We're a registered charity on a mission to improve the way that credit is provided and create better support and solutions for people who are struggling with debt. We conduct high quality research and test out innovative solutions. We're now seeking an External Affairs Lead to ensure we achieve maximum impact.
Working with our Chief Executive, you'll be responsible for developing and implementing our stakeholder engagement strategy and will lead our external communications and engagement, including with respect to Parliamentarians, regulators, funders, and the media.
This a key position in our small but developing organisation, and the role requires a deep commitment to our mission and values. The successful applicant will have a wide range of skills and experience, including with respect to stakeholder engagement, marketing and communications, effective team working and project management.
Job Description
Salary Range: £38,000 to £45,000.
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week. Consideration will be given to four day working and other flexible arrangements.
Pension: Company pension scheme with NEST, with employer contributions at 6% of salary.
Term: Fixed for 12 months, with an intention to extend.
Reporting to: Chief Executive.
Location: Remote, but with a requirement to attend physical team planning meetings four times per year in locations around the UK (expenses covered).

Duties and Responsibilities

Helping to develop our policy positions and approaches, including by preparing draft papers on public policy issues.

Designing and implementing communications and policy campaigns, developed in conjunction with other members of CfRC’s staff team.

Supporting launches of CfRC publications by drafting and distributing media releases, utilising social media, and creating clear engagement plans, identifying which stakeholders to engage with and how that can best be achieved.

Drafting briefings, speaking points and speeches concerning CfRC positions for internal/external stakeholders.

Representing CfRC in the media and at key external meetings including in Westminster.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
University Degree (2:1 or above), or equivalent experience, in a relevant field such as Public Policy, Political Science, or wider social sciences (Essential).
Experience of stakeholder management: you have experience of building a stakeholder network and maintaining this. You will be able to design tailored and creative plans of how to best liaise with stakeholders and promote CfRC and its objectives (Essential).
Experience of running media (including social media) campaigns (Essential).
Experience of working with stakeholders, including Parliamentarians and Government, with respect to poverty/ low-income issues (Desirable).
Skills
Demonstrated project management skills: able to develop a plan, drive forward progress with stakeholders, incorporating their feedback, and ensuring plans remain on track (Essential).
Initiative and Collaborative: you are able to work on your own initiative and also collaborate effectively with others as part of a team (Essential).

About The Role

What will my main duties be?
With the support of the Assistant Director of Operations:
Volunteer recruitment:
- To develop a volunteer recruitment plan to meet programme and organisational need; and to work closely with the corporate partnerships team and programme and regional managers to implement the recruitment plan, for example working with the Heads of Mentoring to implement a university student recruitment plan for the Mentoring programme
- To deliver guidance and training to support local IntoUniversity centres to implement the recruitment plan, including working with universities and community organisations

Volunteer onboarding
- To use the charity’s Salesforce database to manage the volunteer pipeline - from application, to selection and training, to centre allocation
- To manage the process of onboarding steps including application form, training, Safer Recruitment checks, and support local IntoUniversity centres to implement the onboarding process consistently
- To work with the programmes and delivery team to ensure efficient induction takes place and to ensure staff are recording all volunteering activity on Salesforce
Volunteer training
- To implement a high-quality volunteer training programme for regular volunteer roles, including: organisation of a training schedule and staffing; facilitation of training (alongside delivery staff); providing guidance and training to staff to deliver volunteer training; reviewing training resources and facilitation

- To provide support, resources, and training to centre staff and programme managers to ensure quality volunteer management throughout the volunteer lifecycle

We are looking for an experienced manager who understands and is passionate about community and volunteer-led fundraising, who keeps the supporter at the heart of what they do and is focused on delivering results. Working alongside dedicated colleagues, this is the perfect role for someone looking to put their experience of leading a community fundraising programme to use and help us grow our regional audience. Role purpose
As Digital Communications Manager, you will be using digital communication channels to support the engagement of our community of supporters, partners, patients, families and staff in the work of the charity and helping realise our shared ambition with the Trust to be national leaders in the delivery of patient care and health innovation. Reporting to the Head of Communications and Marketing, the Digital Communications Manager will be proactive in shaping and managing the charity’s digital presence (including the website), with a strong focus on tracking and using data. The Digital Communications Manager will be part of a collaborative and creative team responsible for the development and delivery of the CW+ Communications and Marketing strategy, including on- and offline communications, PR and media, donor stewardship and marketing collateral, and events support.
Key responsibilities
- Working with the Head of Communications and Marketing to ensure effective, data-driven use of CW+ digital channels (website and social media) in support of marketing, communications and fundraising plans and annual social media plan.
- Working closely with the Public Fundraising Manager to ensure that the charity’s fundraising activities are being effectively supported and promoted across all channels.
- Working closely with the Fundraising Team on the development of fundraising campaigns and leading on the use of paid socials (including budget management and reporting).
- Leading on using digital tracking, analysis and insights to inform and adapt digital content and strategy as the charity’s strategic needs evolve.
- Providing expert ownership of Mailchimp (or other mailing platforms as required) and ensuring PECR/GDPR compliance.
- Strategic oversight and day-to-day management of the CW+ website and social media channels, including creating accurate content and assets that conform to the CW+ style and brand guidelines.
- Providing the main point of contact with external developers, designers and suppliers where necessary.
- Leading on website accessibility, updating and informing colleagues as necessary.
- Supporting the delivery of CW+ events.
- Writing engaging, tailored copy for a variety of audiences.
- Commissioning and creating content for on- and offline channels.
- Proofreading and editing copy, ensuring that it adheres to the CW+ tone of voice and style guidelines.

Essential skills and experience
- Communications and content creation experience across a wide range of channels including digital and print.
- Demonstrable experience of tracking and analysing data in support of effective marketing and communications activities in line with strategic objectives.

- Extensive experience of using digital marketing email platforms.
- Understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and SEO.
- Understanding of current PECR and GDPR guidelines.
