This position is open to anyone with a keen interest in Friends of the Earth and our local campaigns in the borough of Camden. We are looking for people interested in environmental and sustainability issues and environmental justice in the Camden community who enjoy organising and running campaigns. We’re open to new ideas for campaigns so you’re free to be as creative as you’d like!

Duties:

The campaign coordinators will help with:

• Researching potential campaign ideas

• Organising & running campaigns

• Collaborating with event coordinators and social media managers to plan and advertise ongoing campaigns

• Stay up-to-date with ongoing Friends Of The Earth campaigns

Desired attributes: 

• Experience with organising and running campaigns

• Passion for the campaigning group’s mission and a commitment to communicating the impact of the charity's work 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Advocacy & Partnerships – Collaborate with like-minded organisations to strengthen campaign impact.
• Event Coordination – Assist in organising online and in-person advocacy events, workshops, and awareness campaigns.
• Monitoring & Reporting – Track campaign success, measure engagement, and recommend improvements.

Skills & Experience

Citizens Advice Merton and Lambeth is a local charity dedicated to providing information, support and advice to individuals and families who live, work or study in Merton or Lambeth. We also work to raise awareness and understanding of the challenging issues affecting our clients and communities.

The Research and Campaigns volunteer will support CAML in its aims by researching and gathering information and evidence from our advisers on key issues adversely affecting residents in the boroughs of Merton and Lambeth, in order to make a positive difference to their lives through local and national campaigns.

 Aim of this role

Raise awareness of Research and Campaigns

- Keep up-to-date with trends of the concerns affecting clients locally as well as areas identified by national Citizens Advice, and raise call for evidence

- Researching and gathering quality information on key issues affecting local residents

- Prepare and provide letters, reports and content for advisers, Trustees, MPs, councillors, national funders and stakeholders on the work of the organisation and the impact of funded services

- Ensure all volunteers/staff are aware of the purpose of Research and Campaigns and how to write evidence forms

- Producing useful, appealing and easily accessible campaign materials and publications for informational purposes.

- Campaigning on a local and national level

- Feeding back to assessors and advisers on the results of their work and provide them with assistance in completing evidence forms.

- Understand how evidence from the experience of clients is used to promote change in policy and practice

- Ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion are promoted in our R&C work

Locations

This role is based in our Mitcham with some occasional traveling to our other offices in Morden and Kennington. All three offices are well-connected to public transport, and the office in Mitcham has a car park.

What we are looking for

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are essential

- Understanding of the importance of Research and Campaigns work in identifying key current social issues, and their potential impact on clients

- The ability to build and maintain professional relationships and contribute constructively as part of the R&C team, as well as wider CAML team

- The ability to give feedback clearly and sensitively

- Good report-writing skills with the ability to condense important information and explain to a range of audiences. Able to research, analyse and explain complex information

- You will have good organisational and time management skills with the ability to work towards set deadlines. Ability to work on own initiative, within given guidelines

- Confidence in using a range of IT software to research and analyse data

- Satisfactory references are required before joining the charity

We are looking for volunteers who are able come in our office for at least one day per week.

Our partner is an international non-profit that contributes to the protection of human rights defenders throughout the world, providing them with tools to manage their own security in the face of risks, threats and attacks.

They are seeking a Treasurer, with previous Board level experience in an international or regional organisation, to oversee all aspects of their finances and to keep their International Board up to speed on the financial health of the organisation so that they can make better decisions.

The Treasurer will be part of a multi-national and diverse group of experts who collectively work towards the improvement of the protection of human rights defenders throughout the world. The postholder will guide and advise the International Board in the approval and review of annual budgets, accounts, financial statements, and advise them on the financial implications of their decisions. The Treasurer will also provide strategic advice to support the Management Team and the Head of Finance and Administration.

The International Board meets 4-6 times per year, in online/ hybrid meetings lasting four hours (two hours over two days), typically on Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday afternoons. There will also be regular meetings with the Head of Finance and Administration as required.

About us: 

The Refugee and Migrant Forum of Essex and London (RAMFEL) is one of the largest immigration and asylum advice charities in the UK, supporting refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants to access justice. An OISC level 3 accredited organisation, we represent clients at all stages of the immigration and asylum process, up to and including the Upper Tribunal of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber.

We also actively campaign for a fairer and more humane immigration system. RAMFEL caseworkers therefore have the opportunity to work on systemic and strategic challenges and support broader advocacy work.

We particularly welcome and encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic individuals, and those who are migrants or refugees, and who have lived experience of the impact of UK immigration policy and/or of rough sleeping. This includes individuals with direct experience or experience gained through supporting family members with the challenges posed by immigration and asylum practices- those who have been or could have been clients of RAMFEL.

Purpose of the role: 

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that the Refugee and Migrant Forum of Essex and London (RAMFEL) achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that RAMFEL has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the CEO and senior management to enable us to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.

Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.

Duties:

•  Support and provide advice on RAMFEL’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
• Review and approve organisation strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their effective and efficient implementation.
• Oversee RAMFEL’s financial plans, budgets, and statements, and monitor and evaluate progress
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
• Provide support and challenge to RAMFEL’s management team in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
• Keep abreast of changes in RAMFEL’s operating environment.
• Contribute to regular reviews of RAMFEL’s own governance.
• Contribute to the broader promotion of RAMFEL’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

What we are looking for

We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. We are furthermore particularly looking for those who can contribute one or more of the following:

• Migrants or refugees, who have lived experience of the impact of immigration policy and practice.
• Expertise in RAMFEL’s core service delivery, especially regarding advice or immigration
• Experience of campaigning and/or external communications
• Organisational and administrative skills

Previous governance experience is desirable but not essential and we will provide a full induction to the organisation and the workings of the board.

Personal skills and qualities

• Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
• Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
• Enthusiasm for our vision and mission.

Why join us? We exist to end the abuse of animals raised for food. We work specifically on corporate focused campaigns demanding better welfare practices for chickens. The actions and events you organise will help to open the eyes of the general public to the truth of factory farming, and add vital pressure onto our corporate targets, ultimately resulting in reducing animal suffering.

As a Grassroots Organiser, you will be changing animal lives by:

• Organising events/actions in your local area including social meet-ups, peaceful protests, leafleting and public outreach (roughly 1 event every 6-8 weeks is ideal where possible). All materials are provided and relevant expenses paid.

• Promote your events/actions and encourage others to join you, bringing people together for the animals to create change

• Joining us at other in-person events/actions including peaceful protests organised by staff and other volunteers

• Get involved in campaign actions remotely, such as writing emails, letters, social media actions and more

• Attend online events within the volunteer community

The events and actions you organise don't need to be big, 2 or 3 people getting out there for the animals will make all the difference and we have an existing community of volunteers to tap into.

Perfect for those interested in gaining firsthand experience in campaigning or volunteer management, or just interested in creating direct change for animals. If you’re excited by the prospect of speaking to the public and taking the lead to organise local actions, all while making a genuine difference to animals, this is the role for you.

You will be working directly with THL UK staff members who will steward and support you throughout your time with us, including a full onboarding process to get you started. We'll give you everything you need, no prior experience needed.

There is no set time commitment for this role, you can get involved at a time that works for you, but we ask that you organise at least 1 event every 6-8 weeks where possible. It takes around 4-6 hours to deliver an event (including planning and delivery). Whether you're a student, retired, working full time, or somewhere in between - we would love to welcome you.
