About The Role
The Chair the Board of Aston Mansfield provides independent and inclusive leadership to the executive team and Trustees to ensure we continue serving our community as our community evolves. This is an exciting time for our charity, having come to the end of a major strategic project, we are looking for inspiriting leadership to support our refocus on our services. We have a professional, knowledgeable, and committed board of trustees, and are continuously striving to ensure our board of trustees reflects the demographics of Newham and neighbouring communities, and the lived experience of our communities. Our next Chair will continually support the development of our board as well as guide the strategic direction of Aston-Mansfield.

Primary responsibilities
- Attend and contribute to quarterly Board meetings and work with the Trustees and Directors in advancing PFP’s vision, mission, and strategic goals.
- Deliver and develop PFP’s communications strategy. This includes: working with our executive team to produce supporter newsletters and build our supporter network; developing our social media strategy, and supporting our Administrator in its implementation; and producing press releases.
- Maintain and develop our Wordpress website.
- Proactively seek fundraising opportunities.
- Contribute to the effective governance of PFP, including: ensuring PFP is accountable and carrying out its purpose for public benefit; ensuring compliance with the governing document and applicable law; and challenging the management of resources and ensuring financial stability.

Overview of the role
We are an exciting team that aim to design and develop fantastic programme for all members of our organisation. We have several ongoing pieces of work and upcoming projects that enable volunteers to get stuck right in and have real impact. You will have a part in designing programme, see it develop and then watch it reach local Scouting.
We will provide support when inducting you into the role, engage you in an exciting project and then help you on your next steps as a volunteer at the end of the project. This is a great opportunity for those who have never volunteered at Headquarters to give it a go. We would love to see plenty of new faces!
What would I be doing?
This role will be working as part of the Programme Design Team to facilitate work on one of our short-term projects. You will be joining one of our Project Cohorts. After applying, we will review applicants’ skills and experience, before selecting a group to work on a particular project with set goals.
Our upcoming projects will be aiming to develop our top-quality programme. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in innovative and impactful programme design. Each project is anticipated to last for 3 months. Once your project is complete, we will support you in your next steps as a volunteer. - Prepare monthly management accounts and provide finance updates at quarterly Board meetings.
- Manage the payroll of two part-time UK-based employees.
- Undertake banking as and when required, mostly relating to overseas payments, with support from our Administrator.

- Co-ordinate the annual business planning process, including the budget.

We are recruiting for a new Treasurer to oversee our finances and are looking for someone with a formal qualification in a financial discipline and financial management experience at a strategic level to join our small but dynamic team. Role Description
Key tasks:

Pecan is seeking an accountant and Christian to join the Board of Trustees as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance committee. See person spec.
Pecan is a community development charity based in Peckham. We work with the local community to help people find a way through seemingly impossible barriers to a better future.
Over the past 30 years, we’ve seen thousands of clients flourish through our programs, including: ex-offenders and their families, refugees and asylum seekers, young people and the long-term unemployed. We see our service users as people who need supporting – not problems which need solving.

Board meetings are held on 10-12 occasions annually on a weeknight at 6.30pm.
Meetings of the Finance committee are held quarterly at a time agreed between trustees and management.
The Treasurer, along with the other finance committee members and senior management, guides the financial and business matters of the charity in line with good practice and in accordance with our governing documents and legal obligations. There are no executive responsibilities within Pecan and the Treasurer will not be an employee.
Main responsibilities and duties - in addition to the general responsibilities of a Trustee and undertaken with other members of the Finance sub-committee
- To scrutinise and recommend budgets, accounts, financial policies, management accounts and financial statements to the board of Trustees after discussions with the Chief Executive, other senior staff, and other members of the Finance Committee, where applicable.
- To ensure that proper accounts and records are kept, ensuring financial resources are spent and invested in line with the charity’s policies, good governance mechanisms, and legal and regulatory requirements

Trustee Time Commitment
Each Trustee is expected to be able to dedicate sufficient time to the role. We estimate that Trustees commit on average 8-10 days a year, not including travel.
Terms and Compensation
The Trustees serve a three-year term, and will be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Trustee roles are not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although Board-related travel expenses may be claimed.

We’re looking for an IT professional to join our Board and provide thought-leadership on our digital and IT strategy, including guiding us through Cyber Essentials accreditation. If you can help us use technology to improve our local advice service, we would love to hear from you.
As our digital and IT expert, you will work alongside the Chair, Chief Executive and the external IT support company we use to:

Time commitment
Our trustees are expected to attend six board meetings each year. These normally take place on a Monday evening, at our office in Esher. Reading preparation for each board meeting will take around one-two hours. All Citizens Advice trustees are required to complete a small number of e-learning courses each year.
In addition, as the IT lead, you will need to have time to participate in various IT discussions with our management team and with the IT support company we use. This work may average around 1-2 hours a week.

- Charity management or governance experience, either through a previous trustee role or as a senior leader in a relevant charity
DUTIES
- Help set Power to Connects purpose, vision, goals and activities.
- Provide creative and innovative ideas and input into forward planning.
- Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
- Provide oversight and scrutiny of financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
- Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
- Identify, monitor, and control key risks.
- Stay informed about changes in the operating environment.
- Contribute to regular reviews of the charity’s governance.
- Attend monthly board calls, prepared to contribute to discussions.
- Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect the charity’s interests, excluding personal or third-party interests.
