About Pain Concern
Pain Concern is a charity providing information and support to people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. All pain is unpleasant, but for the 7.8 million people in the UK living with long-term pain it is a part of everyday life. Anyone at any age can develop persistent pain and you will very probably know somebody affected. Although there is usually no cure, people who receive the appropriate treatment, information and support can manage their condition effectively with life-changing results
Role Purpose
Pain Concern is looking for volunteers to help moderate the charity’s online community on the Health Unlocked platform. Our forum provides peer support and a learning environment for people living with chronic pain and those who care for them. Forum moderators follow Health Unlocked guidance, creating a great culture and setting the tone for the forum.
As a volunteer moderator you will help to ensure that our online community is maintained as a safe, supportive and fun environment. You will gather information on what issues are important to forum users. You will help to monitor and moderate user-generated content. By joining us you will join a fast-growing and respected service.
Previous experience or training is not necessary. We are looking for a willingness to learn and a commitment to help. Knowledge of chronic pain while useful, is not essential. Due to the nature of the role, successful applicants will be required to undertake a PVG check and complete a 1hr Safeguarding online course.

Replenishment and Merchandising Volunteer - Barnt Green
The Role
Acorns have a network of shops across the West Midlands that generate a substantial level of income to enable us to care for children and their families. Our empowered Replenishment and Merchandising Volunteers support the team by replenishing stock on the shop floor and by merchandising it in an eye catching and engaging fashion.
How much time will it take?
Our shops are open Monday to Saturday (some open on Sundays too), 9am to 5pm. You can volunteer the hours that suit you, but ideally we’ll need you to be available for at least 3 hours per week.

Our Treasurer is stepping down from the Board of Trustees following a three-year tenure. We are now looking for a new Treasurer to oversee the financial affairs of the Richard Whitehead Foundation. As Treasurer you will be responsible alongside the CEO for managing the charity’s finances, preparing budgets and financial reports, ensuring proper financial controls are in place, and advising the Board on financial matters. Previous Board experience is not essential.
Disabled people face significant inequalities in education, sport, leisure and employment. They often face multiple barriers to fulfilling their potential and achieving their aspirations. Sport and physical activity have the power to inspire, enable, build self-esteem, and provide success. They can improve physical health, employability, mental well-being and social community inclusion. However, many barriers prevent disabled people from accessing sport. These include a lack of coaching, clubs, transport, equipment and support networks, as well as high costs and negative perceptions of disabled people participating in sport.
We are a fairly new charity established in 2021, with big ambitions for the future. We have started with small but meaningful projects. We are reaching out to disabled people, learning from our projects, and focusing on our vision and purpose.

Treasurer - Role Profile
Term of office: 3 years
The Richard Whitehead Foundation exists to support disabled people to achieve their ambitions and improve their social welfare through participation in sport and physical activity.
All Trustees have joint responsibility for the following main duties:
1. Ensure the Richard Whitehead Foundation (RWF) is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit. This means you should:
●ensure you understand RWF’s purposes as set out in its governing document;
●plan what RWF will do, and what you want it to achieve;
●be able to explain how all RWF’s activities are intended to further or support its purposes;
●understand how RWF benefits the public by carrying out its purposes.
2. Comply with RWF’s governing document and the law. You and your co-trustees must:
●make sure that RWF complies with its governing document;
●comply with charity law requirements and other laws that apply to RWF including submitting an annual return.
3. Act in the Richard Whitehead Foundation’s best interests. You must:
●do what you and your co-trustees (and no one else) decide will best enable RWF to carry out its purposes;
●with your co-trustees, make balanced and adequately informed decisions, thinking about the long term as well as the short term;
●avoid putting yourself in a position where your duty to your charity conflicts with your personal interests or loyalty to any other person or body;
●not receive any benefit from RWF unless it’s properly authorised and is clearly in RWF’s interests; this also includes anyone who is financially connected to you, such as a partner, dependent child or business partner.
4. Manage RWF’s resources responsibly. You must act responsibly, reasonably and honestly. This is sometimes called the duty of prudence. Prudence is about exercising sound judgement. You and your co-trustees must:
●make sure RWF’s assets are only used to support or carry out its purposes;
●not take inappropriate risks with RWF’s assets or reputation;
●not over-commit RWF;
●take special care when investing or borrowing;
●comply with any restrictions on spending funds.
5. Act with reasonable care and skill. As someone responsible for governing the Richard Whitehead Foundation, you:
●must use reasonable care and skill, making use of your skills and experience and taking appropriate advice when necessary;
●should give enough time, thought and energy to your role, for example by preparing for, attending and actively participating in all trustees’ meetings.
6. Ensure the Richard Whitehead Foundation is accountable. You and your co-trustees must comply with statutory accounting and reporting requirements. You should also:
●be able to demonstrate that RWF is complying with the law, well run and effective;
●ensure appropriate accountability to members, if RWF develops a membership separate from the trustees;
●ensure accountability within RWF, particularly where you delegate responsibility for particular tasks or decisions to staff or volunteers.
Roles and responsibilities specific to the role of Treasurer:
The primary role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the Richard Whitehead Foundation’s financial affairs, ensuring its viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. The role is supported by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The essential tasks are:
- General financial oversight
●To oversee accounts and financial statements.
●To liaise with the CEO on financial matters.
●To ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
●To ensure compliance with charity SORP (FRS102), charity commission, HMRC and Companies House requirements.
●To ensure any recommendations of the independent examiner or auditor are implemented.
●To ensure accounts meet the conditions of contractual agreements with external agencies such as funders and statutory bodies.
- Financial planning and reporting
●To support the CEO in presenting financial reports and statements to the Board.
●To advise on RWF’s reserves policy and investment policy.
●To advise on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic and operational plans.
●To ensure that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of RWF.
Experience, Skills & Behaviours required to fulfil the role of Treasurer effectively:
●Knowledge and understanding of the Charity SORP (FRS102)
●Experience of financial control and budgeting, preferably within the charity sector.
●Attention to detail.
●Good communication and interpersonal skills.
●A willingness to be contacted on an ad hoc basis.
●Ability to ensure financial decisions are taken and followed-up.
●Good time-keeping.

●Commitment to attend meetings, and to respond to communication between meetings. Currently the Board meetings are face to face quarterly, usually at a weekend, and with interim online committee meetings, usually in the evenings and quarterly.

A bit about this role
At Cats Protection we help thousands of cats and kittens each year thanks to our dedicated and passionate volunteer groups. We have over 250 branches across the UK, all of which help our feline friends in different ways. Branches take in stray and abandoned cats and ensure they receive the veterinary care and attention they deserve, help raise funds, promote neutering and help spread cat welfare messages. Our branch team leader volunteers lead their local team by supporting and managing volunteers within their group, maintaining communications with both volunteers and staff, and helping promote a positive and professional image of Cats Protection.

Time expectation

Marie Curie Companion is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.
Companion Volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support. Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community.

Provide one-to-one companionship and support.
For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested (This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. About this opportunity
We are seeking a committed vegetarian or vegan interested in taking up the role of Chair on our Board of Trustees.
Vegetarian for Life (VfL) is the only UK charity specifically dedicated to supporting older vegetarians and vegans. If you share our belief that all older people should be enabled to maintain their chosen diet and lifestyle, have access to trusted information on healthy eating and rights, and enjoy good quality food wherever they live, this role may be of interest to you.
Our trustees work with the CEO of VfL and its operational team to ensure good governance and realise the strategic aims and development of this unique charity. VfL has achieved sustained growth and impact since it was formed in 2007 and is highly respected for the breadth and quality of its work across care, advocacy, and catering sectors.
In anticipation of our current Chair completing her tenure in 2025, we currently seek someone who has the potential to lead our small board and sustain its effectiveness in supporting VfL towards further progress in the years ahead. Ideally, the candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience in Governance and an understanding of the sector within which VfL operates.
The role of Trustee is a voluntary one although expenses are paid when incurred in connection with the role. The board meets quarterly, mainly via video conferencing but with at least one meeting a year in Manchester where VfL is based. Full board meetings are held on a Saturday. Some communications occur between meetings (usually by WhatsApp or email) and occasionally additional (short) meetings are required to make decisions timeously – these will always be scheduled by arrangement with members.

What are we looking for?
The Chair is a trustee of the Othona Community Trust and a Director of the Othona Community Company and both organisations enjoy working together as a team on behalf of the whole Community to operate the two centres. As chair you will be leading a board of Trustees (some of whom are Link Trustees for the centres).
Alongside your understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship, and commitment to voluntary public service you must be willing to uphold Othona’s inclusive Christian ethos; to think strategically and creatively; and lead the trustees forward, contributing your skills to our team.
If you have any of these experiences it would be great:
- Previous Trustee or board experience or similar e.g. school governor
- Strategic understanding of management in residential settings and/or the hospitality sector
- Ability to understand basic financial data and read spreadsheets.
- Experience of working within Charity Commission guidelines

We are looking for volunteers who have a couple of hours a week to give on a regular basis to make friendly calls to people living with epilepsy who are feeling lonely or isolated.

You don’t have to have epilepsy yourself and your check-in calls don’t even have to be about epilepsy, sometimes people want to forget about that for a while and instead have a friendly conversation about what’s on telly, their favourite sport or their hobby.
You might be able to encourage them to get out and make more connections in their community but even if all you do is make someone laugh you have brightened their day and made a difference.
What's involved?
There is a DBS check to ensure we keep everyone safe and some basic training to enable you to get started. You’ll then be ready to start making calls. Calls typically last 30 minutes so depending how much time you have to give you can make a difference to two or three people a week, maybe even more!
Calls can easily be made over the phone or if you prefer over video call it's up to you which you prefer.
The role is flexible so that you can choose a time to volunteer that suits you. We only ask that you stick to that same time and day each week as it makes it easier for the service user to remember when to expect a call. We also ideally want you to be able to volunteer for at least a year so that service users have a consistent experience.
You’ll be fully supported by our befriending team and you’ll get to join our volunteer community with regular volunteer meet-ups. Our volunteer portal makes it easy to connect to other volunteers in your area or with shared interests and to be part of our volunteering community.

As a Trustee of the Branch, you will have the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.
As a charity trustee, you will be responsible for ensuring effective governance and strategic direction for the branch, you will provide leadership and support for the branch management team.
We are recruiting for a complementary mix of skills within our trustee board. Whilst a passion for animals is crucial, we are also looking for a diversity of skills such as general business management , finance, marketing, Legal, IT, HR and H&S etc, if this is you, we would love to hear from you.
Your role as a Trustee will require working in collaboration with your fellow trustees, staff and volunteers to ensure our branch continues to deliver our important animal welfare work.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a bi-monthly committee meeting lasting around 2 to 3 hours (virtual meetings are an option). However, the commitment may vary depending on your availability, and if you decide to take on additional duties.
Trustee do not need to live within the branch boundaries but occasional travel to Branch sites may be required from time to time.

About the RSPCA Preston & District Branch
Over 80% of the animal welfare work of the RSPCA is carried out through local Branches which are run by staff and volunteers, supported by the RSPCA National Society.
Preston & District Branch has been affiliated with the National RSPCA for 150 years!
A separately registered charity looking after animals in the local area and engaging with the local community.
Our mission is to seek out safe homes for abandoned, neglected or abused animals who are nursed back to health, rehabilitated and found forever loving homes.
Preston & District Branch is part of a network of 140 branches, and 1 of only 8 in the North of England with an animal centre.
The rehoming centre is within the Preston area (close to JCN 31 of the M6).
RSPCA Preston & District Branch is a well established Branch with approximately 20 members of staff and 75 volunteers across 4 locations and raises all its funds locally through supporters and other income streams.
To continue helping animals in need the Branch also operates 3 charity shops in Longridge, Chorley and Penwortham (within our specified branch area) which bring in a regular income to keep our animal centre open.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee
- Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
- Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.
- Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
- Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting.
- Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support local initiatives.
- Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
What we are looking for in a volunteer:
- Ideally you would have some level of knowledge in the following areas-
- Financial, Human Resources, Health & Safety backgrounds or legal; Marketing communication including social media, PR, website;
- Fundraising including corporate fundraising, trust fund and grant applications;
- Local community and supporter relationships; Project management, business development
- Awareness of employment and/or charity legislation
- General management or business administration
These all can be useful to help ensure we have a sound and robust business model and long term strategic development plan, however, they are not essential.
We are looking for people who are creative, innovative, who have experience of or are part of groups and communities we want to attract, who can bring new ideas, different experiences and fresh perspectives to the board and to help put those ideas into action.

Practical considerations
- Please also note that to become a Trustee, you will need to be aged 18 or over and a member of our branch for three months before you are eligible to be elected at our AGM.
- Trustees are elected for a 12-month term each year.
- Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
- Trustees must sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act to clarify that they are not disqualified from being a trustee and read the Charity Commission’s guidance for individuals who cannot be a trustee or senior manager of a charity.
- References will also be required.

We are a long-standing (32 years) local charity, based in Ashford, providing friendly advice, companionship and volunteering opportunities for anyone in our part of Kent who is socially isolated, lonely, or would welcome support with their mental health and wellbeing. We arrange 3 free drop-in sessions per week at Ashford Parish Rooms, at which our service users participate in a wide range of activities including crafts, singing and art therapy. - Passion and compassion for healthcare, belief in the values and principles of the NHS and a local and national understanding of the NHS.
