What you'll be doing:
This role is all about developing a welcoming and supportive peer support group community for kinship carers in the North West of England. Building belonging, resilience and empowerment for support group leaders and kinship carers.As a Peer Support Officer, you’ll make sure we deliver an exceptional and consistent peer support service for kinship carers.
You will set-up and develop new in person groups in areas of high need, as well as supporting existing groups to thrive, developing a resilient and powerful peer support community.
What you’ll need to demonstrate:

- Proven experience in reaching and establishing strong relationships with hidden or underserved communities in person.
- Significant experience developing peer support communities.
- Excellent communication and engagement skills, with good attention to detail.

There is a growing need to support the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of children in order to reduce the potential onset of long term mental ill health, mitigate escalation and prevent crisis point. Recent years have seen an unprecedented surge in demand for mental health care in children across the UK.
Looked after children are highly vulnerable to emotional and relationship difficulties, putting them at risk of long-term mental health issues and placement breakdown with their carers.
Many foster parents struggle to cope with the emotional and mental health challenges of the children they look after. If they cannot access support or do not develop the necessary skills and emotional capacity, this can lead to placements breaking down and more resulting mental health challenges for the foster children who can then feel even more unloved, uncared for and abandoned.
Primary Responsibilities:

To support the stormbreak Together programme delivery (face to face and online).

To establish and collaborate with external project partners and stakeholders, e.g. local authorities, independent fostering and adoption agencies, residential care settings.

About the role:
We are looking to appoint a Family Support Worker to deliver high-quality family support services as part of our South West Care Team.
Reporting to the Family Support Manager and working in partnership with health, education, and social care professionals, you will take responsibility for providing needs-led emotional, social, and practical support to families where a child/young person has a life threatening or terminal illness.

About the Service

‘I want someone who I can do nice things with, too, not someone who just talks about what has gone wrong, or drugs and other things……I think about those negatives all the time anyway and I want a worker who I can feel positive with, happy’ (service user supported by another Housing First Project).
About the Role
Assist in the day-to-day delivery of the service, managing a small service user caseload with the overall goal of supporting these women to sustain a (new) tenancy
Provide trauma-informed, solution-focused support to service users, tailored to individual needs and aspirations, with service users being able to choose as far as possible, what, how and when support is delivered
Advocate where appropriate on behalf of service users with external agencies regarding their welfare rights, Primary Health Care needs and other issues affecting their health and well being
Promote social inclusion, encourage independence and develop personal resilience of women with multiple needs affected by violence
Maintain accurate case notes and up to date records
Attend and contribute to multi agency safeguarding meetings e.g. MARAC, as appropriate
About You
Some experience in providing emotional and/or practical support to women who have experienced VAWG, homelessness or multiple disadvantage
Knowledge of the particular needs of women from diverse communities and the barriers to accessing support faced by black and minoritized women
Experience of working in partnerships with other agencies e.g. signposting, making referrals, supporting with appointments
An understanding of the impact of trauma on women experiencing abuse
Awareness of the intersection between severe and multiple disadvantage and VAWG, and an understanding of how the intersection of these issues can make it difficult for people to engage with support
A good knowledge of safeguarding practice and procedures
Ability to provide strengths-based support.
A resilient and assertive approach to reaching out to and building trust and positive relationships with women who have complex/multiple needs and who may present as reluctant to engage and/or may be presenting in crisis
Excellent organisational, ICT, written and verbal communication skills

FearFree is committed to hybrid working and this role will be a mix of home based and office based in either Exeter or Barnstaple, alongside requiring travel across the county for multi-agency meetings and to deliver group support. Occasional travel to our other offices may be required.
Key responsibilities:
- To join the highly effective teams across FearFree to provide Behaviour Change support to perpetrators of domestic abuse.
- To reduce the risk of reoffending and of harm posed by domestic abuse perpetrators and increase the safety and wellbeing of victims and children.
- To provide perpetrators with an understanding of domestic abuse, healthy relationships and communication, the impact on victims and children and support them to use new techniques and strategies to change their behaviour.
- To ensure the safety and wellbeing of children is paramount, working with our Partner Safety Worker, Children’s Workers and Children’s Social Care as required.
- To complete evidence based risk assessments and safety and support plans for each case.
- To co-facilitate perpetrator behaviour change programmes, following a clear manual.

- Work with perpetrators of domestic abuse, offering a targeted service, reducing the risk of serious harm.

- Attend Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC) and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) meetings as required.
- Give information and support to service users regarding their other needs and refer them to other support services as required.
- Ensure our service is widely accessible – adapting practice as required to suit individuals.
- Work across a large geographical area to ensure locality is not a barrier to accessing services.
- Deliver training and information sessions to promote our service, and increase awareness and understanding of domestic abuse.
- Co-deliver specialist group-work programmes for perpetrators of domestic abuse, following a clear manual.
- Have a responsibility around safeguarding of both adults and children, maintaining knowledge of appropriate policies and procedures and integrated working.
- Support other agencies in the identification and referral of domestic abuse issues via promotion of service and institutional advocacy.
- Ensure all referrals are clearly logged on our database and all case records are kept fully updated, according to FearFree policies and procedures.
- Attend and engage with case reviews, risk reviews and Treatment Management as required.
- Work closely with Partner Safety Worker and Children’s workers to ensure the safety of the victim and children and a holistic view of risk.
- Manage a caseload ensuring each client receives the appropriate service individual to their risk and needs.
- Support the empowerment of the client.
- Engage with case management supervision.
- Support colleagues in perpetrator services across FearFree as required.
- Contribute to effective team working with a flexible and pro-active approach, including cover for other team members’ holidays and sickness.
- Undertake all statutory and mandatory training, as required by the organisation.

What you'll do:
Responsible for key-working a caseload assigned by the Management
Undertake initial and continuous assessment of needs and potential risks and agree levels of support and actions to professional standards
Co-develop a positive behaviour support plan with the individual that identifies triggers and actions required to enable positive risk taking through reduced risks
Support customers to engage with agreed support programme
Support customers to claim and receive eligible benefits, deal with relevant agencies to develop life skills, budgeting, financial literacy, and managing finances effectively
Encourage tenants to pay their rent and to ensure that rent accounts are managed effectively
Motivate individuals to prepare and cook healthy meals safely, going shopping and offering guidance on buying balanced nutritious food
Enable customers to improve their skills to manage their day-to-day activities such a making telephone calls, dealing with correspondence, attending appointments and form filling
Support customers to access other services including CMHT, substance misuse agencies and/or work in partnership with other agencies as part of the support planning process
Develop and maintain links with key agencies and service providers in the local community
Lead on an area of specialism (e.g. ETE, health and wellbeing) and build partnerships and develop internal and external opportunities for service-users in this area

Our Wigan & Leigh service are recruiting for 2 compassionate and approachable Family Workers, to provide information and advice to parents in relation to substance misuse and its impact on themselves and their family. The postholder will work as part of an integrated network of dedicated professionals, supporting parents to make positive changes in relation to substance misuse. As part of this role, you will be working in our new Family Safeguarding Model, providing support and advice to families and parents who are experiencing difficulties due to substance misuse.
As a Family Worker, you will offer interventions to support parents with substance misuse issues, whilst working to raise awareness of and improve access to appropriate services, with a focus on using Motivational Interviewing techniques. You will provide ongoing support through 1:1 or group sessions. It will be vital for you to develop strong and positive relationships with clients and their families, whilst managing an active caseload and ensuring continuity of care.
The role will be based in one of our Family Hubs. Our Family Safeguarding Teams are co–located multidisciplinary teams consisting of social work professionals and adult workers. Their aim is to work collaboratively with families, at the right time, respecting families’ rights, following guidance and law. They take a whole family approach to child protection to keep more children safely at home with their families.
You will have demonstrable experience of working in the health, social care or family setting, with the ability to connect quickly with clients and families. It is important that you are self-motivated and resilient, as well as comfortable working alone and on a one to one basis. Working knowledge of substance misuse would be advantageous but we are open to conversations with all applicants who have a passion for working with families. Above all, we are looking for someone who is empathetic and values-driven and has the drive to make real changes, using a positive and engaging approach.
