We are a local charity to Broxbourne and East Herts. We support local voluntary organisations and empower local community groups. Skills and Qualities

Essential:

• Chartered CIPD membership and / or postgraduate qualification in either Human Resources Management or Employment Law, or working towards these qualifications
• Generalist HR experience and a good working knowledge of HR systems
• Experience at recruitment interviewing and assessment, including at a senior level
• First-hand experience of providing HR support for organisational change
• Experience of writing and implementing employment policies and procedures
• Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills
• Excellent IT skills, including MS Office package
• Ability to plan, prioritise and delegate and to work closely within a busy team / able to work independently and confidentially
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
• Ability to deal professionally, tactfully and confidently with people at all levels, both internal and external audiences
• Good working knowledge of relevant legislative framework and HR best practice, including equality, employment, immigration and data protection

Desirable:

• Education to degree level
• Experience in a HR role within private sector and / or ”not for profit” organisations employing at least 50 people
• Previous experience of designing and delivering HR training/briefings for managers
• Experience of managing budgets
• Understanding the issues inherent in operating within a geographically dispersed organisation

My Life Films is an award-winning charity that uses film and TV to enrich and support the lives of people affected by dementia. This includes My Life TV, our specialist on-demand streaming service, with bespoke curated content designed to improve wellbeing. We are also known for our award-winning life story film service.

My Life TV is carefully put together with a wide range of content to enable people living with dementia to feel stimulated and connected to the world, improving their mental health and supporting their essential care. We work with highly respected content partners as well as produce our own programming in partnership with trusted organisations in the dementia care field and more widely.

About the Role

This is a hugely exciting opportunity for an experienced and confident interim CEO to come into the organisation and lead it during this important transition period, which is where we are shifting our model from in-house sales and marketing to a partner-led approach. We believe this will be the best way to reach and deliver benefits to people affected by dementia. This role will secure this partnership and develop a new strategy for My Life Film's next chapter.

Our current Executive Director is moving on for family reasons, having stewarded the charity and led the development and expansion of My Life TV over the past two years. She will remain available part-time with My Life Films for a short handover period.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Interim ED will be responsible for all aspects of the charity's work and will be passionate about our work supporting people with dementia, entrepreneurial and collaborative, with commercial Business Development, Partnerships, and experience of charity mergers would be beneficial (but is not essential) as we have an experienced Board who will be on hand to support you.

As leader of the My Life Films team, you will also work across governance, finance, income generation, and impact. You will be responsible for delivering My Life Films' immediate strategy and working with the Board of Trustees.

About You

- Progress strategic partnership discussions for My Life TV with existing partners and identified potential partners to move to a wholesale or reseller model for My Life TV, or potentially acquisition of the service by another charity, company or care organisation

- Develop financial and operational models for potential partnerships, including scenario planning and P&L analysis, involving content, tech, marketing, and charitable impact. Lead negotiations, bringing in commercial, accounting, or legal support as needed.

- Work with the Board to create a strategic plan for My Life TV and new dementia-focused services, aligning with the charity's mission.

- Oversee daily operations, including finance, income generation, content production, partnerships, and reporting.

- Secure necessary funding through trusts, foundations, care groups, and events, representing My Life Films to stakeholders.

- Cultivate a positive environment, recruit and restructure as needed and provide coaching to enhance team performance.

You’ll be the first port of call for many internal colleagues, Board members and external stakeholders, with our Chief Executive active as part of many London and national fora. Great customer service, exemplary diary management, and a commitment to ISHA’s values are a must.

Some of the key responsibilities for this role will include:

• Managing the CEO inbox, prioritising emails for responses etc, ensuring delegating task are completed. Prioritise enquiries and requests whilst troubleshooting conflicts and making judgements and recommendations to ensure smooth day to day arrangements.
• Manage the Chief Executive’s diary ensuring that Chief Executive is fully briefed.
• Build and maintain trustworthy relationships with the Chief Executive’s key stakeholders and colleagues. To communicate and liaise with sensitively but confidently with people from all levels, both internally and externally including board members, executive directors, Senior Management Team, the local authority and other housing association partners and residents.
• Oversee the coordination of information to assist the Chief Executive in preparing for key meetings with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Timetabling key discussions in the business cycle.
• Collating and publishing Leadership team papers and tracking actions.
• Liaising with Third party providers to ensure the smooth running of contracts/projects.
• Processing of invoices for the Chief Executive with related spend.
• Playing a key role in Chief Executive led initiatives to ensure the timely and successful deliver, for example aways days and or our staff conference.
• Prepare expenses and other financial matters in line with our financial regulations.
• Other duties that help us deliver first rate services to our residents and customers internal and external, for example minute taking time to time.
• Organise any travel arrangements.

The Hardman Trust is at an exciting point in its development as it celebrates the arrival of its new team, the realisation of its first ever strategy and looks forward to the next phase of its journey.

Our recently successful applications to both the Lottery (Reaching Communities) and the City Bridge Trust means we will continue to be part-funded by them until 2027. Deeply rooted in the criminal justice sector, we plan to develop further our programme of support for those on long sentences both within and, we hope, beyond prison too; we aim to extend the reach and deepen the impact of our support and grants; and attract new partnerships with funders and like-minded third sector organisations. We have recently completed a merger with another charity and are open to further such mergers in the future.

We are seeking an operational and people focussed Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our Executive Team. You will drive development of all financial and operational management, processes and reporting, overseeing the organisation’s day-to-day operations including the leadership of Finance, People, Governance, Fundraising, Marketing and Communications and Digital. 

The successful candidate will have held broad finance and operations positions, with a track record of interacting at Board level and presenting clear financial and management information. Whilst you don’t have to be financially qualified, we do need someone with strong financial acumen and demonstrable ability to monitor, interpret and communicate financial information effectively. You will have experience in implementing new and/or successful improvements to existing systems and processes, with a track record of driving organisational change. The post holder will have a good understanding of regulation and best practice alongside the ability to develop efficient processes and controls in line with our governance framework. Ensuring that people are at the centre of the Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) you will play a key role within the Executive team supporting the charity to achieve sustainable growth and delivery of efficient and effective services ensuring plans are developed and implemented, and targets are met. 

You will have a passion for our purpose, commitment to our mission and alignment with our organisational values. Whilst being robust about process, you need to be able to flex to changing circumstances and be skilled at getting the best out of people as well as driving a culture of continuous improvement and learning. Crucially, you will be wholly committed to driving forward the core infrastructure for our work supporting nurses and midwives in leadership development to improve health and care outcomes.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills 

• Proven experience as a senior leader in ideally a non-profit or public sector organisation

• Strong and extensive operations management experience, financial leadership and programme delivery 

• Experience of working on projects to integrate systems and improve processes / ways of working would be highly desirable 

• Demonstrated success in strategic planning, organisational development and stakeholder engagement 

• Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff 

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of representing the charity effectively to external audience 

• Experience of working with a Charity Board of Trustees 

• Proven ability to develop a long term financial strategy and plans 

• Experience of developing and implementing processes and policies as well as setting standards and targets aligned to organisation objectives 

• A commitment to the charity's mission and values 

• Excellent numerical and analytical skills with the ability to distil and communicate complex financial information in a way that is easy to understand 

• Ability to think strategically, anticipating future trends and developing plans accordingly 

• Encourage innovation and seek to understand best practice from both inside and outside the sector 

• Strong financial acumen and demonstrable ability to monitor, interpret and communicate financial information effectively is essential 

• ACCA/CIMA/ACA or an equivalent finance qualification is desirable
