Purpose of Role
The People Advisor role will pay a pivotal role in delivering the People Plan at the Ramblers and creating a truly great place to work.
The role holder will support projects, activities and administration related across the whole employee life cycle at the Ramblers – actively engaging in the attraction, recruitment, development and retention of talent.
The role will also support the delivery of our business outcomes through a data-led approach to people decision-making.
Key responsibilities
Lead on all People processes, and administration required to maintain a high performing People team.

The Head of Fundraising is an exciting new role developed for the Society to increase fundraising and develop additional income streams to enhance the sustainability of the Society. They will be an effective fundraiser and key contact for grant giving organisations, personal donations and legacies. They will report directly to the Director sharing collective responsibility to deliver the Society’s strategy and vision.
Initially on a 2.5-year fixed term contract, with the possibility of extension subject to funding, the post will work as part of the senior management team and liaise directly with staff, Councillors (trustees), members (known as Fellows) and other organisations and individuals to ensure the successful delivery of their responsibilities.
The post will have the following immediate priorities:

Person Specification
The Head of Fundraising will have substantial fundraising and management experience, a talent for building relationships and a proven track record in securing funds from statutory sources, foundations, trusts and major donors. They will be a key contact for grant giving organisations, personal donations and legacies. They will report directly to the Director sharing collective responsibility to deliver the Society’s strategy and vision. As such they will need the following:

Further Information
This post is an initial 2.5-year (30 month) full-time contract which will be extendible subject to funding. There will be a short probationary period during which time your skills and suitability for the position will be assessed. Development of fundraising for the Transformation Plan will be the immediate priority. A lot of work has already been undertaken by the Society in preparing for an NLHF application as part of this, but the skill and experience of this post will ensure it has the maximum chance of success. This will include liaising with others, including NLHF staff and our consultants, the More Partnership.
The tasks and role will develop in line with the requirements in that application and the implementation of the Transformation Plan and will be reviewed after the submission of the initial NLHF bid. However, the core responsibilities will remain the development and delivery of successful fundraising strategies, increasing income to the Society.

Role Requirements
- Lead on the implementation of JustMoney Movement’s communications strategy, raising the profile of the organisation and our work, growing the scale, depth and diversity of engagement from across the UK churches, and ensuring the organisation remains on message both in content and visually.
- Oversee and develop our communications, including producing clear, consistent and credible copy, across media channels (including website, social media and email newsletters), to a variety of audiences, ensuring greater engagement and meaningful supporter journeys.
- Responsible for managing the delivery, administration and evaluation of JustMoney events including our annual conference, occasional online webinars and trainings, and overseeing our participation in external festivals and events such as Greenbelt.
- Project manage the production of resources and campaigns including our annual Tax Justice and Good Money Sunday packs and regular campaign actions, involving strong collaborations with external partners where possible, to create engaging content and reach new audiences.
- Have oversight of the JustMoney website, taking responsibility for its maintenance and development, ensuring that it is kept up to date with relevant, engaging content and is user-friendly to a wide range of audiences.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with the media, acting as a primary press contact and proactively drive press coverage locally and nationally around key moments and campaigns.
- Use analytics tools to measure performance across communications, social media platforms and our website, contributing to regular monitoring and assessment so as to drive learning and improvement.
- Contribute to our financial sustainability through integrating donations asks into our individual and church engagement strategies and assisting with communications to potential donors including grant-making trusts.

About the Role

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
People Management
- Be responsible and accountable for the day-to-day operations relating to the people side of retail.

- Effectively communicate any relevant information to all shop teams regarding updates, charity activities, incentives, and performance.

People Development
- Ability to mentor and support staff through regular one to ones ensuring that they feel fully equipped to achieve optimum success in their work.
- Collaboratively with the HR team review and update the volunteer induction and training programme ensuring all aspects are relevant to the retail portfolio.
- Support staff with capability and performance issues including the management of their own staff issues such as, sickness, disciplinary, grievances and concerns through probation periods.
- Work closely with the retail management team on the delivery of innovative and interactive internal and external training to help staff develop their skill sets and achieve career satisfaction.
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Work closely with HR developing and implementing strategies to improve recruitment, attracting suitable staff, and retaining them.
- Ensure suitable and sufficient coverage of volunteer support in the retail portfolio.
- Lead on the recruitment of new staff members, being able to assist shop managers in developing better teams and building strong foundations in line with the people strategy and recruitment and selection policy.
- Ensure that new staff members are fully trained and placed in a suitable training store.
- Monitor and track performance throughout staff probation periods alongside the retail sales manager.
