Content Writer
We are looking for an experienced Content Writer to work for an exciting not-for-profit organisation.
Position: Content Writer
Location: London/Hybrid
Salary: £25,000 - £28,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time (35 hours/week)

About the role:
Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Content Writer supports the delivery of the organisation’s editorial activities and publications, in particular Regulatory Rapporteur, the organisation’s international peer-reviewed journal for its members.
This includes drafting and editing content and managing its distribution across the organisation’s publishing and communication channels. As part of this, they will work closely with Regulatory Rapporteur’s external Editorial Board, as well as colleagues in the organisation’s Marketing Team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist in the editorial production of Regulatory Rapporteur
- Contribute to sub-editing and layout of articles in the content management system of Regulatory Rapporteur’s online platform
- Proof-read and finalise pages for online publication
- Contribute to the admin processes related to the journal’s production
- Provide copywriting and editorial support across the organisation’s digital channels and lead on the delivery of corporate collateral and print materials
- Contribute to the delivery and development of a wide range of corporate communications across all channels
- Source and write/repurpose news stories and messaging for targeted audiences and channels
- Understand the importance of design and imagery to support messaging
- Work with other internal teams on editorial opportunities
- Produce a range of membership newsletters, both general and specialist interest
- Assist reporting on appropriate events
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will need experience with editorial processes, and be able to provide outstanding web, editorial and corporate messaging in a B2B or association environment with a scientific focus. You will need to be able to work in a small team, be flexible in accommodating changing priorities and thrive in an ever-changing environment.
You will also bring with you the following skills and experience:
- Be educated to at least a degree level and have experience in copy editing for different media.
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop and Microsoft Office and be able to use CRM databases and content management systems.
- Experience of writing/repurposing content, including industry news
- Have creative and imaginative input whilst ensuring attention to detail and quality focus
- Have an analytical outlook and a systematic approach to work and managing tight deadlines.

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices are a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. We support families across Surrey and Southwest London from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.
At the heart of the hospice are our dedicated clinical staffs. Their exceptional commitment and professionalism is commented on by so many of the supported children and their families.
It costs £10.5 million a year to maintain our current level of care. Only 30% of that income comes from government funding via the NHS or local authorities, so we rely on our supporters’ generosity to keep the service running. We employ 175 staff, including 98 nursing and medical staff, providing hospice and community-based services to around 700 families.
Predominantly we work with families living in the Northwest and Southwest of London and Surrey, although will accept children outside these geographical areas if they do not have access to specialist palliative care support locally. We have a reputation for delivering high quality care. We have a CQC rating of ‘Outstanding’
Introduction
Retail and Volunteers Team: Our Retail and Volunteers Team manages our charity shops and volunteer programs, which play a crucial role in supporting our mission. They recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to staff our shops and assist with various tasks, such as sorting donations and serving customers. Additionally, they oversee the operations of our retail outlets, ensuring that they are efficiently run to generate income for our hospices.
Part 1: Job Profile
a) Main purpose of job
In the absence of the manager or assistant managers to lead a team of volunteers to maximise sales, deliver excellent customer service and ensure that the shop premises and assets are maintained to a high standard, according to legal requirements and Shooting Star Children’s Hospices (SSCH) policies and procedures.
Decision Making Authority
The post holder will be required to make decisions on the quality, and suitability of donations before they are placed on sale. Depending on the length of the cover period they may be required to dress the windows. (They will follow price guidelines and existing display layout throughout the shop.)
The post holder will work with eCommerce Manager to decide if items would be suitable for selling at a higher price on eBay or through a promotional event and set these aside for the manager of the shop to deal with on their return.
The post holder will support with rostering of the team of volunteers where necessary and delegation of duties and jobs.

a) Customer Service – 25%
• Dealing with customer queries and complaints courteously and effectively
• Informing the Head of Volunteer Development and Retail of any serious incidents or complaints
• Ensure that any refunds are processed in line with SSCH refunds policy
• Ensure that the advertised trading hours of the shop are adhered to
• Ensure relevant documents are completed in the event of an incident/accident and reported accordingly
b) Processing donations – 25%
• Process all donations as soon as possible, prioritising Gift Aid and high value items
• Prepare and clean items appropriately for display
• Oversee the recycling and arranging of collections
• Promote Gift Aid is at all available opportunities
• Ensure that the ongoing need for donations is publicised
• Price and ticket all items according to pricing strategy for the shop and ensure that all pricing and ticketing complies with legislation
• Ensure that stock is properly managed and rotated in accordance with latest guidance
• Identify high value or specialist items that may need to be sold in another capacity
c) Merchandising, display and promotion of stock, maintenance of high standards throughout the shop – 20%
• Ensure that all merchandise is displayed attractively and that the window display is eye-catching
• Ensure that there are high standards of cleanliness and tidiness in all areas of the shop
• Publicise promotions and special events
• Support and promote Corporate events as required
• Purchase consumables and stock items in a timely manner
d) Sales and financial reporting – 10%
• In the absence of the manager/assistant ensure that daily/weekly financial reports are submitted and that any discrepancies are investigated
• Keep the Head of Volunteer Development and Retail fully informed and updated regarding the performance of the shop and any issues which may impact this
• Ensure that the Manager/Assistant Manager and shop volunteer team are kept informed of the shop’s performance
• Ensure that the till procedures are always followed by volunteers
• Ensure that issues affecting trade are monitored and communicated

About the Area Fundraiser role:

- Proactively raising income from the local community including individuals, friends groups, corporates, community groups and schools.
- Initiating and developing innovative fundraising initiatives and events which capture the imagination of our supporters, adding diversity to community, corporate and individual fundraising.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated individual, who has a flexible attitude to lead on our translation service within the Fund.
The Fund is a truly bilingual organisation. Our principle is to treat the Welsh and English languages equally by offering a bilingual service to our customers and grant holders on a day-to-day basis.
You will work independently alongside numerous teams to ensure an effective and accurate translation service for the whole organisation. You will ensure that all our online and off-line materials, including new web pages, publications and corporate initiatives, are translated in accordance with agreed deadlines.
You will work closely with our Welsh Language Officer to ensure that the Fund fulfils its statutory legal requirements to comply with the Welsh Language Standards under the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011.
The ability to speak and write in Welsh fluently and confidently is essential for this post.

About the role
Sightsavers Nigeria has an exciting and fulfilling opportunity to join the team as the Country Fundraiser, where you will secure funding from new and existing foundations and corporate partners as well as managing and maintaining donor relationships to achieve annual income targets and deliver significant year-on-year long term growth.
The Country Fundraiser will engage with high net worth individuals within Nigeria that are able to contribute towards annual planned funding growth that will be toward vital programmes in Nigeria, they will also collaborate with other fundraising teams in Sightsavers to implement the Global Fundraisings team's plans for Nigeria.
The duties of the Country Fundraiser include:
Proposal Development:
Develop and deliver high quality funding proposals to prospect pipelines and targets of high value, as well as new and existing corporate partners and Nigerian foundations, supporting the implementation of the overall Sightsavers Nigeria Foundation funding strategy. With direct involvement in the planning, coordination, and production of proposal writing.
Building strategic relationships:
Develop and maintain key external and internal relationships critical to fundraising activities towards achieving planned objectives.
Individual Giving:
Develop key external and internal relationships critical for the achievement of planned objectives with these high-net-worth donors. To take personal responsibility for delivering agreed targets in line with the team strategy of securing planned income.
Strategy and planning:
Develop and implement vital operational plans in support of fundraising strategies, including creation of bespoke development plans to engage new prospects, and to encourage growth in income from existing corporate partners and Nigerian foundation portfolios. Identify and research new prospects to introduce into pipeline.
Contract Management and Reporting:
Manage funding contracts and grants for agreed Sightsavers' projects to deliver on internal and external reporting requirements:
Work with the Country Director and Board of Sightsavers Nigeria Foundation on income, key performance indicators, prospecting, and account planning.
Report to donors on project delivery.
Develop communication plans to support corporate funding partnerships.
Market understanding:
Develop and maintain a broad knowledge and understanding of the corporate social responsibility agenda of corporate organisations/partners in Nigeria and advise the country office on potentials areas of collaboration and fundraising.

As the ideal candidate you will posses extensive fundraising experience in Nigeria that has involved high level relationships and high net worth individuals. You will have proven success in cultivating new relationships with prospective supporters/clients and maintaining relationships with existing supporters/clients and have a background in fundraising from corporate/foundation fundraising and/or major individual donors and/or significant experience of working at senior level, in a fundraising, marketing or sales capacity.
Further requirements include:
Experience working at senior level externally to develop high value relationships.
A proven track record of meeting or exceeding financial targets and soliciting gifts from donors, or business in a commercial setting.
Knowledge of the principles of corporate, foundation and major donor fundraising.

BEO is a civil rights charity that was set up to challenge and dismantle systemic racism. We work with Black communities by using campaigning, policy and research in conjunction with the law to effect meaningful change.
Legal services are central to BEO. We are therefore looking for someone of 4yrs PQE who has experience in social welfare, human rights, public and administration law and who seeks an opportunity to use those skills specifically in the area of challenging systemic racism.
In the last year we have been developing our relationships with partner organisations, ranging from community groups, our stakeholder law firms, NGOs and law firms experienced in equality and discrimination law, to deliver legal services. The role holder will be required to build on and expand these relationships so that BEO can offer quality legal advice to Back communities in the nations and regions across the United Kingdom.
We are building our internal legal team so that we can provide targeted legal support to Black communities. We are looking for someone to work with the Director of Legal Services and Policy to ensure that high quality legal advice, support and representation are the hallmark of BEO.
