Dorset needs Mosaic, Mosaic needs you
Could you take a leading role in ensuring bereaved children and young people get the support they need?
Then, become a trustee with Mosaic and help us ensure the specialist counselling, phone advice, face to face groups and peer activities we offer continue to support the children and young people who come to us.
As a Trustee you will take an active leading role in supporting the organisation’s work with children and young people. They may have lost someone special - a parent, a sibling, friend or other member of their family. We know our work is transformational, helping individuals, families, schools and communities face what can sometimes seem an unimaginably difficult period.
This is an exciting time for Mosaic as we look to support the growing number of children and young people who are referred to us. As a trustee, you will be part of an enthusiastic team taking an active role in supporting the organisation’s work. You will help ensure the charity is sustainable and steer the charity to meet the needs of those it supports, working in partnership with many other Dorset groups. You will use and improve your governance, leadership and strategy skills and build relationships with outside agencies, supporters, staff and other volunteers.
Ideally you will be Dorset-based and have some experience or knowledge of legal issues and IT systems. However, life skills gained in a range of walks of life are also an important consideration in our recruitment. Training for candidates new to the position of trustee will be provided.
There are four Board meetings a year, with two in person, as well as a Strategy Day. Trustees also take part in activities around the year such as fund-raising events, and are committed ambassadors for Mosaic, meeting with volunteers and counsellors.
Mosaic's mission is to support children and young people across the county of Dorset with their bereavement needs.

The Norwich Printing Museum is looking to recruit a small number (up to six) of new members for its Board of Trustees.
The Museum is one of very few remaining working printing museums in the UK. It was born from a collection of printing machinery, type and bindery equipment gathered by Jarrolds for their own printing museum (which closed in 2019). The Museum is now an independent charitable Trust, run by the Board of Trustees and operated by a team of volunteers (a few of whom are also Trustees). A small working ‘Museum in Residence’ on the Blickling Estate has been operating since 2021 and is due to close in October 2025. The Museum is seeking a permanent home to store and display its collections in Norwich.
Whether you are an experienced museum volunteer or trustee, someone with an interest in conserving and interpreting threatened traditional crafts, an enthusiast for the history and practice of printing, or for the city of Norwich, you will be very welcome to apply to join our Board of Trustees.
The Trustees are looking to expand their skill-base, and will welcome especially those with skills and enthusiasm in one or more of the following areas:
- Heritage project development
- Leadership and decision-making
- Museum management or curatorship
- Building management
- Fundraising
- Public education
- Printing or book history
- Printmaking
- Design history
- Bookbinding
- Marketing and publicity
- Administrative skills
- Managing volunteers
- IT and social media
- Teaching/public speaking
- Norwich and Norfolk life
The role of Trustee involves:
- Taking part in management and decision-making processes
- Working with the Board to meet the challenges that face the Museum, especially the need for new premises
- Managing the volunteers and working with them to provide the best service to the public, as a working and archival museum, a cultural and educational resource, and a visitor attraction
- Working with the Board and volunteers to raise funds and publicity for the Museum
- Engaging with other museums and collection-holders in the UK, and with the other charities and administrative bodies which support the Museum
- Working with the Board to update and expand the Museum’s policies and procedures
- Bringing your own ideas and enthusiasms to the running of the Museum
While we welcome applications from across the country, we are particularly seeking Trustees with local connections and knowledge.
Time commitment: The Board of Trustees usually meets monthly throughout the year, currently via Zoom, as well as conducting some ad hoc committee business between meetings, mostly by e-mail. Occasional events and meetings are held in Norwich.
What Trustees receive: As a Trustee you will receive the induction and training necessary for your role, and the full support of your fellow Trustees. There is no payment for Trusteeship, but traveling and material expenses may be claimed.
Closing date for applications: 1 March 2025. If you are interested in applying, or would like to find out more, please contact the Chair or Secretary (contact details below). Applicants will be sent a form requesting information on their background and skills, and their reasons for applying, along with the names of two referees (one personal, one professional). Applicants who are selected will be interviewed by representatives of the current Board, and the references of successful applicants will be taken up before their posts are confirmed.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
What we do
Together we create joy, happiness and magical memories through life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
Whether it’s starring in their own films, walking with dinosaurs, going on an amazing holiday, meeting a celebrity hero, or having a bedroom makeover; our wishes are varied, personal and lifechanging. We go above and beyond to grant amazing wishes to very amazing children; their wish made a reality at a time when they need it most. Because a child’s life shouldn’t be about illness, hospitals and diagnosis - it should be about wonder, joy and hope.
We’ve seen the effects a wish can have on a seriously ill child: from creating incredible memories, building confidence and bringing happiness, to providing respite from the daily struggles that come with a critical illness. We know what wishes can give, and this is the driving force behind why we continue to do what we do.
Our vision is to create a wish for every eligible child
The Role of a Trustee
The expectations of a trustee, as a member of the Board, are set out in our governance handbook. If you have not been a trustee before you are also advised to read The Charity Commission publication ‘The Essential Trustee’ which sets out the legal duties, you have as a trustee. However, the key thing is that you really want to make a difference for children and their families at a time when their lives are made challenging by illness or disability and that you think you will enjoy working with others equally passionate about the cause. If you can help us to extend our reach and are willing to learn about the role and the work of the charity, we would love to hear from you and to discuss whether a trustee role might be right for you.
Skills, Experience and Personal Qualities
We are looking for 2 or 3 new trustees to replace specific knowledge skills and experience lost as some of our trustees reach the end of their term. One of the trustees we recruit will be asked to chair our CEDI (Community Equality Diversity and Inclusion) Committee. We are passionate about ensuring that there’s a strong mix on our Board of Trustees with people from varying backgrounds, experiences and skills which will enable us to serve our children and families better if we have a good balance of view and voices on our Board.
At the present time our key priorities are to recruit the following skills and experience:
- Experience of transforming operational service delivery, including through the use of technology
- Experience of delivering through volunteer networks, with understanding of how to engage, motivate and support volunteers.
- Someone who is well networked with media and broadcast relationships and brings skills in marketing, brand development, and commercial income generation
The successful candidate will also demonstrate:
- A commitment to the Make a Wish values and to being led by the voice of the child
- Embedding the principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion within all that they do
- A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
- Strategic vision
- Good, independent judgement
- The ability to listen actively to other people, particularly those with views that are different to their own, and work effectively as a member of a team
Terms of Appointment
Trustees are appointed to the Board for an initial term of three years, after which they will resign and, if they so desire, offer themselves for re-election for a further three-year term. Re-election will require the unanimous support of other Trustees. Exceptionally the Articles provide for a maximum term for Trustees of 9 years but in practice, unless special circumstances exist, the Board considers that it is appropriate for Trustees to serve a maximum of six years consisting of two consecutive 3-year terms.
The post is not remunerated although expenses incurred in carrying out Board business are payable.
The Board has 4 formal meetings a year plus one strategy day and one development day. We try to make these in person meetings. Sub-Committees meet virtually a few weeks in advance of each formal Board meeting. Trustees are expected to attend all Board meetings and meetings of relevant sub-committees unless in exceptional circumstances.
To see the full Governance Handbook, apply via the link.
Appointment Process
If you are interested in applying to join our Board, please submit your CV and a brief supporting statement to outline your motivation for joining Make a Wish, and what you could bring to the role of trustee via the link.
Discussions with members of the Senior Leadership team and interviews with trustee members of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee will be arranged where there is a mutual interest in exploring further with a candidate. All candidates will also be invited to meet with STARboard, our young people’s advisory board, so that we hear the view of our young people in making our appointment decisions. The Board will then be asked to approve the appointments of the successful candidate.
If you are interested in this role, please apply via the link.
Together, we create joy, happiness and magical memories through life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

About the Legal Education Foundation (LEF)
“Why does it matter that people can understand and use the law?”
This question lies at our core. It led us to focus on the law as a tool for social justice and has become the common thread in our work. We are now one of the largest social justice funders in the UK, and one of the only to focus on the specific role and potential of the law.
We distribute around £6m a year through our grants addressing critical areas of law, such as human rights, employment, housing, discrimination, children’s rights, community care, education, immigration, asylum and public and administrative law. We fund work to advance racial, gender, and disability justice, and work with communities including tenants, workers, migrants, refugees, and children. As well as funding, we also support organisations with training, consultancy and networking opportunities while using insights from our work and the work of our grant partners to influence broader policies and systems.
Over the past 12 years, we have achieved a great deal, and the journey ahead is even more exciting. As we develop our next strategy, we are deepening our focus on strengthening those who are best placed to drive social justice, building trusting relationships with grant partners and, especially during these challenging times, showing solidarity.
For new trustees, this is a pivotal moment to help shape our future working alongside a committed board, dynamic staff team, and a wide network of grant partners, peer funders and others committed to social justice.
About being a new Trustee
There’s more information in the pack but to give a flavour, being a trustee includes: shaping and approving our vision and strategy, being part of the team that ensures we follow governance best practice, overseeing the funds and budget of the organisation, risk management and making sure we live our values.
Our trustees bring a range of perspectives and provide expertise alongside their commitment and energy. We work by consensus in a collegiate manner. Meetings are stimulating, instructive and respectful. We are experienced and supportive, and you do not need to have had previous trustee experience to apply.
