Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working collaboratively as part of an integral, multi-disciplinary team addressing the physical, emotional and social needs of children and young people who may be neurodivergent, as well as their families using the service
• Maintaining relevant knowledge and understanding of safeguarding standards, ensuring compliance with Norwood’s policies and procedures for promoting the welfare of children and young people as well as vulnerable young adults
• Meeting with children, young people and their families at the centre (or other community settings) or in a remote working environment (adhering to Norwood guidelines) with a view to undertaking comprehensive assessments of individual needs using a strengths-based approach, understanding the impact of neurodiversity, planning appropriate responses in partnership with children and young people and their families
• Working with statutory and other authorities and community organisations to the benefit of the families we work with
• Advising families we work with and support, on relevant legal frameworks, which may affect them
• Monitoring, reviewing and evaluating interventions in collaboration with families and recognising the changing needs/ revising interventions as appropriate
• Enabling those who we are working with and supporting to develop personal skills and strategies to improve outcomes in the identified areas in their life
• Writing reports, maintaining accurate and up to date records on the organisation’s case management system and attending any meetings or case conferences in relation to the children/young people, parents and carers to whom they are providing or have provided a service
• Liaising on behalf of those we are supporting with the Local Authority, the NHS, and other agencies in the public and independent sectors to improve outcomes for the family
• Supporting the child/ young person and their families with financial assistance applications when appropriate

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Social Worker Degree or equivalent
• Registered Social Worker with Social Work England
• Previous experience as a Social Worker either in statutory or voluntary sector Children’s Services
• Understanding of the multitude of needs faced by neurodivergent children and their families
• Sound knowledge of all relevant legislation, statutory guidance and regulations, specifically in relation to safeguarding children/young people and vulnerable adults
• Full clean driving licence, access to a car and be able to use for business purposes

Who we’re looking for:

We are looking for a hands-on social media professional with at least two years’ experience managing content for a recognised public institution or national brand. You’ll be equally confident planning campaigns and creating content yourself, with a sharp editorial eye and a clear understanding of what drives engagement in different digital contexts.

You must be:

• A confident strategist and executor, comfortable switching between content production, community management, and performance evaluation
• Skilled in writing for social media and web, with a feel for tone, accessibility, and brand consistency
• Able to film, photograph and edit content using common tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, CapCut)
• Experienced in using platform analytics to inform content decisions and reporting
• Familiar with the values and sensitivities of heritage, charitable or military organisations

Experience working in or alongside government, heritage, charity, military or third-sector organisations will be particularly valued.

You will have experience working in organisations with multiple stakeholders and will have demonstrable experience of preparing and managing annual plans, budgets, and targets. Since 2011 Disability Africa has developed a model using playschemes as hubs to deliver essential lifesaving services to extremely vulnerable disabled children and to end their exclusion in low-income African communities. Using this model, we have worked with project partners in Kenya, The Gambia, Sierra Leone and Zambia. 680 disabled children have now attended our projects more than 90,000 times since 2011. Now the charity is planning to grow and expand with our 5-year plan (‘DA2029’) to replicate the Disability Africa Model to reach more disabled children across Africa.

By 2029 we will: 
• Start work with at least 4 new partners in Africa (as well as expected growth at our existing projects).

Inclusion Specialist

We are looking for an Inclusion Specialist (term time + 3 weeks only) to join a team providing specialist support and interventions for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) impacted by the Grenfell tragedy.

Position: Inclusion Specialist

Salary: £51,429 - £58,140 per annum (£48,857 – £55,233 actual/pro-rata)

Hours: Full Time (36 hours per week)
Contract: Permanent (term time + 3 weeks only = 42 weeks)

The Role

The Inclusion Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting children and young people affected by the Grenfell tragedy. Working within the Education Hub and local schools, you will help enhance learning experiences, provide tailored interventions, and ensure inclusive practices for children with SEN.

You will:

• Deliver one-to-one and group-based interventions, including after-school programs and small group teaching sessions tailored to specific learning needs.
• Conduct diagnostic assessments to support the development of tailored learning plans.
• Work closely with families, schools, and community partners to provide holistic support for children with SEN.
• Act as a liaison between families and schools to ensure a cohesive approach to supporting children.
• Provide trauma-informed guidance to families, teachers, and school staff, focusing on emotional regulation and academic success.
• Support teachers in implementing inclusive strategies and differentiated instruction within the classroom.
• Facilitate restorative conversations between schools and families to strengthen relationships.
• Deliver Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions for school staff on SEN best practices.
• Create and distribute accessible learning resources and tools to support inclusive education.
• Regularly review pupil progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
• Work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of children and families.

About You

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a relevant SEN qualification or substantial experience in SEN support across multiple key stages.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures, including the ability to respond to concerns.
• Experience working with children across different key stages and supporting children with SEN.
• An understanding of trauma informed and restorative practice alongside a willingness to learn more.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience working with families and understanding diverse cultural contexts.
• Familiarity with relevant education legislation and policies, including the Education Act 2002, Children and Families Act 2014, Equality Act 2010, and Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023).
• Ability to track pupil progress, implement data-driven interventions, and develop inclusive education policies.
• Commitment to professional development and safeguarding responsibilities.

About the Organisation

The Grenfell Education Hub will open later this year to serve those most affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy. The hub will provide educational support to children, young people, their families, and local schools.

Following a consultation process in 2023 and 2024, the hub will bring together a team of professionals, including four specialist teachers, an Educational Psychologist, a Speech and Language Therapist, an Occupational Therapist, a Careers Coordinator, and a Family Support Worker. Their time will be split between direct work with children and families in the hub and supporting local schools.

The hub’s objectives are to:

• Provide high-quality educational support to as many children and young people as possible.
• Build the skills and confidence of children, families, and education staff in local schools.
• Develop strong relationships with those most affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.
• Accurately assess its impact.
