About the role: 

Reports to - Chair of Trustees 
Salary - £90,000 - £100,000 per year (pro-rata if part-time)
Contract - Permanent, 0.8FTE to 1.0FTE 
Location - London-based with some hybrid work possible. Travel within the UK as required by the role. 

Main purpose of the job:

The CEO is responsible for the growth, development and performance of the charity and for shaping and delivering an impactful and sustainable strategy in line with our mission and aims. They will be a key representative of Action Tutoring externally, including working to raise the profile of tutoring as an essential part of school education. 

Specific responsibilities relating to the role: 

Vision, Strategy and Delivery

• Working with the Board to agree the vision and mission
• Ongoing strategic development and delivery of the short term and long term strategic plans and vision
• Responsible for implementing the agreed strategy Ensuring the necessary organisation, systems and infrastructure are in place to meet the plans
• Working with the team to ensure delivery targets are met and that delivery is impactful and to a high standard

People and cultural leadership

• Overall people and cultural leadership, developing the team ensuring a positive working culture with behaviours that align closely to the charity’s values
• Ensuring operational excellence across the organisation Workforce planning so that we have the right people in the right roles to ensure successful delivery of the strategy
• Commitment to improving diversity, equity and inclusion across the organisation, drawing on best practice and leading on identifying areas for improvement

Finance and Fundraising

• Overseeing financial management of the charity
• Lead fund raising alongside Head of Philanthropy to ensure fundraising targets set by the Board are met
• Managing income and costs to secure the long term sustainability and viability of the charity

Advocacy

• Representing Action Tutoring externally to a range of stakeholders, including school leaders, policy makers, the media and funders, to raise the profile of Action Tutoring and awareness of the cause
• Contributing to government policies, helping to establish tutoring as an essential part of school education

Line Management

• Direct line management of the Senior Leadership Team and the Head of Philanthropy

Governance

• Working collaboratively with the Board to ensure the vision and mission are met and that the board is sufficiently informed to enable the Trustees to discharge their duties
• ​Ensuring robust and effective governance processes are in place and adhered to Responsible for Strategic Risk Management and reporting on this to the Board

Person specification:

• Proven track record as a CEO or Board-level senior leader, ideally in a non-profit organisation
• Experience in developing and executing strategic plans to achieve organisational vision and mission
• Strong communication and advocacy skills, with extensive experience representing organisations externally to various stakeholders (e.g. school leaders, partners policymakers, funders), and contributing to sector-wide policy discussions
• Understanding of the education sector, and the needs and drivers of stakeholders across the education space
• Commercial mindset, with proven success in fundraising to meet set targets and secure income for ongoing operations
• Experience in growing and evolving organisations to meet ambitious targets and in response to external changes, challenges and opportunities in your operating context
• Experience in an organisation with strong operational service delivery and an understanding of how to ensure quality, efficiency and impact in that context
• Ability to foster a positive working culture, aligned with Action Tutoring’s values
• Strong financial management skills, managing budgets, and ensuring long-term financial sustainability
• Knowledge of governance structures and experience in working closely with a board of trustees, including managing strategic risk
• Comfortable with data and committed to driving impact across the organisation

You will be responsible for managing delivery space, facilities compliance and controlling office equipment and supplies. Having previous administrative experience is beneficial but not essential.

To be successful in this role, you must have a good understanding of the challenges young people within our target groups face, to assist them when they arrive in our Centre. In this role no two days are the same, you get to be involved with many different functions of the Trust and interact with everyone who works in the Newcastle Centre, this is why planning and organisation skills are a must.

•  Implement systems and processes within the team, department, division and organisation to understand the events required and to forecast facilitation and coaching capacity across events

Working in a hybrid way, you’ll be attached to either our Birmingham, London or Manchester office and will report to the Faculty Planning and Events Associate Director.  In line with our current ways of working, you’ll be expected to be in the office at least 1 day a month, in addition to team days and this may be reviewed by Ambition. 
 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

To succeed in this role you'll demonstrate excellent organisation, programme and project management skills. You'll be an excellent communicator and have proven experience of building and maintaining relationships with different audiences of varying seniority. 

We are looking for someone who is a real team player and able to lead teams working in a matrix team structure. Whilst an understanding of facilitator best practice and experience of timetabling a high volume of events, all with different requirements is desirable, these are not essential criteria for applying for the role and relevant training will be provided.

Hours: 37.5 per week. Flexibility will be considered working a minimum of 33.75 hours per week / 0.9 full time equivalent. Salary and pay will be adjusted accordingly.

The Role

To deliver on our new strategy and exciting capital and activity Masterplan, Wonderseekers is growing its Fundraising Team. The Head of Major Gifts is a pivotal new role within this team: working closely with the Director of Fundraising and managing a small team of experienced Trusts & Foundations (T&F) fundraisers, to achieve an initial target of circa £3.5 million within the next two years.

Accomplished at assimilating and interpreting complex information to craft compelling, high-level funding proposals, the post holder will lead and coordinate project fundraising campaigns to achieve the individual project targets, ensuring the highest quality of funding approach and donor stewardship across the Major Gifts Team.

In addition to managing and supporting the in-house T&F Managers and freelance T&F fundraisers to secure five and six figure grants, the post holder will develop and manage their own portfolio of major T&Fs and high net worth individual (HNWI) donors contributing circa £1 million towards the overall initial target. Working with the Director of Fundraising, they will play a lead role in establishing a strong and loyal major donor base of organisations and HNWI for the Charity in anticipation of future funding needs.

The post holder will have impeccable interpersonal and presentation skills and be comfortable representing the Charity and engaging with senior internal and external stakeholders at the highest level.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior fundraiser to become an influential member of the Charity’s Leadership Team. Following achievement of the initial target, the Head of Major Gifts will play a strategic role in designing and implementing future fundraising campaigns (for “business as usual” and special projects) to support the Charity’s strategic plan and maximise its social impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Charity to achieve its strategic goals by generating the fundraising income required to deliver core activity and development works
• Be an active member of the organisation’s Leadership Team, attending strategic planning sessions to keep abreast of the Charity’s future projects pipeline, identify funding opportunities and help colleagues to understand and support the fundraising process
• Deputise for the Director of Fundraising as required
• Lead and coordinate agreed fundraising campaigns, including developing project cases for support, researching/building funding pipelines and writing cultivation and stewardship plans
• Manage a personal portfolio of T&Fs and HNWIs, conducting research, developing and implementing bespoke cultivation plans, preparing and delivering high-level funding proposals and providing exceptional stewardship
• Manage and support the Major Gift Team, coordinating the team’s fundraising activity, ensuring that approaches, applications and stewardship are in line with fundraising regulations, the Charity’s Fundraising Promise, are of a consistently high quality and provide regular progress reports to the Director of Fundraising
• Work with the Director of Fundraising, other members of the Senior Leadership Team, Trustees and the Charity’s Volunteer Leaders to develop and grow a HNWI funding pipeline, conducting contact mapping and other research, producing briefing notes, working with senior stakeholders to develop and implement cultivation plans and organising information / cultivation events
• Work with the Head of Impact & Learning to plan and deliver project impact reports for funders

Person Specification:

Experience and Knowledge

• Experienced T&F fundraiser with a good working knowledge of the sector
• Experience of managing and cultivating T&F and HNWI prospects#
• Experience of securing and managing six and seven figure grants
• Expert bid writer
• Knowledge of logic / theory of change models, social impact and how to measure it
• Experienced people manager
• Experience of business planning and managing a budget
• Experience of working with senior internal / external stakeholders
• Knowledge of charity financial governance and gift management processes
• Knowledge of Donorfy or other fundraising CRM is desirable

Fundraising Legacy Manager

The Legacy Manager will be responsible for the entire legacy function from marketing legacies to the existing database, stewarding pledgers and supporters through to the administration of the legacies themselves, working with the legacy administrator. You'll work closely with the Director of Fundraising to deliver the legacy and in-memoriam giving programme.

We’re looking for those who can deliver an exceptional supporter experience for current and prospective legacy supporters with a focus on securing strategic long-term support by building a robust, sustainable pipeline of legacy Pledges. 

As a leader you'll embed a legacy giving culture internally and will work closely with colleagues across the whole charity to promote legacy and in-memoriam giving messages. This, in turn, will inspire supporters to help Camphill Village Trust support more people with learning disabilities, autism and other mental health challenges. 

What you’ll bring to the role: 

• Evidence of working at manager level to develop and implement successful legacy / donor giving strategies, particularly legacy stewardship. 

• Ability to manage and lead the legacy function. 

• Evidence of achieving annual fundraising targets, maintaining an acceptable ROI, and managing budgets. 

• Experience in a complexed geographically spread organisation.

• A strong personal track record of achieving significant legacy support and successfully building long-term relationships with excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

• Evidence of working effectively with teams and building relationships internally and externally. 

• Excellent data analysis and insight skills. 

• Ability to manage several projects and activities simultaneously. 

• A good working knowledge of current charity law, compliance and fundraising best practice as they apply to legacy fundraising and legacy administration, particularly in the areas of ethical due diligence, data protection, privacy and marketing consent, and safeguarding.

This role will manage Battersea’s raffle product and campaigns associated with it.

We are recruiting a General Advice Officer to support with the delivery of advice and welfare support to guests who access Sufra’s Food Bank, Community Kitchen and the Community Wellbeing Project. The General Advice Officer will support our guests on a range of areas including benefits, immigration, housing, wellbeing, money management and access to training and employment services. The post-holder will provide high quality welfare advice and guidance through weekly one-to-one advice sessions, undertake case work, work with partners to facilitate referrals, and provide support to advice volunteers.

Women and Girls Network (WGN) was established in 1987 and has spent over 30 years supporting women and girls across London affected by gendered violence. This includes childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape, prostitution (including trafficking and sexual exploitation), female genital mutilation (FGM), and so-called ‘honour’ based crimes such as forced marriage.

About the role

Reporting into the Financial Controller, the Finance Business Partner works closely with stakeholders across the organisation, including Executive Leadership, with a specific focus on working closely with the project leads for all our funded services. and donations so – put simply – without their support, we wouldn’t be here.

Although our supporters may come from different backgrounds or have varied priorities, they all
share a common goal: tackling the issues across our society that are eroding democracy and
driving inequality. They support our work to hold those in power accountable, uncover new
evidence to support positive change, and empower citizens.

The Bureau has experienced significant growth over the past three years, increasing our annual
income to £2.8m and expanding to a team of more than 40 people. While the majority of our
income comes from grants, there is strong potential for further fundraising growth, and we are
actively working to diversify our funding streams beyond trusts and foundations.

Role and Responsibilities:
Support from trusts and foundations is our main source of philanthropic income so we are looking
for somebody with experience in grants fundraising who can quickly apply their skills and
expertise. You’ll work closely with our Development Director to report to and liaise with current
funders, manage a pipeline of prospects and submit successful applications to secure new grants.
In addition, you will support in building a major donor programme to diversify and strengthen our
funding base. You will collaborate with colleagues at all levels across the organisation, from impact
producers to reporters to finance and operations, in a supportive and welcoming culture that
values teamwork and shared success.

As an excellent communicator, you will be able to take complex issues and translate them into
clear, compelling narratives that resonate with funders and stakeholders. You will also be
passionate about building strong relationships with our funders and supporters.

While experience in high-net-worth fundraising would be a valuable bonus, it is not essential. You
don’t need to have raised funds for non-profit media before, but you do need to be excited by our
work and able to express The Bureau’s key areas of work and impact in an accessible, accurate and
compelling way. We’re a small team, so you’ll need the willingness to pitch in on fundraising tasks
– big or small – to ensure The Bureau is in the best possible position to pursue its mission.

Skills and Experience:

• Excellent fundraiser with a demonstrable track record of 3+ years’ experience successfully raising significant funds for charities or non-profits and managing relationships with funders (foundations - essential, high net worth individuals - desirable);
• Strong background in managing grants admin, including due diligence and processing agreements;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to speak and write English fluently;
• Great analytical skills, with experience in researching and identifying new funding sources for various projects;
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities;
