The Role:
As a Community and Events Fundraiser, you will:

Duchenne UK is an ambitious, dynamic and impactful charity. Following their sons’ diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emily Reuben and Alex Johnson founded Duchenne UK in 2012.
DMD is a devastating progressive condition diagnosed in early childhood which causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. There are currently only very limited treatment options for DMD, so Emily and Alex set up Duchenne UK to change this.
Since 2012, we have raised more than £27 million to end the devastating impact of DMD. We fund ground-breaking scientific research to find effective treatments. We’ve developed the infrastructure of DMD clinical trial delivery in the UK. We engage industry and regulators to accelerate access to treatments. About the role
At a strategic level this role is responsible for leading on all aspects of income, including fundraising, commercial engagement, and new business opportunities, leading the development and delivery of a bold and effective income strategy to support our organisational ambitions and future sustainability.
The Director of Income Generation will inspire and develop the charity’s income team, taking overall responsibility for setting and achieving income targets for the organisation. They will ensure a collaborative and integrated approach to income generation across the organisation.
The Director of Income Generation will report to the CEO and be part of the Senior Leadership team, working closely alongside the Managing Director, Finance Director and Director of Research and Development. They will line manage a team to support the delivery of the income strategy.
Job Description
Income Generation
- Aligned to the organisational strategy, designing and delivering Duchenne UK’s income generation strategy, establishing a delivery plan to hit targets across a diverse range of income streams, including community fundraising, events, trusts and foundations, major donors, research and development grants and commercial income.
- Oversee the process and systems of managing funders and new business opportunities, including overseeing the charity’s CRM system (Salesforce) to support a high end and holistic approach to the account management of funders and stakeholders.
- Set, monitor and deliver annual income and expenditure targets.
- Attend meetings with funders and prospects, and networking events to uncover new opportunities, including management of Duchenne UK’s Development Board.
- Developing and growing the income pipeline, working closely with the Research and Development team to identify funding for existing and pipeline projects.
- Support the team to develop professional and engaging materials including fundraising proposition, applications, proposals, appeals, pitches and reports.
- Proactively seek-out and identify new trends and developments and make recommendations to Duchenne UK.
- Oversee reporting to ensure the preparation and timely submission of reports on progress on objectives, budgets and targets.

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Is leading the charity through its next phases of development as it prepares itself for year on year increases in demand with a focus on delivering the charity’s future resilience plan (Project 12/25). Overview of the role:
Working in a small team, you will play an active role in the delivery of their External Affairs programme of work, primarily delivering secretariat duties for the APPG (All Party Parliamentary Group) on Deep Geothermal, as well as contributing to wider external affairs outputs.

About WaterAid:
The climate crisis is a water crisis. Around the world, people are feeling the effects of climate change through water, including flooding, droughts, sea level rise, and irregular rainfall. Climate change is affecting seasonal and long-term water availability, meaning we can no longer rely on rain, river flows and aquifers.
The Resilient Water Accelerator is an initiative designed to increase the flow of private and public finance into water projects that help the most climate-vulnerable communities build resilience to climate change. Despite the high need, only 3% of total climate finance flows go towards water. Our mission is to demonstrate the business case for increased and enhanced public and private investment in water-related deals in emerging economies that strengthen resilience for climate-vulnerable communities and are replicable so that millions more can benefit. We are working to increase the speed, scale, and replicability of water investment by creating a pipeline of bankable projects, bringing together the right mix of financing with the right commercial structures and partners, and supporting improvements in the enabling environment.
About the Team:
We are a friendly, supportive, globally distributed team, bringing on-the-ground expertise and comprehensive perspectives, combining climate policy, water economics, private finance, measurement and evaluation, and governance. We are currently housed within WaterAid – the world’s largest NGO focused on providing water, sanitation, and hygiene outcomes for people in developing countries, and are one of WaterAid’s flagship programmes. We have a close partnership with Global Development Incubator, which is providing incubation support for the RWA.
The RWA currently has 11 staff, based in 6 countries, and we have plans to build the team to around 18-20 over the next couple of years, to extend our delivery from 2 countries (currently Nigeria and Bangladesh) to 6, and to secure additional financing to complement the investment we have secured from the UK Government.
About the Role:
The Manager – Climate & Water will play an important role in this small, international team by managing the integration of ideas, policy frameworks, and findings from research and practice into the Resilient Water Accelerator (RWA)’s programmes in our target countries and at a global level. They will report directly into the RWA’s Director of Programmes and Investment, shaping and delivering the future RWA as a highly effective and impactful learning organisation.
- Project management to ensure RWA’s Programmes and Investment-related activities are delivered on time and within budget. Using agreed project management software, track and report RWA’s programme-related deliverables.
- Conduct research and integrate findings to strengthen RWA Programmes design and delivery: Provide regular inputs and updates on water-related climate, and climate-related water policies, practices, and trends in RWA’s focus countries and target markets and at a global level using quantitative and qualitative approaches, to inform RWA’s understanding of local markets and project origination & early-stage development efforts.

Title: Director of Strategic Development
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Contract: Full-time, 37.5 hours a week (flexible working hours considered)
Location: Hybrid working between London office and remote.

We are seeking an exceptional Director of Strategic Development who will play a pivotal role in advancing Big Change’s mission. You will be accountable for cultivating a purpose-led partnership portfolio, taking responsibility for securing funding (£2m+) and further activating our community of supporters. You will be motivated to grow the organisation but not just for the sake of it; the value of your work will revolve around catalysing and deepening impact with a long-term outlook for the work we do.
This position involves working closely with our existing community of entrepreneurial major donors and funders as well as spotting new opportunities at the intersection of our expert team, innovative projects and expansive network. We have big aims around systems change and transformation so we’re growing our team in order to bring skills and experience in this space. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in leading partnership and programme development, working collaboratively with a focus on achieving sustainable outcomes. The Role
Accountabilities
1. Strategic Partnerships Development:
-
Work closely with the senior leadership and development team to embed a long-term partnerships strategy.
-
Take overall responsibility for Big Change’s income, driving the growth of a portfolio of partners that sets us up to achieve our mission, pre-empting and thoughtfully managing any tension between commercial and impact drivers.

Qualify, develop, and manage relationships with strategic partners across the system, including complementary delivery partners, trusts, foundations, businesses, non-profit organisations and governmental agencies.

Work with leaders in each area of the organisation to develop a strong model for partnerships linked to impact.

Lead the creation of partnerships that enable experimentation and launch new ventures and projects.
-
Negotiate and formalise partnership agreements that bring in resources, expertise, and influence to advance organisational goals.

Lead by example with a fresh, creative and open-minded approach to partnerships.
2. Pipeline Development:

Design and execute a comprehensive income development plan that aligns with the organisation’s goals and priorities.

Lead on pursuits for funding opportunities through grants, major gifts, corporate sponsorships and other revenue streams.

Work closely with the finance, impact and community teams to align fundraising efforts with project needs and organisational priorities.

Track and report on fundraising progress, ensuring transparency and accountability in all pipeline development activities.

Deliver on annually agreed revenue targets without compromising the integrity of the charity.

Employ a robust control environment (e.g. policies and contract management), manage risks and implement risk mitigation strategies in relation to all fundraising and awareness raising activity.
3. Leadership and Team Development:

Lead and mentor a team focused on partnerships and development in a systemic context, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Champion continual professional development and support team members to grow and build their skills and careers.

Foster an organisational-wide partnership mindset, responsible for sharing the knowledge, inspiration and tools.

Manage departmental budgets, ensuring efficient allocation and use of resources.

4. Partner & Funder Engagement:

Provide overall vision and leadership that inspires ongoing support for Big Change across our supporter network.

Along with the wider team, develop and implement strategies to further deepen relationships with major donors and partners including individuals, foundations, and corporate sponsors.

Lead efforts to steward major gifts and multi-year funding commitments for new and ongoing projects.

Oversee tailored stewardship to major donors, ensuring their ongoing engagement and satisfaction with their contributions.

Collaborate with the CEO and Trustees to identify and approach new prospects.
5. External Communication and Advocacy:

Inspire stakeholders by expertly representing Big Change at events and external engagements.

Define and communicate value propositions with ambition and deep insight.

Advocate for the organisation's work within the philanthropic and broader social impact community.

Collaborate with the communications team to enhance the organisation’s visibility and reputation through strategic messaging and outreach.

Proven ability to develop and manage high-impact partnerships in a systems-change context.

Strong track record in major gift fundraising and donor engagement.

Qualifications / experience

3+ years leading a high-performing strategic partnerships team, preferably within a philanthropic or non-profit organisation.

Experience leading teams that consistently meet 7-figure annual funding targets.

Experience in launching and managing new ventures or projects.

Understanding of approaching complex problems with systems change methodologies.

Strategy design and delivery.

Confidence and experience navigating varied funder landscapes (including trusts and foundations, businesses, major donors, government bodies).

Reporting to senior governance bodies within a charity.

Experienced in the negotiation and agreement of contracts with valued partners.
