We are the University of Manchester Students’ Union (UMSU), the largest Students’ Union in the UK, representing over 48,000 students. We’re looking for a Senior Student Groups Coordinator to join our team and help student groups flourish by offering guidance, administrative support, and practical solutions.

As Senior Student Groups Coordinator, you will be a key player in empowering students to lead societies and networks that shape the vibrant student community. Your role will be vital in ensuring that student groups have the tools, space, and financial support they need to run successful events, trips, and other activities. From handling day-to-day queries to managing compliance with health and safety standards, you'll be the go-to person for student leaders looking to create engaging and inclusive group activities.

In this role, you will provide one-to-one support and guidance to student leaders, assisting them in effectively managing their groups. You’ll handle the administration of grants, ensuring that student groups make the best use of available funding, and collaborate with internal teams, such as finance, to manage budgets and keep financial records up to date. You’ll be responsible for ensuring compliance with risk management and health and safety protocols for all group activities, including events and trips. You’ll also develop resources such as toolkits and guides to help student leaders navigate group management and event planning. In addition, you’ll work closely with other departments to support a range of exciting events across the Union.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need proven experience in delivering excellent customer service and providing support in a busy, fast-paced environment. You’ll have strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with students and colleagues. Knowledge of risk management, compliance, and health and safety protocols is essential. You should be competent in using digital tools such as Microsoft Office, Teams, and expense management systems. The ability to manage multiple competing priorities while maintaining high standards of service will also be key.

The salary for this role is between £26,640 - £29,820. The position is permanent and full-time (35 hours per week), with hybrid working options available. You will have the flexibility to work from home when duties allow. The role also offers a generous benefits package, including 30 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays, employer pension contributions, and free tickets to Manchester Academy gigs.

Shannon Trust Facilitator / Library Assistant HMP Ashfield
  
Do you want to join an organisation committed to improving literacy and numeracy skills amongst people in prison?
 
Shannon Trust provides peer-led literacy and numeracy programmes in a number of prisons across the country.  We now have the opportunity to work with Serco ESW to provide a service at HMP Ashfield. Working closely with the prison and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our literacy and numeracy programme at HMP Ashfield, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn whilst also providing daily assistance in the running of the library. 
 
Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach. 
 
This role will be prison-based. We provide a specialist 1:1 service for young women and girls aged 11-25 living, studying or based in close proximity to Barnet and neighbouring boroughs. 

Our long term, 18 months support, programme engages young women and girls with direct experiences of relationship abuse, sexual violence, intra-familial abuse, exploitation, and/or where there are significant risk indicators present in the young persons life that may increase their exposure to harm. 

Young women and girls are referred through professional, self and peer or familial pathways and will be engaged in weekly or fortnightly support. The service is offered from a space safe for them, including our community spaces, at their home or within their educational setting. 

How our service is different from traditional IDVA models: 

• We offer long term support for up to 18 months, enabling you to build trusted and safe relationships that exceed immediate, crisis intervention and also focus on implementing a support package for continued development once a survivor has achieved immediate safety

• We keep our caseloads low and manageable, supporting no more than 10 young women and girls at any one time. This has been proven to reduce stress and burn out, whilst increasing your capacity to create a targeted and needs-based response for each young person

• Our interventions are holistic and flexible, ranging from trips and outings, to visits in school, at home or a safe local community space. This approach enables you to have more freedom over how the intervention is shaped and delivered, reducing rigidity and any feelings the relationship is impersonal 

• We offer access to a range of healing opportunities outside of the 1:1 Support, including fortnightly group trips with other young survivors to establish connection and reduce isolation, fortnightly group wellbeing workshops, access to Youth Employment opportunities within our creative education curriculum and opportunities to shape the organisation through our independent Youth Board.

*you’ll start at our entry point salary of £32,301 per annum, increasing to £34,320  after 6 months service and satisfactory performance and to £36,338 after a further 6 months.

With a new UK government, elections upcoming in Scotland and Wales, a new MS Society strategy in the wings for 2025, it’s an exciting time to join our campaigns team as we look to take our campaigning up a gear.

Whether it’s about making sure people access groundbreaking treatments, tackling the poverty people face when living with MS, or making sure the right support is there when people need it most, as a Senior Campaigns Officer you’ll be working directly on campaigns to empower, inspire and mobilise our community to become change makers.

Birmingham

You have an understanding of substance misuse and associated health and social issues and experience of working with young people in an addictions or social care setting.  All you need is the perfect environment to put your skills to great use. Welcome to Aquarius as a Practitioner.

Right now, we’re looking for a self-motivated individual to join us at our Grow Project in Birmingham. This innovative project is led by young people who are affected by drug or alcohol use, they learn how to grow their own food, cook healthy meals, make new friends and have the chance to work towards qualifications. Your challenge? To provide brief and long-term interventions which will incorporate outdoor spaces and activities that promote healthy lifestyles and reduce substance misuse. You will also develop care plans, provide case management, ensure integrated pathways and support the development of family intervention within the wider team. You will also allocate and oversee the work of peer mentors and volunteers as required.

An energetic and confident self-starter, you have a qualification in health/social care, youth and community care (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or above, DipSW, Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, Addiction Studies).  Alternatively, we’ll consider candidates with experience of working in the substance misuse field with a commitment to complete NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care. As well as good knowledge of alcohol/drug and health related issues, you're used to liaising with voluntary and statutory agencies and health professionals and comfortable engaging with clients in a variety of service delivery settings. What’s more, you have a flexible approach, a commitment to the principles of confidentiality and the ability to write client records and report and fulfil data requirements.

This is a fixed term contract until 31 August 2026 requiring the post holder to work 37 hours per week.

On 1st June 2024 Richmond Fellowship merged with Humankind to form a single organisation that provides the joined-up mental health, housing and drug and alcohol support we’ve all known has been needed for decades. At the same time, Aquarius became a subsidiary of Humankind, with no impact to terms and conditions of employment. In October 2024, Humankind was renamed Waythrough to reflect the new organisation, of which Aquarius will remain a subsidiary.
