General Duties:

3. Lead and facilitate community group work programmes including 6 #CapeAbility in Schools programme which aims to build resilience and self-esteem for children in key stage 2.

4. Lead and facilitate groupwork programmes for parents such Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities and Child Overcoming Domestic Abuse.

5. Safeguard the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults you work with directly and take appropriate action if escalation is needed.

6. To provide practical and emotional support to families or advocacy and signposting to specialist and universal services where appropriate.

7. Ensuring that the voices and views of children and young people are sought, heard and represented appropriately.

8. Attend designated meetings with multi-agency professionals and act as lead professional where appropriate to support the Team Around the Child/Family or Early Help Assessment (EHA).

About the Role

This new role within the Operations Directorate will manage our existing portfolio of national skills competitions, work with the wider team and network to develop our offering to ensure we are aligned with the UK economic priorities. You will have experience of the technical and vocational education and training or apprenticeship systems, be proactive and able to engage with a range of stakeholders.

Role purpose

The purpose of this role is to manage relationships with key stakeholders to ensure the national competition programme is delivered to a high standard, ensuring a collaborative approach to its development and delivery, in partnership with education and industry

Key tasks and responsibilities:

1. Management of a portfolio of national skills competitions across a range of industry sectors:

Develop knowledge and understanding of each competition and their operational needs and requirements, through meetings (one-to-one and group), with competition organising partners (COPs), educators and industry.

• Provide technical and operational advice, guidance, and support on competition delivery to internal teams, partners, and external stakeholders in education and industry.

• Undertake mid-year and annual reviews of competition organising partners (COPs) and continually seek to develop efficient quality procedures.

• Support competition organising partners (COPs) to understand programme requirements and produce key documentation to a consistent high quality and standard, submitted to agreed timeframes

2. Management of all contracts and processes associated with WorldSkills UK’s network of competition organising partners (COP’s):

Implement the competitions organising partner (COP) quality assurance and continuous improvement model and monitoring framework, to ensure the programme runs effectively through contract compliance and that key milestones are met and risks are mitigated.

• Quality assure and sign off key competition deliverables and milestones, reporting and tracking progress on centralised monitoring systems.

• Carry out monthly catch up and bi-annual reviews of competition organising partners (COPs) and support them to continually improve programme delivery resulting in a high-quality, innovative competitions and a positive competitor experience. Page 7 of 10

• Provide development support to delivery partners to raise the standard and quality of competitions delivered within their footprint, in collaboration with the Quality and Standards team. This also includes organising sector-based cluster meetings for competition organising partners to foster greater collaboration and collect, synthesise and exchange information and best practice pertinent to their particular industry or sector.

• Ensure monitoring and reporting systems are accurate and kept up to date.

• Work with the Corporate Partnerships team to manage competitions funded through an investment model.

3. Support the development of new skills competitions:

• Review, assess and implement initiatives that create future-proof skills competitions that are sustainable, responsive to employer needs and provide greater alignment to UK economic priorities.

4. Project management:

• Take ownership of allocated projects within the Operations directorate ensuring all deviations from targets (time, money, people etc.) are identified and addressed at the earliest possible stage.

• Effectively coordinate resources (including agencies, suppliers, contractors) so that all project elements are delivered to acceptable standards on time, to budget, and meet the required specification(s)/objective(s).

5. General

The main duties of the role

• To work with the Impact and Operations teams to improve programme evaluation, including designing qualitative and quantitative impact and process evaluations.
• To lead the delivery of evaluations, including data collection, analysis and reporting.

• Provide resources, support and mentoring to student officers and student campaigners, utilising digital and offline organising models of engagement, to support them to develop hard-hitting and effective campaigns.
• Coordinate and work with KCLSU teams to support representatives and members in delivering their campaigns and communicate the impact of campaigning at KCLSU, building interest and recruiting new activists as a result.
• Deliver a range of approaches to student voice engagement, developing diverse methods of participation and innovative practices for facilitating student decision-making, co-creation, and capturing insight.
• Work with external organisations to lead on KCLSU involvement in local, national and NUS campaigns.

Developing Student Representative Communities

• Support Networks, Academic Associations and Campaign groups on-going growth and development, supporting them to build inclusive, active, and intersectional student-led communities.
• Engage with representatives through coaching, building relationships and providing support as they develop and deliver their campaigning and organising agenda.
• Ensure participation in representation is accessible and inclusive, identifying and removing barriers to engagement particularly for low participation groups.

Leadership Development

• Create and deliver training, guidance and ongoing support for Student Officers, Student Representatives and Academic Associations, equipping students with the knowledge and skills that enable them to thrive in their role and feel empowered to grow as community leaders.
• Build strong and nurturing relationships with student representatives and Academic Association leaders, coordinating effective engagement and regular contact with our members.
• Empower students – particularly those from low participation groups - to become student leaders and participate in KCLSU Elections.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This strategic role will report to the Director of Operations and will be responsible for overseeing and enhancing operational functions across our businesses, focusing on fostering a positive working environment and employee experience, while supporting our social impact and business growth. You will share SCN’s ambitions to transform funding for grassroots organisations and coalitions by reimagining fundraising, removing structural barriers and encouraging institutional funders to support community interests.

The ideal candidate will have experience of operations, HR & risk management and will have a passion to make a difference. You will work with the Director of Ops on streamlining operational systems and processes, compliance and risk management, policy oversight, resource planning, and HR and payroll oversight.  Crucially, you will help us develop our new Employer of Record Service; the Social Change Hive. Working closely with the CEO and the Head of Business Development, you will ensure all our HR processes, systems and reporting structures are operational for our clients and our employees.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

You will be a detailed oriented person, proactive, well organised and excellent at managing various tasks and projects at the same time, with excellent project management and people skills. We are a trauma informed organisation, and while you may not be trauma trained –  you will need to understand the need for a human touch within the systems and processes we hold (we will also provide training on our approach).  As part of the role, you must understand HR regulation, contract management and general operational functions. We are looking for someone who is happy working on their own initiative with energy, enthusiasm and good humour, with a can-do attitude. You must be comfortable with working with external groups of people from varied backgrounds alongside our incredible team. Our work is involved and changes quickly. So the role would suit someone who is resilient and comfortable re-prioritising when things shift quickly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Senior Operations manager, you will be responsible for supporting the Director of Ops in ensuring we have efficient systems and processes across the organisation and providing support on contracting needs for the businesses. Occasionally we are asked to help support the operational development of our clients. The role will involve:

• Operations oversight (40%)
  • To take a systematic view of all operations across the business and make sure we have the correct operational tools, systems and processes in place to support our internal needs as well as delivery of work to our clients. Lead on designing and embedding effective tools and systems to support this and ensure there are up to date process maps to support the team in using them. 
  • Regular reporting on these systems to the senior management team to support business management and strategic decisions 
  • Working closely with heads of each function to ensure we have the right processes in place that support the team in delivering their work 
  • Ensuring we have the right policies in place for effective management of the business 
  • Responsible for overseeing all contracting for clients and employees
  • Oversight and drafting of all client contracts – working with the Director of Ops to ensure contract templates are up to date and in line with any business shifts and fit for purpose.
  • Managing any contracting risks and making sure all contracts are active and not expired. Setting up and maintaining reporting systems to ensure this information is fed back to the relevant teams and senior management.

  • Support the HR element within the development and delivery of Hive, our Employer of Record payroll service. 
  • Lead on recruitment and induction processes for the business and clients. This includes ensuring the processes are fit for purpose and efficient for the business, having the right resources in place to support the team and clients with understanding and managing recruitment and induction, managing onboarding of all new starters.
  • Oversight of all contracting and HR obligations for our employees, including clients using the Hive service – onboarding, exit processes and everything in between 
  • Oversight of all processes in Hive to ensure smooth. operations. With Hive being new, and growing, processes and policies will need to be reviewed and adapted to Hive’s needs.
  • Setup and maintain reporting systems that allow risk management and managing end of contract responsibilities.
  • Manage all HR queries and issues for the team and clients. 
  • Oversight of monthly payroll and salary sacrifice schemes.
