About you

We are looking for a dynamic, strategic leader with a proven track record in the charity sector. Ideal candidates will have:

• Significant leadership experience (as a CEO, Director, or senior leader within a charity or third sector organisation).

Your responsibilities

1. Campaigns (50% of time)

· Develop strategic campaign goals and deliver inclusive, impactful campaigns, rooted in lived experience, in collaboration with colleagues and Transport for All members

· Use a range of techniques, including e-campaigning, direct action, and events, to engage and mobilise members and alliies

· Lead on using an online campaigning tool (e.g. Action Network), supporting and growing our campaigning members, while ensuring that accessible, offline actions are given equal weighting

· Work closely with the Communications and Engagement team to ensure campaign content is timely, accessible, and effective

· Build partnerships with other Disabled People’s Organisations and charities to amplify campaign efforts

· Monitor and report on campaign impact and key performance indicators (KPIs)

· Ensure campaigns reflect Transport for All’s values and centre disabled people’s lived experiences

2. Public Affairs (40% of time)

· Communicate Transport for All’s policy positions to MPs, civil servants, mayors, local authorities, and other key stakeholders

· Build and maintain relationships with political stakeholders, including elected officials and sector partners

· Represent Transport for All at external meetings, conferences, and events

· Monitor and respond to political developments, identifying timely opportunities for influence

· Collaborate with the Policy and Public Affairs Officer to ensure consistent and coordinated external messaging

3. Cross team working (10% of time)

· Work closely with the Policy and Public Affairs Officer to align public affairs and campaign activity with our co-designed policy positions

· Contribute to internal reporting, including updates for funders and the board

We're recruiting for someone to lead our public engagement work on climate and nature and ensure that the public are involved in critical decisions on how to reach net zero and protect the future of nature and land in the UK. 

Involve has a commitment to use our skills, time and experience to address big challenges. Climate change is one of those big challenges and is a policy area where citizen engagement on both principles and practice is vital.  It, and Net Zero in particular, risk becoming a polarised and politicised issue where there is little room for considered, inclusive decision making. 

This exciting role will lead and coordinate our work with institutions, and others, to find a way through difficult issues like low emission zones, the energy transition, industrialisation of green spaces and other challenges in a way that centres the people who are impacted, with a social justice and equity lens. This role will primarily sit within our Innovation and Practice (I&P) function - focused on practical delivery of public engagement such as citizen assemblies, juries and other deliberative processes. The successful candidate will lead several of our major climate change and nature projects, including the UKRI Net Zero Living project - working with 28 Councils to embed meaningful public participation in their route to net zero. You will also contribute to the training, standards setting and advocacy work that Involve does - maintaining and growing our reputation in climate and environment networks and communicating the contribution we can make and impact that we are having.

We have a significant track record in public deliberation on climate change. We ran the first Climate Assembly in the UK and have since delivered many projects in this area including the People’s Plan for Nature. We have developed a reputation for best practice public dialogue, deliberation and capacity building. Job purpose

This role sits in our Direct fundraising Team within the Individual Giving department. The key purpose of the job is to:

•  Support the Associate Head and Senior Fundraisers to continue to grow and develop face-to-face direct recruitment and telephone fundraising activity at the NSPCC.
• To work with Senior Fundraisers and Associate Head within the Direct fundraising team to deliver agreed campaigns in line with business requirements.
• Advocate and reinforce the team’s ethics and values across compliance, safeguarding, supporter experience and best practice fundraising.
• Enhance the supporter experience and protect the NSPCC’s reputation when working with professional fundraising agencies.
• Through mystery shopping, call listening and other activities, ensure all activity, by agency partners and relevant internal teams, is compliant with regulation, codes of practice and NSPCC policies.
• Monitor campaign performance and income, ensuring that campaign KPIs and metrics are reported accurately and consistently.
• Monitor expenditure, including financial processes such as raising POs, checking invoices and reporting against budgeted expenditure figures.
• Work with data, including checking data selections for telephone activity.
• Work effectively with other departments within Individual Giving, Communications and Fundraising Directorates and other functions within the NSPCC to maximise income for children. Also working with external agencies to deliver large scale campaigns.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. With the Associate Head of Direct Fundraising, agree and deliver face-to-face and telephone  direct fundraising activities in line with the Individual Supporters department’s annual business plan and budget to enable the NSPCC to plan its activity and services.
2. Work with the Associate Head to maximise the opportunities by which the fundraising activity can contribute to the NSPCC’s mission of fighting for every childhood over and above fundraising objectives.
3. Be responsible for the development of relationships and delivery of income from potential supporters engaged through face-to-face activity
4. Work with internal NSPCC support teams to set up new agencies and campaigns.
5. Keep up to date on best practice and developments within the charity sector generally and particularly changes to fundraising regulations, compliance and codes of practice relating to direct dialogue fundraising. Updating existing or creating new processes and working with agencies to implement changes in activity.
6. Work with internal compliance teams and external agencies to plan and implement a monitoring schedule in line with the most up to date codes of practice, guidance and regulations.  This should include regular mystery shopping and call listening.
7. To work with the Associate Head to maximise the opportunities by which the fundraising activity of the Direct Fundraising team can contribute to the NSPCC’s mission of ending cruelty to children over and above fundraising objectives.
8. To carry out research through a range of sources, including the Internet, Intranet, publications and other external contacts, including other charities, in order to obtain relevant information that can contribute to the fundraising activities of the Direct fundraising team.
9. To work cross-functionally to ensure that fundraising activities are managed and developed in a way that maximises income for the NSPCC.
10. To undertake specific fundraising projects and activities as necessary or as required to support the department’s fundraising as a whole.

• Drive online income generation through effective use of digital fundraising platforms, social media, and supporter journeys.

Partnership is fundamental to our way of working. We are second-tier organisation focusing on the continuous improvement of service models, sharing best practice and supporting specialist service providers to deliver. 

 We have three core strands of work: 

The Drive Project is our flagship intervention working with high-harm, high-risk and serial perpetrators of domestic abuse to prevent their abusive behaviour and protect victims. The Drive Project challenges perpetrators to change and works with partner agencies – like the police and social services – to disrupt abuse. It is currently being delivered in 9 police force areas. 

Restart is an innovative pilot project providing earlier intervention for families experiencing domestic abuse. It brings together domestic abuse services, children’s social care and housing teams to identify and respond to patterns of domestic abuse at an earlier stage. Restart is currently being delivered in five London Boroughs.  

The Drive National Systems Change programme works across the domestic abuse specialist sector, public sector partners and beyond to develop sustainable, national systems that respond to all perpetrators of domestic abuse.  We identify systemic gaps and build solutions that keep survivors safer by addressing those causing harm.

Background for the role

In April 2021 the Domestic Abuse Act received Royal Assent. The Act introduces a new civil Domestic Abuse Protection Notice (DAPN) to provide immediate protection following a domestic abuse incident, and a new civil Domestic Abuse Protection Order (DAPO) to provide flexible, longer-term protection for victims. DAPOs can impose both prohibitions and positive requirements on perpetrators. Positive requirements can be in the form of interventions aimed at reducing and managing risk, meeting the needs of an individual (for the factors that are not the causation of abuse but impact on risk e.g. mental ill health, substance misuse) and behaviour change interventions.

We were commissioned by the Home Office to design a triage model that will assess individuals for the suitability of these interventions, this triage model launched in November 2024 and will be tested and evaluated in order to prepare for national roll out in 2026.

 Purpose:   

The DAPO Service Manager will manage the operational, and strategic delivery of the DAPO team pilot working closely with the Practice and Development Lead and Programme Manager.

The postholder will have responsibility for managing all DAPO triage teams who are working locally and remotely in the DAPO pilot sites.

This role will require 

a) the effective line management of Triage Team Leaders (who in turn manage triage workers and IDVAs), in providing a high-quality frontline service triaging DAPO referrals for positive requirements

b) the development and maintenance of a multi-agency infra structure that actively engages with the triage team and the triage process 

c) working with the Practice and Development Lead and Programme Manager to ensure safe and effective delivery of the DAPO pilot triage process. 

d) support the development of the DAPO triage model through learning and analysis of the pilot delivery e.g. to initiate, develop, maintain and monitor multi-agency links through procedures and protocols, and to keep safety central to all services for perpetrators and victims of domestic abuse.

This is an opportunity to take on a new leadership position in a unique educational charity. As part of our succession planning, Number Champions is recruiting a CEO to take on all management of the charity and to help the board define and deliver its strategy. This will be our most senior staff position.

Background - Number Champions

We train volunteers to use games and other creative activities in primary schools in one-to-one sessions with children to help them gain confidence and skills in maths. This support helps put children on track to achieve their full potential in a world where numeracy is a vital building block. Over half the children we support are from disadvantaged backgrounds, which is where the need is greatest.

Founded in 2018, we have already helped over 1,500 children. We now have 115 volunteers running weekly sessions. This year they are helping 334 children in 38 partner schools across London, and we plan to continue to grow organically every year to support more children.

Our vision is not just that we grow in scale, but that through our example other organisations copy our model, and that eventually all primary school children will have access to volunteer support in maths.

CEO role

The CEO will be a new permanent role, reporting to our founder Chair and to the board of trustees. You will take on all aspects of managing our award-winning charity and drive the board process of setting and delivering strategy. This will include financial management of the charity and involvement in fundraising. This is in the context of our succession plan, whereby our Chair will hand over the executive responsibilities which he currently exercises on a pro bono basis. This is to allow us to recruit a new Chair within two years.

You will line manage the Head of Operations - our current senior employee, who manages our other two staff. The role will be part time for the equivalent of 3 days a week.

Location

You will work mainly remotely, although you will be expected to attend periodic meetings in London. We therefore require candidates to live within commuting distance of Central London, giving maximum flexibility for both the employee and the charity.

Candidates must be able to show previous success as a member of the Senior Leadership Team of a charity. You should be a collaborative worker able to build productive working relationships with people throughout the charity and beyond.
