Breaking Barriers’ vision. As well as managing relationships with our existing donors there will be a focus on creating new relationships through proactive prospecting and developing a long-term strategic approach to stewardship and relationship development.

You will be an ambitious, enthusiastic, energetic, and autonomous fundraiser with a demonstrable passion for supporting people from a refugee background. You will have a strong track record of high-value relationship management and fundraising, ideally specialising in Trusts, Statutory, Major Donor fundraising or a related area. We are looking for someone who can successfully secure and steward gifts of 5 figures and above – so evidence of stewarding high-value relationships and high-quality written skills are key. You will collaborate with additional fundraisers across Trusts, Statutory, Corporate and Major Gifts to coordinate approaches and maximise opportunities across all functions.

We welcome applicants with relevant transferable skills from other sectors and other areas of fundraising but a strong knowledge of the fundamentals of grant fundraising is essential. We are looking for a passionate individual who can get people excited about the work we do and who wants to make a difference in the lives of individuals from a refugee background. You will share our energy and determination, and will be attracted by the idea of working in a team with big ambitions, and in which you will have the opportunity to grow and develop. We encourage creative thinking and new ideas so a proactive individual who is able to spot opportunities and take the initiative would thrive in this role.
