The Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy is an established charity that aims to teach, research and
provide the highest possible standards of osteopathic treatment for babies and children up to 18
years, regardless of a family’s ability to pay. Established in 1991, the organisation is now at a key point
in its development and seeks new Trustees to help forge ahead.

As a member of the Board of Trustees you will be responsible for the overall direction, vision and
strategy of the Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy and its clinical arm, the Osteopathic Centre for
Children. We are looking for candidates who can bring ideas, experience and good judgement to help
set our objectives, as well as an ability and enthusiasm to help the organisation take on future
challenges.

We are looking to appoint individuals who share our values and would like to involve themselves in
the organisation, playing a key role in our successes.

We would particularly like to hear from:
· People with skills or experience in law and charity governance
· People with experience in income generation, business development, fundraising and marketing

Renumeration & Time Commitment
This role is voluntary and unpaid but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The Board of Trustees
meets four times per year. In addition, Board Meetings, other contact – usually electronic or by
telephone – will be necessary.

About Been There:

 

Been There is a small (but growing!) charity in the form of an app that connects people aged 18 and over with a vetted and trained mentor to help with any body image issues they may be experiencing. This gives them the opportunity to speak to someone who has ‘Been There’ themselves. Our Mentors are here to support, empower and, most importantly, listen.

About the role:

 

If you are an experienced fundraiser, we need your help! Been There’s Board of Trustees share ultimate responsibility for governing the charity and directing how it is managed and run. As a member of the Board, you will help set the strategic aims, objectives and direction of the charity. The skills and knowledge you bring will enhance the Board and support Been There in achieving its charitable objectives

 

As a Fundraising Trustee, you will play a key role within our charity in assisting the Board to develop an ambitious fundraising strategy and help us to further improve the effectiveness of our income generation so we can maximise the number of service users we can provide support to. You will help to ensure our fundraising is of the highest standard and that we are meeting our fundraising objectives as well as complying with our legal duties. Alongside relevant experience, you will also possess an ability to work to tight deadlines, prioritising multiple tasks, and will be a natural team player with excellent written and spoken English.

Board meetings are held every other month for 2 hours (two via Zoom and one per quarter in Kingston-Upon-Thames). If required, this role can be completely remote and you can attend the quarterly meeting over video call.

 

Role Summary:

 

· To assist the Board of Trustees to develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy for Been There

· To guide, support, and challenge the Communications Manager and fundraising volunteers.

· To report to the Trustees on a regular basis, giving an update on fundraising achievements, plans, and progress.

· To ensure fundraising is of the highest standard and priority within a robust governance framework that meets all relevant legislation.

Main Responsibilities:

 

· Oversee fundraising to make sure it is carried out in legal, honest, and accountable ways.

· Strategically assess where fundraising fits into the overall charity strategy, and work with the Trustees to ensure effective income generation is being achieved.

· Contributing knowledge of fundraising techniques, best practice, and strategies.

· Assessing risks in new fundraising directions, alerting the Board of Trustees in a timely manner, as and when necessary, of key concerns.

· To report to the Board at a strategic level on the successes and challenges of the fundraising strategy.

· To help the charity further develop its fundraising capabilities through effective people and processes.

· On an ad hoc basis, to work with the Chair of Trustees and the Communications Manager, outside of the Trustee meetings, to support and develop the fundraising strategy.

Person Specification:

 

· To have substantial background as a senior charity fundraiser with a sound understanding and experience of charity fundraising at strategic and operational levels.

· A good understanding of fundraising within a small charity and the challenges facing small charities.

· Experience of diverse income generation practices.

· Sound, independent judgement and ability to think creatively.

· Ability to give constructive feedback and provide challenge.

· Experience in the charitable or voluntary sector.

· An ability to work to tight deadlines, ensuring prioritisation of multiple tasks.

Overview

Charity Purpose

• Raise funds for research into the cause, prevention and management of dementia.
• Allocate funding to university research project meeting the highest academics standards.

Objective

• Holds the Executive team and the Board to account to:
  - remain focussed solely on the BRACE stated purpose
  - remain compliant with all English and Welsh laws and the regulations of the Charity Commission.
• Support the Chief Executive in ensuring both the Board members and Executive team work closely together to achieve the agreed strategic objectives.
• Act (in partnership with the Chief Executive) as an ambassador and the public face of BRACE.

Charity Structure

• BRACE the charity has a sole Trustee “BRACE Trustee Limited”. All members of the Board are Directors of BRACE Trustee Limited and act as Trustees of BRACE. There are up to 15 directors of BRACE Trustee Limited who for reasons of clarity are called Trustees.
• The Chair and Trustees are usually appointed for a fixed term of 4 years which can be renewed once, enabling Trustees to serve for a maximum continuous term of 8 years.

Meetings

• Board meetings are held 4 times a year plus 1 awayday. Each meeting is +/- 4 hours.
• There are currently 3 sub-committees of the Board (Scientific Advisory Committee [SAC], Finance and HR). The 3 sub-committees meet no more than one month before the board meetings either in person or on Zoom. SAC reviews applications for grants and makes recommendations to the Board for approval.
• Board Meetings are generally held in person in the Bristol area, online or hybrid meetings are not encouraged but can be facilitated.

Together we will defeat dementia.

Settle is a charity that supports young adults as they leave the care system and move into their first home. We provide intensive one-to-one support addressing practical life skills, sustaining a tenancy and managing emotional wellbeing. Our preventative approach to homelessness helps care-experienced young people to make long-lasting changes and thrive.

We are looking for someone to join our Board of Trustees as our Trustee Safeguarding Lead. This will be someone that is excited and committed to ensuring we have a strong practice of safeguarding across the organisation and can support the Board, DSL and CEO to ensure we have a healthy and reflective safeguarding culture, bringing their own experience to help Settle improve over time.

The Safeguarding Lead will work closely with our DSL to be satisfied that risk is being managed and policies are being followed around this area of high risk. Safeguarding, in fact, is well managed at Settle but the Lead Trustee still needs to maintain oversight to keep abreast of any changes in young people’s needs or organisational requirements as we grow.

This role would support with the following:

• Ensuring the Charity has sound safeguarding policies and robust safeguarding management and reporting systems in place
• Understanding and advising on the safeguarding implications of the Charity’s strategic plan and of any projects and activities it may undertake
• Liaising with and supporting our Designated Safeguarding Lead
• Providing updates to the board; keeping the Board informed about its safeguarding duties and responsibilities

Oxfordshire Breastfeeding Support (OBS) is a small charity (a charitable incorporated organisation or CIO) providing free direct breastfeeding support to the families of Oxfordshire - via a mixture of virtual one to one appointments, in-person sessions, Zoom groups, a private Facebook group, antenatal workshops and work targeted at groups that are under-represented. Although founded as an independent charity in 2018, OBS’s work is a continuation of 12 years of breastfeeding support under the Baby Café umbrella. OBS is well known and respected in the community, with strong and valuable relationships with other service providers in the NHS, Local Authority and voluntary sectors. OBS is seeking to recruit a trustee to act as treasurer of trustees for a period of 2-3 years. In addition to the responsibilities of a general trustee, treasurer of the trustees will:

• Provide financial leadership to the board of trustees, offering valuable insights and recommendations on financial planning, budgeting, and investment decisions.

• Oversee the development and implementation of the charity's financial policies, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices.

• Prepare and present financial reports at board meetings, providing clear and concise updates on the charity's financial performance and projections. This would include preparing an annual budget and monthly management accounts.

• Support the fundraising team in financial planning for campaigns and initiatives, aligning financial resources with strategic objectives. This would also include assisting in the preparation of the financial information for grant applications and assisting with preparing reports at the end of the grant period to show compliance with financial restrictions of any grants

• Keep abreast of financial trends, legal requirements, and best practices in the charity sector, sharing relevant insights with the board and staff

Trustee Role Description:
Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that Age UK Surrey achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Age UK Surrey has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision:

Help us support families to get the right education for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

We are recruiting voluntary positions to join our Board of Trustees. 

Who we are

We are IPSEA, a national charity that works to ensure that children and young people with SEND receive the educational support they are legally entitled to. Since IPSEA was formed in 1983, we have helped to improve the education experience of thousands of children and young people with all kinds of SEND. We do this by providing free and independent legal advice and casework support, undertaking policy work and delivering training on the SEND law framework. 

The impact of our work can be life-changing. If the needs of children and young people with SEND are properly understood as a result of a thorough assessment, if the necessary provision is put in place to support them, and if that support is delivered in a suitable school, college or other setting, they are significantly less likely to experience multiple fixed term and/or permanent exclusions, end up out of education for long periods, experience mental health problems, end up “NEET” (not in Education, Employment or Training) or enter the criminal justice system.

Purpose of the role

· Engage in regular contact with the Chief Executive and other key members of the Executive Team to maintain oversight of the Charity’s affairs.

Terms of the role

Tenure is reviewed / renewed on a 3 year basis.

For guidance, the Chair of the Board is expected to:

· Attend 10 - 15 meetings per year, comprising 4 Board meetings (quarterly), 1 Board awayday, plus optional/potential sub-committee and/or steering group meetings (quarterly) dependent on skills and interest.

· Represent the organisation at periodic events run by, or in partnership with, the Charity.

· Meetings are generally held in person at The Brain Charity Centre in Liverpool. Our Centre is fully accessible with parking available on site.

Trustees are not paid for carrying out their duties on behalf of Charity; it is a voluntary role. They can however claim reasonable travel expenses in line with our Volunteer Expense Policy.

The Organisation:

Sir Henry Irving founded the Fund in 1882 with a number of other actors and stage managers. Over 140 years, Presidents have included Sir John Gielgud, Sir Lawrence Olivier and Dame Penelope Keith. We are thrilled that our Royal Patron has recently been confirmed as King Charles III.

The ABF is a membership charity with over 600 members who are from the acting or stage management fraternity. Members select up to 12 trustees from within the membership to govern and take responsibility for the ABF’s management and administration. Those trustees can appoint up to four additional non-member trustees on the basis of skills and experience they can bring to the charity.

The Board of Trustees delegates authority to a number of sub committees, including Grants & Services, Finance & Operations, and Marketing & Engagement. We ask trustees to join one of these committees.

For over 140 years, the Actors' Benevolent Fund has supported actors and stage managers experiencing hardship due to injury, illness or old age. To date this support has consisted of financial grants and benefits advice, as well as a listening ear. This support is delivered by a small staff team at Adam Street just off The Strand in London.

The charity world has changed significantly in recent years. Society rightly expects charities to deliver their purposes effectively for public benefit. The ABF has been going through a process of reform to maximise the help it delivers and to ensure it is the most effective and impactful steward of its resources.
The charity’s first ever CEO was appointed last summer, and a new Board of Trustees was elected and appointed early 2024 to take the charity forward into the future with a bold new ambition to increase impact.

The Role:

This is an exciting time to be joining the Board of Trustees of the Actors’ Benevolent Fund. The charity has been on a journey of transformation, with a new Board and strategy in place, and we are looking for two additional trustees to join us on this journey. These are incredibly challenging times for the industry, with an increased cost of living combined with a scarcity of funding for the Arts, resulting in fewer opportunities for actors, actresses and stage managers, and research evidencing mental health problems. There is a growing need to respond to the changes within our society and profession, and we are seeking individuals with the passion to join an inspirational team to make meaningful and sustainable change to our community. 

We are currently looking for two non-member trustees, each with knowledge and experience in one of the following two areas:
•  Investment management
•  Strategic marketing and / or brand awareness

Person Specification:

Essential: 
•  Demonstrate a passion and commitment to the charity and our vision for its future strategic direction
•  Professional knowledge and experience in one of the following subject areas:

•  Understanding of and commitment to the role and responsibilities of being a charity trustee

National Coal Mining Museum for England is looking for Trustees with expertise in the areas of digital and new media, large scale capital projects, advocacy and influencing  and coal mining as we embark on the next exciting part of our journey to deliver a fresh new vision over the next 10 years. 

We are here to ensure that a vitally important part of our national heritage is protected and sustained for future generations.
