We are seeking an experienced, well organised self-starter to fulfil the role of HR Advisor at the TSSA. You will play a vital role in providing comprehensive HR support and guidance to both employees and management across all aspects of HR through the full life cycle. A commitment/ empathy to the trade union movement is needed, along with knowledge of trade unions and collective bargaining. A knowledge of the transport and travel industries would be highly beneficial too.

You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with employment laws, promoting best practices, and contributing to the development and implementation of HR initiatives that align with TSSA’s strategic objectives.

Do you have?

A CIPD level 5 qualification in HR Management, or equivalent knowledge gained through experience, with excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels.

Are a competent and a confident IT user, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, HR and Payroll databases. Have a keen eye for details with excellent accuracy and precision. Able to interpret policy and procedure to provide clear and consistent advice on a full range of HR matters. Can prioritise and manage own workload and meet deadlines. Importantly, able to work with complete confidentiality and with sensitive information. Have a ‘can do’ and outcome focused attitude and approach.

Demonstrable experience in providing expert advice and guidance on a wide range of HR issues and experience of managing employee relations and casework, including handling sometimes difficult and sensitive situations and formal processes such as disciplinary, grievance and reviews. Experience in coaching and training managers to develop people manager skills. Self-motivated and resilient. Ensure ethical practices are adhered to within the HR function and lastly, act as a role model for staff behaviour and organisational culture.

About the role

Advocates support people to express their views, understand their rights and make informed decisions. Much of their work is with some of the most vulnerable in our society who cannot speak up for themselves and have no family members or friends who can do so. About the Organisation

Together We Learn is a small international development charity with a vision to break the cycle of poverty in Ethiopia by enabling disadvantaged children to access quality education.

We have been working closely with our Ethiopian partner organisation for over 25 years to achieve this. Our UK team is a small, close- knit team that supports the fundraising, international communications, and project delivery of the Ethiopian team.

Our approach is to work alongside state education infrastructure, addressing a range of needs related to access to and quality of education, as well as children’s wellbeing.

Our work with schools includes school infrastructure projects - providing safe, local schools - and supporting teachers with training and resources to inspire children to flourish in the classroom. We also work closely with the children, their families and communities to understand and address the issues they face at home and how these impact their ability to attend and concentrate in school.

We are at the start of a new strategic phase with a focus on building the capacity of our Ethiopian partner organisation to shift the power and be more locally-led in our work.

Sponsorship Coordinator

The Role: The Sponsorship Coordinator works closely with the Ethiopian team to facilitate sponsor communications and support the smooth delivery of our student sponsorship programme. They are responsible for reviewing and sending student updates collected by the team in Ethiopia to our international sponsor community; liaising with the Ethiopian team to deliver key sponsorship activities; and engaging new and existing sponsors in the sponsorship programme.

Reports to: Chief Executive
Hours: 15 hours per week (part-time role 40%)

Responsibilities

Ethiopia team liaison and sponsor communication (70%)

• Work closely with the Sponsorship Manager and Coordinators in Ethiopia to ensure the timely and effective delivery of sponsorship activities and reporting.
• Maintain good relationships with sponsors by responding to sponsor enquiries in a prompt and friendly manner and encourage continued support for the sponsorship programme through the provision of engaging, informative and culturally aware/sensitive student updates and newsletters.
• Manage a small pool of student volunteers to produce quality reports for sponsors.
• Facilitate additional monetary gifts from sponsors to their sponsored student including individual gifts, private school support and home improvement.
• Monitor sponsorship finances, including use of Salesforce, checking sponsorship payments are received and seeking to resolve any finance problems.
• Safeguard the data relating to sponsors and beneficiaries in line with the organisation’s policies.
• Assist in the promotion of the programme to recruit new sponsors and promote the sponsorship programme on occasion, through online initiatives or attending events.

Monitoring and evaluation (20%)

• Support monitoring and evaluation of the programme by ensuring the timely collection of data by the team in Ethiopia, collating, analysing and formatting data for review, leading discussions on impact review and supporting discussions for continuous programme development. Including managing office volunteers to support our work in these areas.
• Support the Ethiopian team to track and understand markers of good quality, sustainable programming and to continuously improve upon these.

Other (10%)

• Support with building the capacity of the Ethiopian team through working practices and training in relevant areas.
• Support the Ethiopia sponsorship team to develop, include and adhere to programme policies and procedures, with special attention to safeguarding.
• Communicate about our work with stakeholders via writing blogs, newsletter and Annual Report chapters.

Our mission includes rescue, rehabilitation, sheltering, sterilisation, and education. Our EU-standard shelters, inspired by British designs, can house up to 700 stray dogs, providing them with complete veterinary care and preparation for rehoming.
We have supported over 48,000 animals and built two dog shelters and one for disabled and senior cats. Additionally, we offer small grants to six other charities in Romania and over 40 shelters in Ukraine. We primarily rehome animals in Switzerland, Sweden, and the UK. By addressing the root causes of animal homelessness through neutering programmes and educational initiatives, we have significantly reduced overpopulation, helping over 40,000 cats and dogs in Romania and Ukraine.

Role Purpose

To support the development of high quality, trustworthy, current and effective information resources for the lupus community. This role plays an important part in our work to empower people living with lupus and supporting families and carers impacted by a diagnosis of lupus.

• Help to review, update and co-develop health information content for the lupus community in line with our schedule, maintaining a high standard of evidence-based information production, following appropriate criteria for accreditation by professional organisations. • Ensure the provision and reporting of financial accounts, forecasting and large-scale project/programme budgets

We are seeking to recruit an experienced mental health professional or therpaist to join our small team in Newcastle to support men in suicidal crisis. Our Newcastle centre opened in November and we need to recruit to expand our small of therpaists team to meet the growing needs of our service.

We will work with you and train you to develop your therapeutic skills to offer our semi-structured psychologically informed intervention. You will support the centre user and their supporter(s) to recover from the suicidal crisis and maintain their safety. 

The Charity

James’ Place exists to stop men dying by suicide. We opened our first centre in 2018 in Liverpool, the first of its kind in the UK, in 2022 we launched our second centre in London, and this year we opened our third centre in Newcastle. To date, we have supported over 2,300 men. James’ Place is a therapy centre for men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis, and it was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. It offers men a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected.   

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential Qualifications

 A Profession such as Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker registered with NMC, HPC, BASW. 

Or

Therapists registered with IAPT, BACP, UKCP, BABCP. 

Or

Psychology Graduate with experience of working as a Psychology Assistant or extensive experience of working within secondary mental health services. 

Essential Knowledge/Experience

Demonstrable experience working with adults experiencing acute psychological distress. 

Demonstrable knowledge of the impact of suicide on communities and individuals. 

Demonstrable knowledge of social and other factors which could lead to suicidal thinking and actions. 

Demonstrable knowledge of the particular difficulties contributing to male suicide. 

Evidence of being able to deliver a therapeutic session. 

Effective communication skills (written & verbal). 

Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult situations.

About the role

For the past five years, Platform’s fossil free work has focused on the coordination of the activist network UK Divest, with the aim to disrupt the financing of the fossil fuel industry through local government pension schemes. In the past two years, the remit of our work has expanded, to include new campaigns focused on exposing and disrupting fossil fuel industry sportswashing and the lobbying of Parliament. Now, with new campaigning underway on new targets in the pension sector, we are re-organising and growing our team to resource this exciting work.

Working alongside three Fossil Free Campaigners at Platform - and partners at Friends of the Earth Scotland - you will build on the strengths and learnings of past years to lead the strategic development of this important programme of work, incorporating UK Divest, Fossil Free Parliament, fossil free sports work, and new pensions work.

Our fossil free campaign is also inextricably tied to other movements for social justice. We are specifically seeking someone to develop the international solidarity potential of this work, understanding how fossil fuels are intertwined with the defence industry, colonialism, and global extraction more broadly. We want to target investment in and political support for fossil fuel companies because we believe it is intricately linked to broader global justice, such as the UK Government’s role in supporting destructive energy projects worldwide. The best divestment and anti-fossil fuel campaigning has been, and your future work will be, informed by and responsive to the BDS movement, the Global Energy Embargo for Palestine and anti-apartheid and arms trade work.

As a permanent member of Platform staff, you will also participate in the collective decision-making and running of Platform as an organisation, as well as having fundraising responsibilities alongside your project work.

Salary: Baseline salary is £42,248 pro rata (£33,791 at 4 days a week) and is subject to Platform’s Socially Just Waging System.

Ideally, you also have a working understanding of how financial institutions such as pension schemes support the fossil fuel industry.

You are deeply motivated by Platform’s visions and values, and feel enthusiastic at the prospect of operating within a flat-structured organisation. You have a strong understanding of climate justice in relation to a wider context of capitalism and white supremacy.

You are interested in creative campaigning that makes use of arts and culture, and have a strong track record of developing trusting relationships. You have experience engaging with press media in a strategic way.
