Africa Access Water
We equip rural communities in Zambia and Africa with solar-powered water infrastructure and systems for productive use, food security, and socio-economic development.
Africa Access Water is committed to addressing several critical social and environmental challenges that disproportionately affect rural communities across Zambia and Africa using one model. These challenges include:
-
Water Scarcity: Millions of people in rural Africa, particularly in Zambia, face limited access to clean, reliable water sources. This scarcity forces communities to rely on unsafe water, leading to waterborne diseases, poor health outcomes, and time-consuming water collection that limits productivity and social development. Africa Access Water aims to provide sustainable, solar-powered water infrastructure that ensures year-round access to clean drinking water, improving health and overall well-being.
-
Food Insecurity: Agricultural productivity in rural areas is often hampered by unreliable access to water, droughts and dependent on rainfed, leading to poor crop yields and seasonal food shortages. With our solar-powered irrigation systems, we aim to enable year-round farming, increasing food security and supporting local economies. By providing communities with access to water for agricultural use, we help increase crop yields, promote sustainable farming practices, and ensure a consistent food supply for families.
-
Rural Poverty: Rural communities in Zambia and other parts of Africa face high levels of poverty of upto 82%, often exacerbated by the lack of infrastructure and economic opportunities. By providing solar-powered water solutions, we empower communities to develop productive livelihoods, enhance economic activity through agricultural systems, and create income-generating opportunities. Our goal is to foster socio-economic development by providing water for both domestic use and agricultural production, which boosts local economies and supports small-scale farmers.
-
Environmental Sustainability: Traditional water extraction methods, such as manual pumping or reliance on non-renewable energy sources, can contribute to environmental degradation and resource depletion. Africa Access Water addresses this by using solar-powered water systems, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting the transition to clean, renewable energy. Additionally, we promote sustainable agricultural practices that improve land productivity while protecting the environment.
-
Gender Inequality and Social Inclusion: In many rural communities, women and girls are responsible for fetching water, often spending several hours each day on this task. This reduces their opportunities for education, economic participation, and personal development. By providing communities with accessible water infrastructure, Africa Access Water aims to reduce the time spent on water collection, allowing women and girls more time for education, work, and community leadership. Our projects also prioritize community involvement, ensuring that marginalized groups, including women and youth, have a voice in decision-making processes.
Through these efforts, Africa Access Water is addressing the social and environmental challenges of water scarcity, food insecurity, rural poverty, environmental degradation, and gender inequality, creating sustainable solutions that foster community development and resilience.
Africa Access Water was founded to address the critical issues of rural poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to water infrastructure that stifles economic growth in Africa’s underserved communities. By leveraging sustainable water solutions such as solar powered water infrastructure and systems, we aim to transform poor community communal land into productive hubs that drive rural economies. Our innovative model integrates solar powered water infrastructure development with agricultural systems, enabling year-round food production and income generation. This is evident from our pilot project in Zambia.
We prioritize community ownership, ensuring local engagement in the planning, implementation, and management of water resources. By utilizing climate-smart irrigation technologies, we not only boost crop yields but also mitigate the effects of erratic rainfall and droughts- we say climate change. This approach fosters food security, promotes self-reliance, and stimulates micro-enterprise development.
Africa Access Water stands out by creating sustainable ecosystems that transform rural communities into thriving economies while addressing the root causes of poverty.

BRANCH SECRETARY
RSPCA Crewe, Nantwich and District Branch
Do you have great communication and organisational skills that you could use to help a good cause? Are you passionate about animal welfare? Become our principal communications trustee and help us to maintain our branch affairs and improve local animals’ lives.
Overview of the role
As Branch Secretary, you would be in an essential volunteer trustee role. You would be a branch officer, acting as the principal communications trustee, managing and maintaining the administrative affairs of our branch. Using your expertise and skills, you will be able to influence how we care for our animals and drive forward the implementation of our key initiatives.
About the RSPCA
Founded in 1824, the RSPCA have been saving animals for almost 200 years and are proud to be the oldest welfare charity around. It has always been the RSPCA vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion, so our volunteers and employees work tirelessly to ensure that all animals can live free from pain and suffering.
Through numerous campaigns, the RSPCA seek to raise standards of care, and awareness of issues, affecting animals today. The RSPCA rely heavily on volunteers who play a significant role in enabling the Society to carry out this important animal welfare work every day.
The RSPCA Crewe, Nantwich and District Branch
The RSPCA Crewe, Nantwich and District Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the national Society of RSPCA.
The main activity of the branch is to rehabilitate and care for homeless dogs, cats and rabbits that come to us via the nationally operated RSPCA Inspectors and from the public, until we can find them loving, new homes. The branch does not have an animal or an admin centre. We house our animals with fosterers and in private boarding. While rehoming is the main activity of the branch, we also offer limited financial help to pet owners on means-tested benefits who are struggling to pay for neutering or some vet treatments.
Branch Secretary responsibilities
- Act as the primary contact point (primarily by email) for all branch communications with the national Society, the branch committee, and the branch membership.
- Attend branch meetings, ensure accurate minutes are taken, typed up and saved electronically, and distributed in accordance with branch rules and policies.
- Ensure all branch committee decisions are recorded as part of the minutes.
Role Description:
- Arrange the branch AGM including the compilation and distribution of the annual report, nominations, and agenda in line with the strict timetable laid down in the branch rules.
- Arrange the timely dissemination of the contents of all correspondence and literature received by the branch, ensuring availability to all committee members, and reply to all branch correspondence where necessary.
- Order and distribute RSPCA stationery, leaflets, posters and other fundraising and promotional material, in conjunction with the Branch Treasurer.
- Liaise with representatives of the national Society, such as the Branch Partnership Manager (BPM) and group Chief Inspector, and notify them of all branch meetings.
- Advise the BPM of all changes to branch facilities, services, and contact details.
- To act as co-signatory, if required, on branch bank accounts and ensure that proper financial procedures are always followed, in line with charity legislation.
- Submit recommendations for national Society awards to the BPM, in accordance with the wishes of the committee.
What we are looking for in a Branch Secretary
- Aged 18 or over.
- You must have been a member of the RSPCA and our branch for three months before you are eligible to be elected.
- You must meet the requirements of the Branch Trustee role. Please see the separate role description.
- You will need to be able to work well with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert, although commitment, common sense, and the ability to be objective are vital.
- Good communication and networking skills.
- Good IT skills are necessary as branch communication is primarily by email, documents need to be typed and saved electronically, and we operate a Google-based filing system. Ability to deal with general public, local businesses and other relevant organisations.
- Reliable.
- Very organised.
- Able to maintain confidentiality.
- Sufficient time to give to this important role. As a minimum, you will be expected to attend the monthly committee meeting (usually face-to-face on a weekday evening, lasting 2 – 3 hours) to discuss the governance and management of the branch and its activities. In addition, there is likely to be a further 4 - 6 hours weekly time commitment needed to complete tasks between committee meetings.
- Honesty, integrity and a commitment to the aims of the RSPCA and the work of the Branch. What we can offer you as a Branch Secretary
- Once you have engaged with the trustee training course, you will receive an induction and training on the requirements of the Branch Secretary role.
- The ongoing support of fellow branch trustees and officers and the BPM.
- The opportunity to attend relevant training in trusteeship provided by the RSPCA.
- The satisfaction of knowing that you are making a huge difference to the welfare of the local animals.
- An opportunity to meet like-minded people and make new friends.
- Develop new skills and experience that can enhance your CV and self-confidence.
Practical considerations
- As part of your application you will need to provide contact details for two referees.
- Branch officers are elected for a 12-month term each year.
- The Branch Secretary role requires a serious commitment of time and energy.
Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. This role can mostly be done from home, but we would like in-person attendance at our 6 weekly trustee meeting which currently takes place on a Thursday evening.
Our voluntary roles are subject to an informal interview and trial period. We will ask you to provide contact details for two referees, and dependent on the position, you may need to sign an agreement and undergo specific training before starting the role.

What do you need to become our Salesforce Developer?
Essential:
- A Salesforce Developer Qualification
- 3+ years of previous development experience with Salesforce.
- Proved experience with NPSP 2+ years. (Unfortunately, we won’t accept applications from volunteers who are not experienced with the NPSP version of Salesforce – NPSP – not Nonprofit Cloud)
- 2 professional references from previous Salesforce development work which we can contact (before an offer is made).
- Strong understanding of Salesforce best practices.
- Highly skilled in developing dashboards for various reporting styles.
- Experience using Salesforce for Fundraising.
- Strong understanding of relational databases.
- Proven success with multiple Salesforce. com integration projects.
- Experience developing customer-facing interfaces.
- Understanding of the complete agile software development cycle, good processes and tools required to achieve great results.
- Able to work in a team, custom the environment for the Team’s needs and produce quality output.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with the team.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of fundraising structure.
Location:
Can be performed fully remotely, but you are welcome to visit and work with the Team from our office in Brixton, London.
Commitment:
You will be involved in the implementation and development of our NPSP platform in collaboration with our Central Operations Manager, who possesses some experience in Salesforce administration and will oversee the SF Project. As we have not commenced any work on the platform, the individual will engage with the initial setup and guide it through to completion.
We seek an individual who can commit their time to this project from inception to completion. Therefore, we kindly request that only those with sufficient availability to see the project through to its conclusion apply, as we prefer not to change developers during the implementation phase.
Additionally, it is crucial that the selected candidate is able to dedicate time to provide the team with brief training sessions following deployment. This will ensure that all team members comprehend the platform's functionality and are able to accurately input the necessary data.
Our objective is to utilise the platform for fundraising initiatives and marketing campaigns, with fundraising management being our primary focus. However, there is potential for the platform to also facilitate volunteer management, a decision that will be made at a later time. Consequently, it is highly beneficial for the individual to possess knowledge of the fundraising framework of charitable organisations; nonetheless, we are prepared to provide training in this area if needed.
This is a great chance for anyone eager to gain experience in leading SF projects, enhance their CV, or simply use their skills to assist charities and contribute to our mission of improving lives.
Your support will be incredibly valuable to us, significantly enhancing our system and bolstering our efforts as a small charity, and you will be embraced as a vital member of our team.
Period:
The estimated time commitment is between 4 to 5 hours per week; however, we are willing to accommodate your schedule to find mutually agreeable hours. We kindly request that you submit your application only if you can commit to a minimum of 4 hours of work each week and remain engaged until the implementation and training phases are completed. Additionally, we regret to inform you that we cannot accept applications from individuals who do not possess at least 2 years of experience with Salesforce NPSP.
Given the nature of the sensitive data we handle, we will only consider applications from qualified Salesforce Developers who can provide two professional references from prior work involving Salesforce.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
