Key responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Management

• Develop and implement the charity’s financial strategy to align it to the charity’s main strategy and support long-term goals.
• Provide financial insights to the leadership team to guide decision-making and resource allocation.
• Lead on the preparation of the annual budget, ensuring alignment with the charity's strategic objectives.
• Monitor and forecast financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities.
• Work with the Treasurer and trustees to develop and update financial policies and procedures as part of the Resources Committee.
• Keep under review AvMA reserves strategy and policy and recommend changes as necessary. 

Day to Day Financial Duties

• Manage and oversee all financial transactions, including accounts payable & receivable, payroll and banking.
• Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts and cash flow reports.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, including VAT, Gift Aid, and charity reporting standards.
• In conjunction with our investment advisers, support the trustees and CEO with the management of an investment portfolio including the planning of necessary drawdowns for cashflow management purposes.
• Oversee the preparation of year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors.
• Maintain and update financial systems, ensuring robust controls are in place.  

Leadership & Collaboration

• Act as a financial advisor to the CEO, trustees and senior leadership team on all matters.
• Present financial reports at board and committee meetings, explaining complex financial data in an accessible way.
• Work closely with fundraising, operations and medico legal teams to align financial plans with organisational objectives.
• Provide mentorship and support to junior finance staff and/or volunteers, as applicable.

Other Duties

• To undertake other duties as required commensurate with this post.
• To attend quarterly Board meetings in person in London.  

 Person Specification

Essential:

1. Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA) or equivalent financial experience.
2. Proven experience in financial management, ideally within a charity or non-profit organisation.
3. Strong knowledge of UK charity accounting standards (SORP) and regulatory requirements as they apply to charities.
4. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial strategies.
5. Proficiency in financial software (e.g. Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
6. Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
7. Good communication skills, with the ability to articulate clearly and effectively both in writing, on the telephone and face to face.
8. Ability to lead, manage and work effectively both as a member of a team and on own initiative.  Be well organised and remain calm under pressure.
9. Forward thinking and able to suggest appropriate changes to AvMA’s services to meet the changing needs of the public and the clinical negligence marketplace.
10. Passion, commitment and drive to promote patient rights and follow the aims of AvMA.
11. IT literate and confident with technological change.  Able to identify opportunities to improve our data collection systems; an awareness of the power of social media and how to use it to promote AvMA’s work.

The Fundraising Events Team is a passionate team of specialists responsible for creating and delivering a combination of income generating and engagement events. We generate valuable funds through a portfolio of fundraising dinners, golf days, a clay shoot and other events; and deliver a range of engagement opportunities for the Philanthropy & Major Giving and Corporate Partnership teams to attract, retain and thank our supporters. The Fundraising Events team plays a significant role in supporting income generation across the wider Fundraising Team.

What you will be working on? 

As an events manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of an annual portfolio of events that inspire, motivate, and develop support for the charity. You will be responsible for ensuring high quality stewardship opportunities and maximising income potential from fundraising activities.

You will collaborate closely with colleagues across the Corporate Partnerships and Philanthropy & Major Gifts teams to ensure we are delivering great experiences for our supporters.

Your key accountabilities include:

• Project managing and delivering events from conception through to completion, ensuring events achieve the agreed KPIs and ROI.
• Leading on all details of the event production (including guest and supplier management, production of printed materials, briefings, sourcing and managing of prizes for fundraising events, supplier liaison etc)
• Responsible for budget management and accountable for achieving financial targets of agreed events.
• Develop relationships with key event suppliers and manage partnerships, including fundraising committees, to achieve the best possible outcomes for the charity.
• Work as an active member of the Fundraising Events team, feeding into wider team plans and working across the Fundraising team to deliver joint projects.

We’re looking for someone with

• Demonstrable experience of delivering and managing successful fundraising or profit-making events. 
• Experience of budget setting, budget management and delivering an efficient return on investment.
• Ability to create and deliver operational plans, with an eye on the bigger picture, as well as operational detail. 
• Experience of successfully working to deadlines and targets. 
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders both internally and externally.

We are seeking an individual to undertake the dual role of promoting the profile of the RAF Benevolent Funds welfare offer, whilst also carrying out welfare casework. Post holders will be expected to undertake holistic assessment of need both remotely (over the telephone and online) and when required in person across their region. You will be expected to work with individuals who may have complex and sometimes challenging welfare needs, assisting them by identifying appropriate support from within both the RAF Benevolent Fund and the wider statutory and military charity sector, ensuring that support is made available to meet their need through the case working process.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a social welfare role supporting individuals and will have strong people and relationship-building skills, as well as empathy with or understanding of issues affecting the Armed Forces community.

This is a community-based position working from home (ideally based in Nottinghamshire) but covering the East Midlands region. • Performing reconciliations of the subsidiary ledgers to review non-bank balance sheet and key profit and loss accounts monthly to ensure the accuracy of the monthly management accounts, maintaining appropriate documentation to support the audit.
• Preparing necessary journals to rectify and clear incorrect or irrelevant balances and mis-postings in the subsidiary ledgers
• Monitoring and actioning the subsidiary finance service desk tickets

For almost 50 years The Dash Charity has been supporting individuals and families experiencing domestic abuse, empowering women, men and children to recognise the tactics of abuse, break the cycle, and take back control of their lives.

We were one of the first charities in the UK to be awarded Leading Lights status for our Advocacy and Outreach Services by SafeLives, and pioneered healthy relationships workshops in schools over a decade ago.

We run three refuges that offer a sanctuary to women and children escaping violence and abuse, offering specialist children’s support and one to one support for women.

We’re now looking for an ambitious and dedicated individual to help us to secure essential funding to continue delivering our life-changing services into the future.

Role Purpose:

We are seeking an ambitious individual that cares about ending violence against women and girls, who is determined to make a difference for all adults and children experiencing domestic abuse. As The Dash Charity Development Officer, you will be responsible for seeking funding from trusts and foundations, to enable us to deliver life changing services and projects.

You will have excellent attention to detail and be willing to gain a strong understanding of how the charity works and the services we deliver by working closely with our frontline staff.

SUMMARY

This maternity cover role will be responsible for the Lab's internal workings - people, culture, ways of working and operations. As an Executive level role, it will share overall responsibility for the Lab’s impact with the other members of the Exec (CEO, COO, Director of Programmes and Campaigns).

The role will be specifically responsible for:

• the people function, including team days, our annual retreat, and internal communications, as well as Human Resource management and our staff handbook),
• programme support, including stewardship of our Monitoring, Evaluation, learning and Planning system),
• coordinating the team’s fundraising work, and
• managing other areas of our operations, such as IT and infrastructure, including our new CRM system.
• The post-holder will be responsible for line managing the Operations Manager.

The post-holder will work closely with the COO, who will be leading on finance and governance. Together, they will be responsible for drafting the plan for the Lab’s Operations function in 2026.

This post is a 13 month fixed term contract, running from mid-May 2025 to mid-June 2026.

LOCATION

The team work remotely for the majority of the time, but as this role is responsible for people and culture ideally you will be able to attend monthly ‘team together days’ in London (travel paid if outside of London area) as well as an annual two-night retreat elsewhere in the UK in November. However, we don’t want this to be a barrier to applicants, so you can let us know at the interview stage if this would not be possible or will cause you challenges.

RESPONSIBILITIES

People: Ensure we recruit, retain, support and nourish a strong staff team and maintain a culture that reflects our values of ambition, collaboration and empowerment.

• Lead implementation of the Lab’s people and human resources strategy (together with the COO), in line with our core values, to maximise the team’s contribution to our mission (including team structure and roles, recruitment, onboarding and retention, staff handbook, and professional development).
• Develop and hold our team culture (together with the COO), aligned to the Lab’s core values, and ensure that the organisation maintains an effective, efficient and human working environment. Help ensure that we live our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, in general as well as in areas that fall under your remit.
• Lead internal communications, ensuring that the team are informed about and involved in new developments as appropriate, including planning and coordinating team away days through the year.
• Support effective management of staff: Line manage the Operations Manager. Support Heads of Programme and others to develop and manage staff and freelancers, ensuring that we treat all our people fairly and responsibly.

Operations: Oversee effective systems and support colleagues who manage those systems.

• Oversee and support the Operations Manager to ensure that our core processes run smoothly; we have the infrastructure to support our growth, including office space and IT, and supplies; and that they are able to effectively support the programme team with reports, events and other projects.
• Oversee the Lab’s fundraising process, including identifying and researching potential new funders, maintaining our overview of our fundraising pipeline, funder timelines, monthly priorities, and record keeping. Support the Lab team to manage funding proposals and coordinate the development of funding proposal budgets, working closely with programme leads. Ensure funding reporting requirements are met, including supporting programme leads to draft programme reports, and the Finance Manager to prepare financial reports.
• Coordinate and oversee the Lab’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Planning system ensuring the team have what they need to complete the various elements, meet deadlines, and get the most out of the process. [RSS1] 
• Ensure high standards of information management across the organisation, enabling staff to share and access resources, insights and know-how. This includes maintaining high standards of data protection and privacy that embody the Lab’s commitment to responsible use of data, and maintaining the Lab’s new CRM system. 

Executive Team support: you will be a collaborative and engaged member of a strong executive team.

• Lead and manage organisational development projects to ensure that the Lab has effective, appropriate operational policies and processes, and that staff understand and implement these policies and processes.
• Be a collaborative, engaged and supportive colleague and be willing to take on or change responsibilities to help the organisation operate effectively, including offering general support to the other members of the Exec as needed.

About the role

We’re seeking a well-organised coordinator to join our growing support services team and help us reach more people living with secondary (metastatic) breast cancer. You will coordinate the successful delivery of face to face and online services providing information and emotional support in the UK.

You’ll work as part of a team based across the UK and arrange delivery of services in the East of England, playing a key role in increasing our reach and uptake. 

You’ll liaise with venues, expert speakers and support our team of dedicated qualified sessional therapists, as well as providing technical support for the running of monthly online services. And you’ll build productive relationships with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to promote our services and increase their reach and uptake.

About you

We’re looking for someone with experience of developing and delivering information and support services, preferably in a health or charity environment. You’ll understand the challenges for people living with illness or complex health or social needs and be keen to use your excellent organisation and time management skills to juggle a busy workload.

You’ll enjoy working collaboratively and managing relationships with a range of stakeholders. A great team player, you’ll be flexible and able to travel and work outside normal office hours, including regular overnight stays. Above all, you’ll relish the opportunity to deliver our ambition to provide support for anyone living with secondary breast cancer who needs us, by making our services more widely available and accessible.
