At The Hygiene Bank, our volunteers are the heart and soul of everything we do and achieve as a charity. Without the incredible individuals up and down the country who generously give their time to run our local hygiene bank projects, collecting and distributing essential products through our network of community partners, our charity simply wouldn’t exist.
The Hygiene Bank aspires to build the best recruited, best trained and best supported community of volunteers in the charity sector. The extraordinary commitment, dedication, enthusiasm and sheer hard work of our nearly 600 volunteers underpins our current operations and our future plans. In particular, our volunteers and projects are central to our aspirations to engage Parliamentarians and other key stakeholders, and to raise awareness of hygiene poverty, in support of our goal to end it for good.
Thanks to a generous grant, we are now able to recruit a Volunteer Officer, who will play a pivotal role supporting and empowering this brilliant community. As such, you will play a key part in shaping the future of a national anti-poverty charity working on a key social justice challenge.

About The Hygiene Bank
Hygiene poverty is not being able to afford many of the everyday hygiene and personal grooming products most of us take for granted. The reality of low income is that it restricts people’s options, leaving us caught between being able to heat our homes, pay the rent, eat, or be clean. It is washing hair, bodies, faces and clothes in the same cheap washing-up liquid used for the dishes. It is not being able to replace a toothbrush when needed or sharing a toothbrush because one each just isn't an option. It is having to choose between shaving foam and razors or the transport fare to a job interview.
Hygiene Poverty is the hidden crisis facing the UK. In 2024, The Hygiene Bank published a research report into the incidence and impact of hygiene poverty. It found that over 4.2m adults in the UK are affected by hygiene poverty, that is an additional 1.1m people into hygiene poverty since 2022 - the equivalent of the population of Birmingham.
Hygiene poverty is not only on the rise, it’ is also undermining the nation’s health: 50% of those affected by hygiene poverty say that it is causing them anxiety or depression. 92% of people affected report that it limits their social interactions with friends and family. 54% of those affected have not gone to the dentist in the last 12 months. But most importantly, it’s putting people in impossible situations. A staggering 69% of adults experiencing hygiene poverty are having to make the difficult decision between paying for essential needs like food and bills or purchasing basic toiletries. 65% of parents affected by hygiene poverty have had to choose between buying hygiene products for themselves or their children.

About the role
This role will be part of the Operations Team and will work closely with the Partnership Managers who support our projects on a day-to-day basis;, you will be provide exceptional service across key parts of the volunteering journey including recruitment, training and engagement.

Responsibilities

Recruitment: Design and implement compelling volunteer recruitment campaigns at a national level and for specific areas of the UK

Virtual Volunteering: Develop our offer for volunteers to bring their skills, experience and time to the charity outside our local community and project structures, for example coordinating volunteers who can support local projects with social media, or with fundraising.

Onboarding: Design and run volunteer the volunteer onboarding process, ensuring that all of our volunteers have the tools they need to be successful

Governance: Administrate and coordinate the Volunteer Council, a new Committee designed to centre volunteer voice in the charity’s governance

Consultation: Further develop the charity’s volunteer survey and create ongoing opportunities for feedback and consultation from our volunteer community

Training: Identify areas for training, source and develop these, providing exciting and effective opportunities for our volunteers to develop their skills, practice and impact

Resources: Working with the Partnership Managers and other colleagues in the central team, design and develop video and written resources to support the projects in their day-to-day work. The postholder will also hold responsibility for the Volunteer Members’ Area, ensuring content is up to date, relevant and useful.

Communications: Collate compelling, informative and engaging content and write the monthly volunteers’ newsletter, ensuring volunteers’ achievements are celebrated, that they understand and are involved in the charity’s development. You will also be responsible for developing new and effective communication channels.

Data: through collecting and sharing data on our volunteers and their experience with the charity, you will report on progress and suggest ways to continously improve our offer. You will also ensure that data is captured appropriately on our systems.

Position
We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join our team of Regional Engagement Managers. These roles are the key drivers of IChemE activity across all UK regions, helping the organisation to achieve its strategic goals of sustainable member growth, and supporting a vibrant and thriving profession.
You will be based in the East / North East of England and will be an important member of our dynamic UK field force. On a daily basis you will engage with regional HEIs, employers, and other priority partners to identify, nurture and grow sustainable relationships and engagement opportunities that positively impact IChemE’s member recruitment, engagement, and retention.

About the role
We’re looking for an experienced project manager interested in the deliberative democracy field to deliver selection and stratification services to customers, to enable the recruitment and selection of participants for deliberative democratic processes to take place at all levels of government & society. Supported nearly 200 citizens’ assemblies and other sortition events in the UK, Australia, Hungary, and elsewhere, sending hundreds of thousands of assembly invitations to households, and recruiting thousands of people for deliberative processes. Some examples include Scotland’s Climate Assembly, the Budapest Climate Assembly, a citizens’ jury on assisted dying in Jersey, the UK government’s Public Advisory Group on COVID-19, and many community panels in Australia for councils in Victoria.

Developed a network of democracy organisations campaigning for the institutionalisation of citizens’ assemblies; we have an ongoing campaign to replace the House of Lords with a House of Citizens, have developed and tested messaging and framing guides for communicating our campaign goals, and have laid the groundwork for this transformative democratic change.

Summary of role:
· The Fundraising Manager is responsible for raising income for Variety in the Midlands area with a focus on unrestricted income. This entails supporting, managing, and developing a wide range of existing and new contacts, events and charitable activities.

Against Malaria Foundation (AMF) was founded in 2004 and is a charity that fights malaria in a highly effective, accountable and transparent way.
We do this by purchasing and distributing multiple millions of long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs) at a time in nationwide universal coverage campaigns. This is the most cost effective way of preventing malaria. AMF receives donations from the public and in the current financial year to date have received over US$125m. AMF is particularly data-focused and monitors and reports on net use and drives and supports innovation to improve the effectiveness of malaria programmes.
AMF is the world’s third largest funder of nets.
AMF has been rated a top charity for all of the last 16 years by independent charity evaluators GiveWell and The Life You Can Save who focus on cost-effectiveness and impact.
We are a team of thirteen highly motivated individuals with different skills and experience. Each person has an important role to play. All team members work remotely with constant communication between them. While the team is small, the impact is big - our net distributions protect millions of people. Our largest programme is in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where we are funding 55 million nets to protect 100 million people for distribution during 2024 to 2026. We have ongoing multi-million net programmes in other countries including Chad, Guinea, Nigeria, Togo, Uganda and Zambia.
Role Description
Our activities and commitments are steadily increasing, and 2025 and 2026 will be particularly busy years of distributions, with over ~100m nets planned for distribution. In light of this, AMF is recruiting a Senior Operations Manager to join the operations team and play an important role in ensuring the success of the net distributions. We are looking for someone who has strong interpersonal and intellectual skills who is able to work collaboratively. The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking on significant responsibility by leading on several of AMF’s programmes.
The role will include involvement in all stages of a distribution campaign (pre-agreement, net procurement, post-agreement, during distribution, and post distribution) across two main areas:
- Work with National Malaria Control Programmes (NMCPs)
- Work with AMF’s independent monitoring partners
Further information
The Senior Operations Manager will lead on several of AMF’s programmes. They will work closely with NMCPs, in country partners, AMF independent monitors, the AMF Operations and Technology teams to ensure the success of AMF distributions.
More specifically, they will manage the distributions through the following stages:
1 - Pre agreement
- Establishing the funding gap
- Establishing the net need, malaria burden, insecticide resistance data
- Working with the Ministry of Health to negotiate and put in place an agreement for the programme
2 - Net procurement
- Working with AMF’s procurement lead to order nets in time for the distribution
3 - Post-agreement
- After signature of the agreement, working with countries to put in place the plans for key elements, in particular: electronic data collection, 5% re-visits, net tracking
- Tender for and select an independent partner for distribution monitoring, and work closely with this partner that will be AMF’s eyes and ears in country
4 - During the distribution
- Track information coming from monitoring partners
- Analyse with the Head of Analytics registration and distribution data and take actions if needed
- Account for all AMF nets
5 - Post distribution
- Tender for and select an independent partner for post distribution monitoring, and work closely with this partner to carry out surveys at 9, 18 and 27 months post-distribution
- Share results with in-country partners and encourage appropriate actions to be taken
Through these stages, it will be important to maintain strong relationships with the key partners, notably the National Malaria Control Programmes, distribution partners and cofounding partners to ensure that distributions are carried out according to the agreements signed between the Ministry of Health and AMF.
These relationships will ensure that solutions can be found constructively to issues that arise during implementation of AMF’s programmes. Aside from the areas above, there will be other work related to AMF Group Operations, dependent on the candidate’s skill set.
