Role Summary

As the grants officer, you will work closely with the fundraising team and the academic team, to write proposals and apply for funding. As a Front Desk Volunteer, you will be the welcoming face of Historic Croydon Airport, responsible for ensuring visitors have a smooth and enjoyable experience. You will manage visitor check-ins, handle donations, and support merchandising activities. 

Responsibilities: 

Reception Duties: 

1. Visitor Reception: 

• Greet visitors warmly at the front door or Reception desk. 

• Check if visitors have pre-booked and verify booking details. 

• Keep the Reception Desk attended at all times. 

1. Booking Management: 

• Obtain booking sheets from Graeme and update them throughout the day. 

• Set out and supervise the donation box. 

• Maintain a supply of hand sanitisers, leaflets, and other materials. 

• Re-stock leaflet holders in the Main Entrance lobby. 

1. Visitor Handling Procedures: People with a Booking: 

• Check the Lead Name off the booking list and confirm the number of visitors in the group. 

• Request a donation of £8 per adult on entry, payable by cash, credit card, cheque (to Historic Croydon Airport Trust), or QR code. 

• Ensure the donation process is completed. 

• Inform visitors of the location of toilets and answer any questions. 

• Ask visitors to wait in the Waiting Area until their Guide collects them. 

• Manage additional visitors, ensuring tour groups do not exceed 12 people, including the Tour Guide. 

People without a Booking: 

• Politely inform visitors that entry is by pre-booking online. 

• Check the booking list for vacant slots and inform visitors of available times and spaces. 

• Advise visitors to book and return at the specified time, noting they cannot wait inside AH. 

• Allow visitors to wait outside for potential "no-shows" if they wish. 

• Be polite, sympathetic, but firm if turning people away, and provide the date of the next Open Day and booking details.

Merchandising Duties: 

1. Merchandise Stall Management: 

• Set up and take down the HCAT Merchandise stall. 

• Retrieve and replace sale items from/to the cupboards under the model in Reception. 

• Run the merchandise stall, selling items to visitors. 

1. Cash Handling: 

• Manage the float, monetary takings, cashing up, and recording total takings at the end of the day. 

• Ensure cash takings are not left unattended and hand them over to a Trustee at the end of the day. 

1. Stock Monitoring: 

• Monitor stock levels and advise Jeff if stocks are running low.

At Makani, we work with refugee women through the arts to overcome trauma, fight for their rights, and to transform their lives and the world around them. Our vision is a world of freedom, dignity and equality for all displaced women and girls.

We work in Lebanon with Syrian and Palestinian refugee women, and in the UK with refugee women from all over the world. In both countries we run therapeutic arts projects including theatre and craft therapy, filmmaking and feminist embroidery. In addition, in Lebanon we also help women through economic empowerment and income generation, access to training and education, and we are responding to the humanitarian crisis with emergency support for displaced families.

Makani was founded in 2022, building upon years of work supporting Syrian and Palestinian refugee women in Lebanon by our co-founders, one of whom is a displaced woman herself. We were officially registered as a charity in June 2024.

We are a small but ambitious organisation that is already transforming the lives of over 100 refugee women and their families in Lebanon, and dozens in the UK. POSITION: Treasurer 

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. The Treasurer will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial management, health and sustainability of the organisation, contributing to the strategic direction and decision-making process.

 VOLUNTEER ROLE BRANCH  SECRETARY

 RSPCA Darlington & District Branch  are looking for a Volunteer to become the Branch  Secretary to run the Branch alongside our committee of Trustees.

Overview of the Branch Secretary opportunity

If you have all of the above  then you could become  our principal communications trustee in the role of Branch Secretary, and help us to maintain our branch affairs and support us in improving animal welfare in our area and the work of our local Inspectors as they focus on animals who suffer from abuse, cruelty and neglect. Through your excellent administration and communication skills, you would need to be able to have oversight of our finances, fundraising events and face book page. You would also need to coordinate our work in providing education to small groups in the community when requested,  oversee the distribution of food to local animal food banks, support the  employment of our staff in the cat hub .

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Secretary

• You will also  act as the primary contact point for all branch communications with the National Society, the branch committee and the branch membership
• You will arrange branch meetings ensure accurate minutes are taken and distributed in accordance with branch rules
• You will ensure all branch committee decisions are implemented and actions completed
• You will  work with the membership secretary  to arrange the branch AGM including the compilation and distribution of the annual report, nominations and agenda in line with strict timetable laid down in the branch rules.
• You will ensure  the timely dissemination of the contents of all correspondence and literature received by the branch, ensuring availability to all committee members and reply to all branch correspondence when necessary.
• Be responsible for the ordering and distribution of  RSPCA stationery, leaflets, posters and other fundraising and promotional material when required.
• You will liaise  with the Branch Partnership Manager (BPM) and group Chief Inspector and notify them of all Branch meetings.
• Be aware of the outcome of Regional Board meetings and support regional activities.
• Actively promote and advertise the Society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch Trustees and Volunteers and welcome new members as and when needed.
•  In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch.
• Manage Branch, Trustees and Volunteer activities.
• You will advise the BPM of all changes to Branch facilities, services and contact details
• In the absence of a Membership Secretary resume responsibility of the Branch Membership list
• Submit recommendations for National Society Awards to the BPM, in accordance with the wishes of the committee
• You will need to complete an RSPCA application form and we will require 2 references

 As a minimum, all trustees would normally be expected to attend  four - six weekly committee meetings which last about 2 hours, however the commitment may vary depending upon need.

As a Branch Secretary you would also be required to become a Branch Trustee and a Member of the RSPCA National Society.

• Trustees must sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act to clarify that they are not disqualified from being a trustee and read the Charity Commission’s guidelines for individuals on who cannot be a trustee or senior manager of a charity.

The RSPCA Darlington & District Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Our vision is a future where Latin Americans and other Spanish and Portuguese speakers living in the UK have equal rights, live free from poverty and discrimination, and feel empowered to pursue their aspirations.

Our mission is to enable the development, agency, and participation of all Latin Americans and other Spanish and Portuguese speakers, by responding to both immediate needs and structural inequalities. 

We do this by offering high-quality information and advice services, opportunities for development and training, and a platform to seek social and systemic change. Our work is organized across three main operational areas—Advice and Casework, education, Training and Employment, and children and Young People—and a crosscutting area: Advocacy, Research, and Campaigning.

With 40 years of experience, we support over 4,000 people every year. 

Being a Trustee

IRMO’s Board of Trustees is made up of six to nine Trustees, who work together to ensure the charity is run properly. As a trustee, you will have the opportunity to support IRMO’s strategic development and oversee its finances. Trustees meet every two months (usually online in the evening) and are asked to commit an additional eight to ten hours between meetings to follow up on actions and provide advice and input on strategic documents and areas of work relevant to their areas of expertise.

General Responsibilities

• Stay up to date with and assess the political, economic and social contexts that affect IRMO’s work
• Support the development of and approve IRMO’s key strategic documents
• Annually review and approve IRMO’s budget
• Review, update and approve major policies
• Approve salaries, benefits, terms and conditions for staff
• Ensure that IRMO’s financial structure is adequate for its current needs and long-term strategy
• Ensure that the organisation has the necessary resources in place to meet its long-term goals
• Ensure that the Board of Trustees is adequately informed of the condition of the organisation and its operations
• Ensure that published reports adequately reflect the nature of the services and the financial condition of the organisation
• Approve major actions of the organisation, such as capital expenditure over authorised limits and major changes in activities and services 
• Review staff results in relation to IRMO’s aims and objectives, as well as annual and long-term goals
• Appoint, supervise, support, and appraise IRMO’s Director
• Provide candid and constructive criticism, advice, comments and praise
• Ensure that the Director has established appropriate policies to define and identify conflicts of interest throughout the organisation and are administering and enforcing those policies
• Appoint independent examiners/auditors subject to approval by members
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation affecting the organisation
• Annually review the performance of the Board of Trustees and take steps to improve its performance

​The Chair of the Board of Trustees provides leadership and direction to the Beaver Trust’s board, ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance and strategic oversight of the organisation. The Chair works closely with the CEO and trustees to ensure that Beaver Trust’s mission and strategic objectives are achieved.

The Chair guides the board in making strategic decisions, and fosters a culture of transparency, accountability, and innovation. The Chair also plays an important role in fundraising, networking, and advocacy for Beaver Trust’s work.

Time Commitment

The Chair is expected to remotely chair quarterly board meetings and attend additional committee meetings as required. In person meetings may be held once or twice a year. Additional time will be needed for document review, strategy development, monthly meetings with CEO and ad-hoc meetings, estimated at up to two days per month.

Remuneration

Unremunerated. This role is voluntary and is not accompanied by financial remuneration; however reasonable expenses will be covered (for example, travel, accommodation, subsistence and supporting child-care expenses to attend meetings).

Key Responsibilities

Governance and Leadership

• Provide leadership, alongside the CEO, in setting the organisation’s vision, strategy and values.
• Provide leadership to the board, to ensure that trustees act cohesively and effectively in the charity’s best interests, to manage its resources responsibly and act with care and skill.
• Ensure effective governance and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Lead the board in supporting the CEO and Senior Management Team, fostering an effective partnership between the trustees and management.
• Support subcommittees where needed in their roles and responsibilities.
• Chair board meetings, ensuring they are well-run, productive, inclusive and focused on key governance and strategic matters.
• Ensure the board operates effectively, addressing skills gaps and recruiting new trustees as required.
• Develop and maintain a strong, productive working relationship with the CEO.
• Undertake an annual review of the CEO’s performance on behalf of the board.

Strategic Planning

• Work with the CEO and trustees to develop and monitor the implementation of Beaver Trust’s strategic plans, ensuring they are aligned with the organisation’s vision, mission and core values.
• Provide guidance on the development of policies, partnerships, and funding strategies that support long-term financial sustainability.
• Lead the board in reviewing key projects, offering strategic insights into new opportunities and risks.

Fundraising and External Relations

• Act as an ambassador for Beaver Trust, leading by example in alignment with our core values.
• Support fundraising efforts, working with the board and executive team to identify new revenue streams, partners, and donors.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with applicable external stakeholders as required. This may vary according to the chair’s own experience and networks.
• ​Board Development & Performance​
• Work with all committees to ensure that they are representative of the charity and able to work effectively and productively within their remit.
• Conduct /cooperate with annual evaluations of the Chair, other trustees and CEO/board performance, addressing any issues and driving continuous improvement.
• Ensure succession planning is in place for key roles, including the Chair and CEO.

​Skills and experience

Essential:

• Demonstrated leadership experience.
• A proven understanding of governance and legal responsibilities of charity trustees, with a strong commitment to high standards of accountability and transparency.
• Experience in chairing boards or committees, with strong facilitation skills and the ability to manage diverse opinions and complex discussions, to reach clear and agreed decisions within agreed timeframes.
• Proven track record of strategic planning and implementation, with the ability to provide insight and oversight in complex situations.
• Strong emotional intelligence, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with trustees, staff, stakeholders, and partners.
• Passionate about environmental conservation and committed to Beaver Trust’s mission of restoring beavers to regenerate our landscapes.
• A desire to develop beaver-related knowledge.
• Ability to align with Beaver Trust values and ensure they shape our work.

Desired:

• Experience in fundraising, advocacy, or public relations, with established networks in the environmental sector.
• Understanding of the complexities of practical, political and social aspects of species restoration.
• Understanding of UK environmental law, restoration policy, and sustainable land management practices.

Brentford FC Community Sports Trust (BFCCST), an award-winning independent charity in partnership with Premier League Brentford Football Club, is seeking 2-3 new Trustees to join our dynamic Board.

Role:Brentford FC Community Sports Trust Trustee (x3) 

Term: 3 years (Renewable for up to 9 years)

Time Commitment: 1-2 days per month on average.

Trustees will be expected to attend at least 4 in-person Board meetings per year. Plus at least 4 sub group meetings and 2/3 Strategy Days per annum, as well as visiting programmes in action that the Board delivers and attending bi monthly events. Depending on the skill set offered by individuals, Trustees will also have regular additional meetings with Officers in specialist areas to help shape strategy.

Remuneration: This is an unpaid role but reasonable expenses incurred are refundable in accordance with BFCCST’s Trustee Expenses policy.

Brentford FC Community Sports Trust

Brentford FC Community Sports Trust was set up as an independent charity in 2005.

The Trust’s aim is to use the power of sport to engage, inspire and empower people in west London, by providing opportunities to take part in programmes and activities, thereby improving physical and mental wellbeing, increasing engagement in education and training and enabling people of all ages to realise their potential. The BFCCST Board of Trustees

Looking ahead to the next three years, three of the current nine Trustees, including the Chair, will be retiring after many years of dedicated service.
