Financial Accountant

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Caxton Youth Organisation, a specialist youth charity, that empowers learning disabled and autistic young people aged 11-25 living in the London borough of Westminster.

We have a part-time, fully online/ remote role available to produce monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts. The role requires good working knowledge and experience of Xero accounting software, as well as experience working with a small organisation.

We require someone to work 3-4 days a month. The working hours are flexible and would suit someone who may be re-entering the job market or is retiring, but looking for some additional work.

We have a Finance and Facilities Officer who is responsible for the day-to-day input of transactions into Xero, reconciling bank statements, producing invoices and remittance advice for grants and liaising with payroll. The payroll function is outsourced to CET Payroll. The unaudited financial statements are prepared by the independent examiner. The CEO is responsible for the financial management of the organisation.

Your role

The work would include:

•  monthly preparation and posting of payroll journals
• reconciliation of the monthly accounts (including rectifying any discrepancies).
• monthly income and expenditure report and variance analysis
• monthly cashflow forecast on a cumulative basis
• processing of accruals and adjustment Production of quarterly and annual budgets and reforecasts
•  Supporting the annual independent examinatio
• Meeting with the Treasurer, CEO and Finance and Facilities Officer as and when needed.

Successful candidate profile:

• Fully AAT qualified
• Minimum of 5 years experience of bookeeping
• Minimum of 2 years experience of using Xero Software
• Advanced Microsoft Excel user
• Strong experience of managing month end and year end processes
• Fluent English speaker with strong communication skills
• Experience working with a small organisation
• Ability to work independently

About the Role

Reporting to the Deputy CEO this is an exciting role supporting one of the UK’s leading social investors.

3. To ensure that information is managed effectively, calls logged and tasks delegated, progressed and completed, feedback collected and meetings scheduled and facilitated across the wider business development team, particularly in relation to the CEO, Deputy CEO and Director of Investments, ensuring their input is sought in a timely way to progress key decisions.

4. To manage a calendar of events, calls and contacts across key areas of business development.

5. To take a lead (where appropriate) and/or work alongside others to create and/or deliver presentations in new and existing business development.

6. To manage (where appropriate) and/or work alongside others maintain long-term relationships with both current and new clients and partners.

7. To monitor tendering opportunities and manage and update the new business development pipeline.

8. To implement new systems to improve the efficiency of the business development processes, alongside business systems.

9. To work with the financial team to build costing models for new proposals and programmes.

10. To coordinate high quality bid responses for invitations to tender from funders, investors and other key client groups, to ensure that these are well-written and professionally presented.

11. To coordinate and contribute to a clear strategy and objectives for the business development function at SIB.

12. To attend relevant events or conferences and to keep up to date with the sector. 

13. To adopt our continuous improvement and learning ethos.

Veterans Outreach Support (VOS) is an award-winning charity that offers welfare, wellbeing and mental health support and services to veterans of the UK Armed Forces and Merchant Navy in Portsmouth, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. They provide a Drop-In model of support, a welfare advice service, a range of peer-supported wellbeing activities and social groups, and access to psychology, psychiatry, and therapy services.

VOS has secured additional funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust to continue the work of the Thrive Together programme (formerly VPPP) in the South East, which is designed to bring together a network of veterans’ support agencies that will take an informed approach across the South East region to ensure that there are connected pathways, which work well for veterans; that there are safe places for veterans to go, which connect into these pathways; and that volunteers and staff who support veterans have access to training and work closely with other organisations within veterans’ mental health pathways.

The Families and Carers Project Manager will work with the Thrive Together Portfolio Manager, Partners, and members of the VOS core team to explore the challenges of reaching out to families and carers of veterans, many of whom may be unaware that they are entitled to support and to make recommendations as to how this might be improved.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Independently research and interpret a variety of scientific, political, policy-driven, and other issues related to animal testing in order to further PETA’s goals

As a member of the research and evaluation team, the Evaluation and Learning Lead is responsible for the development, co-ordination, delivery and impact of NDTi’s commissioned, grant and trust funded evaluation and learning work. The post holder will manage and deliver a portfolio of evaluation and learning projects and will contribute to wider programme activities as required.

• develop, lead and deliver evaluation and learning projects and act as liaison for staff and associates involved in delivery of NDTi’s evaluation work.
• identify and share learning and insights generated by our work, showcasing the team’s innovative approaches, partnerships and achievements.
• design and develop evaluation and learning methodologies and materials, maintaining a consistent and high-quality approach to R&E work across NDTi.

Key activities

Delivering evaluation and learning projects

Day to day, the Evaluation and Learning Lead will project manage and deliver a portfolio of evaluation and learning projects ensuring that each is delivered on time, within budget and to the expected high standard.

Securing and managing contracts

• develop and invest time in nurturing diverse contacts, partnerships and relationships to ensure that NDTi’s evaluation and learning work has a significant and positive profile, influencing attitudes, and changing policy and practice in order to make society more inclusive.
• identify opportunities for, and lead on, the development of proposals and tenders to ensure delivery of NDTi’s mission.

Our ambitious and welcoming Individual Giving team has seen some fantastic results over the last 12 months – and are determined to continue building on that success this financial year.
This role is focused on supporting regular giving and lottery campaigns which are an essential part of our fundraising strategy, bringing in £15 million each year.  It is a varied, collaborative role in a growing, essential area of fundraising.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside our passionate face-to-face and telemarketing partners to continue recruiting and retaining supporters at record levels. You will help manage the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities across the various campaigns across multiple channels with a view to acquiring new supporters and retaining existing supporters to maximise Individual Giving income.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of direct marketing campaigns set by the Individual Giving Manager and/or Officer.
It's an exciting time to join the team as we are testing door-to-door fundraising – which is a new channel to us and has real potential to deliver transformational growth in our Regular Giving programme. You will support the Individual Giving Officer with monitoring the results and making recommendations by adopting a test and learn approach.

Responsibilities

• Lead and innovate UK fundraising efforts, focusing on major donors and corporates.
• Develop a creative 3-year fundraising strategy and set actionable annual and quarterly objectives.
• Cultivate and expand relationships with new major donors, moving them along a prospect pipeline.
• Support the stewardship of existing major donor relationships, ensuring continued and increased support.
• Draft compelling theories of change, cases for support, and other key materials.
• Manage our visionary ‘donor circle’ initiative.
• Build and strengthen corporate partnerships, crafting tailored cultivation plans.
• Support the writing of successful grant applications and reports, as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of fundraising experience, ideally within an NGO or a related field.

We are seeking a Project Research Officer to join our small team to work on a new project, which examines the use of data and powers by HMRC in addressing offshore tax compliance.

HOURS: Part time, 2 days per week (15hrs). A flexible working policy is offered, with core working hours of 1000hrs-1500hrs.

CONTRACT: 24 month fixed term contract, subject to successfully completing a three month probationary period.

LOCATION: Remote, with periodic in-person team meetings (quarterly).

BENEFITS: 24 days paid annual leave per year pro rated, plus eight Bank Holidays. A contribution of up to £175pcm towards a co-working desk.

WHO ARE WE: TaxWatch is the UK’s only charity dedicated to compliance and sound administration of the law in the field of taxation. We are an investigative think tank which conducts forensic research and analysis on tax compliance, tax policy, and tax law, publishing our research to improve public understanding of these issues. We are independent of any political party.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working with the Director and existing Research Analyst to conduct a research project examining the ways in which HMRC addresses offshore compliance, with a focus on its use of information and existing enforcement powers, identifying areas where compliance could be improved.

Develop and undertake the research project within specified timescales, from inception to delivery, in collaboration with the wider TaxWatch team, driving the project forward, providing updates on progress the Director and Trustees. This will involve:

· Identifying key stakeholders relevant to the project, developing and building relationships, conducting interviews, gaining insight from their knowledge and experiences and identifying areas for further investigation.

· Requesting and analysing information from HMRC.

· Analysing both qualitative and quantitative data to identify key findings and making policy and procedural recommendations based on the findings.

· Producing high quality written work, including long form written reports based on the research undertaken.

· Liaising with other organisations, journalists, politicians and government bodies to publicise the findings of the report.

· A limited amount of administrative tasks that support the running of the project including documentation of research findings and tracking Freedom of Information requests on team systems.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

ESSENTIAL:

· Critical thinking and a curious mindset, particularly seeking out and analysing data, from both qualitative and quantitative sources.

· Strong writing capability. TaxWatch is an organisation that places a high priority on concise and effective written style. Research must be clear, accurate and to the point.

· Ability to work remotely while working co-operatively with wider team. Organised and logical in approach.

· Self motivated. Able to successfully manage own time, work, and hit deadlines.

· Comfortable with statistics, and explaining complex issues to non-specialist audiences.

· Confident communicator and able to express their thoughts clearly, representing TaxWatch credibly to external stakeholders.

DESIRABLE

· A good understanding of offshore tax compliance and how HMRC currently addresses it.

· Knowledge of the current legislation pertaining to the taxation of offshore income and gains, and the enforcement powers held by HMRC.

· Recent employment or work experience in HMRC with either Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) or Risk & Intelligence Service (RIS).
