The London Diocesan Fund (LDF) is seeking a Church Buildings Adviser – Buildings for Mission to play a key role within the Parish Property & Fundraising team, based from Pimlico, London!

Job Summary 

The Church Building Advisor (CBA) works within the Parish Property & Fundraising team to manage a small grants programme for eligible priority parishes, focusing on unlisted buildings in poor condition and areas of high deprivation. The objective is to support the improvement of building maintenance by distributing around 22 small grants to parishes over two years. 

The Church Buildings Support Officer will work closely with colleagues across the Parish Property & Fundraising directorate, including the Development & Fundraising Team, Church Buildings Advisers and Asset Managers, and teams with Archdeacons and Compassionate Communities, to deliver a well-rounded package of support for parishes to repair and improve their buildings. 

Job responsibilities 

• Support sustainability of LDF portfolio buildings. 

• Promote Capital Vision 2030 and Open Churches initiative. 

• Manage a small grants program: assess applications, evaluate outcomes, and adjust. 

• Advise PCCs on repair and maintenance projects. 

• Identify match funding with the fundraising team and record grants. 

• Guide PCCs on project development, work stages, and external funding. 

• Write technical briefs and support commissioning specialist advice. 

• Review construction documents and assist PCCs with procurement for projects up to £100k. 

• Organize site visits for building repair strategies. 

• Liaise with stakeholders like Historic England and local conservation officers. 

• Advise on green energy, suppliers, and tariffs. 

• Identify and communicate quick wins for carbon reduction. 

• Respond to queries on decarbonisation and heating solutions. 

• Collaborate with archdeacons and DAC members on casework. 

• As NZC lead, report progress, identify barriers, and suggest solutions.

Person Specification 

Essential 

• Experience working within one or all of the following:  Faculty Jurisdiction Rules, Town & Planning Act, or Listed Building Consent processes 

• Experience in project report writing

• Understanding of building construction and repair; Understanding principles & challenges of decarbonisation of both unlisted as well as heritage buildings 

• Good data and statistical analysis skills; ability to maintain systems to record and collate data in a manner transparent and clear to all team members

• Personable and able to work with people of all abilities and a variety of perspectives

• Organised and able to juggle multiple tasks; prioritise.   

Desirable 

• Building Surveyor in training, or Part 2 / 3 Architect, Prince2 certification

• Practical experience in working with historic buildings and methods of investigation, and specialist conservation work and maintenance

• Good knowledge of secular and ecclesiastical architectural history and associated technical language.

Project support

• Contribute to outreach to project stakeholders, Community Members, partners & event attendees, answering and directing queries and scheduling appointments and virtual/ in-person meetings

We exist to fund research into beating blood cancer. In the past 60 years, we’ve invested more than £500 million into blood cancer research which has led to improved treatments and saved lives. Everything we do in the next five years will be based on a single aim – to stop people dying of blood cancer or the side effects of its treatments. We want to put people affected by blood cancer at the centre of everything we do.  

We have an ambitious strategy to increase the annual investment in research. The Clinical Research Programmes Lead will lead the development and delivery of a new large-scale clinical research funding scheme. We plan to launch a major fundraising appeal focused on funding multi-arm multi-stage clinical trials testing multiple interventions, which can make a step change in the treatment of the blood cancers with the poorest survival. The role will lead the development of the scope, guidance, forms and review process for the funding call, including establishing a Funding Committee. You will work closely with colleagues in the fundraising teams to ensure we have compelling information for cases for support that will underpin the major appeal.

We are seeking change in three principle areas:

• Tobacco-style legislation to restrict advertising for high carbon products, namely: airlines, airports, non-electric cars (especially SUVs) and fossil fuel companies
• Strengthening national planning regulations to protect our public spaces and neighbourhoods from the spread of intrusive, outdoor digital advertising screens.
• The introduction of policies to reduce demand for aviation in a fair and equitable manner, including a frequent flyer levy.

Working with others in the Possible team and our partner organisations on the Badvertising project Adfree Cities and New Weather Institute, you’ll keep on top of the latest developments in areas of sustainable transport, aviation and  public space planning policies. The Junction is an out of hours service, open 365 evenings a year, to support and assist individuals experiencing a mental health concern. The aim is to alleviate the need for people in the Swindon locality to access A&E acute mental health services and primary care GP services unnecessarily by managing the presenting symptoms/mental health crisis along with the triggers and context for that crisis. 

As a Wellbeing Practitioner, you will be providing a preventative, person centred approach to people accessing the service who may be experiencing a mental health crisis.

The Role 

The Youth Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for the delivery of Ocean Academy to 51,000 children and young people. This will be both through direct on the ground engagement, as well as growing our partnership portfolio by securing innovative partnerships and approaches to scale our impact in line with our Strategy. This role will also collect more content, case studies and testimonials from on the ground, to build storytelling of the programme.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will join a growing and ambitious Youth Engagement Team: building, scaling, and delivering a range of youth-focused programmes designed to educate, inspire, and mobilise young people around the world to tackle Ocean threats and safeguard our Ocean. They will be able to look at partnership potential across the Youth Engagement programmes offering, maximising our capacity, reach and impact.

In 2024 we will focus on the development and expansion of a series of Ocean delivery partnerships which will enable us to build greater scale, reach and impact with young people. Through access to our education resources and facilitation guides, including digital presentation and videos, we will enable our partners to deliver Ocean workshops and other specialist Ocean events to their own existing youth audiences.  

The successful candidate will be responsible for four key outcomes:

1. Seeking new Youth Engagement partners across Ocean Academy (OA) and Wavemakers (WM) and developing strong practical working partnerships.

2. The training and managing of partners to deliver and facilitate their own Ocean sessions across OA and WM.

3. Creative and proactive development of existing Ocean Academy engagement resources, including supporting the creation of a new digital home for these

4. The delivery of Ocean Academy interactive presentations to young people

In additional the role-holder will provide support to team members in their delivery of the following:

· Communication of project progress to key funding partners.

· Development of strategies to scale the programme and develop new funding opportunities

· Development of cross-programme, innovative youth engagement partnerships.

· Youth engagement comms support including creating content for social media, newsletters etc.

Skills & Experience Required 

Essential:

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the proven ability to engage, inspire and motivate young people and children aged 5 to 25

· Experience in managing youth programmes, including design, development, delivery, and evaluation

· Ability to manage and coordinate third-party partnerships to deliver innovative educational engagement programmes.

· Proven track record in using evaluation to improve services for young people

· Disciplined approach to project management and scheduled commitments

· Strategic mindset: able to create and notice opportunities for growth and work to innovate

· Experience in basic design skills: able to harness the power of digital platforms to amplify the voices of young people and create engaging learning resources

· Committed, flexible and motivated to travel extensively to deliver youth engagement sessions around the UK (75% travel required in the role)

· A valid driver’s license

· Understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities and inclusive practice

· Ability to work both autonomously and with others as part of a small Ocean Generation team with a big ambition

· A passion for the natural world and our Ocean! 

Desirable:

· Familiarity with Typeform, Mentimeter, Canva, Wordpress, Monday dot com

· Experience of working in remote or hybrid teams

· Experience of coaching and mentoring individual staff or teams

Conditions 

• Salary: £30,000

• Contract Type: This will be a full-time, permanent contract based on a 37.5-hour standard working week.

• Working Hours: We seek to offer employees maximum flexibility in their working lives and we are currently trialling a Flexible Working arrangement. Staff have elected to commit to Core Working Hours of 10am to 4pm, UK time, Monday to Thursday with remaining hours to be worked as best suits the individuals’ personal circumstances.

• Working environment: We are a virtual team, working from home to maximise our investment in our charitable aims. Nevertheless, we highly value the benefits that face-to-face working contributes to personal well-being and team effectiveness. We meet as a full organisation in person 1-2 times a year and we also encourage staff to meet individually, or in small working groups on a more regular basis.

• Location: Since we do not have a permanent office location, you may be based anywhere within the UK and you would be expected to work remotely. 

• Travel: This role will require extensive UK travel (+/- 75%) including overnight stays. We are looking for someone who is flexible and excited to take this on. We will cover all reasonable travel and accommodation expenditure required in your role. 

• Holiday: 25 days per year pro-rata plus Bank Holidays (3 days of which to be taken off between Christmas and New Year) 

• Pension: Ocean Generation operates a workplace pension scheme to which all eligible employees will be automatically enrolled.

This role will work closely with the Head of UK Social Impact, the Programmes, Policy and Impact Directorate, the wider organisation, and Network Partners to improve Carers Trust's monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) practice and our wider evidence and impact proposition. This role will oversee a range of evaluation projects including communicating our impact and insights in a timely way, through research and data analysis and visualisation.

Understanding the evidence for the effectiveness of our work is vital to Carers Trust mission and strategy. Impact evidence will be fundamental to shaping our programmes, informing our advocacy and shaping our internal culture.
